    Cloris Leachman was one of a kind and so multi-talented. I don't know how anyone could work with her without cracking up every time she opened her mouth. A true scene stealer. RIP Cloris, you will be missed.

    Showed this in class as a fodder for them to understand why the French revolution began. Some factual truths, lots of humor. Class understood better.

    For Mel to hire Cloris Leachman in some movies was signficiant. Leachman worked on show which saw her play the landlady to a fornicating Mary Tyler Moore character which differed from Mel's so-called "best friend" Carl Reiner's Moore character which was a traditional housewife. In the 1970s, its like she was revolutionary James L. Brooks' way of connecting with Mel Brooks. RIP Cloris Leachman

    • @danielechebarria8733
      @danielechebarria8733 2 роки тому

      I don't think using the word "fornicating" when referencing Mary Tyler Moore is accurate at all. It makes it seem like the character was a whore/slut. Did she date? Absolutely. She was a single woman out on her own. The MTM show was a show about women's independence and liberation. It was about a woman living and working in a "man's world" and making a name for herself. "You're gonna make it after all." But yes, Chloris Leachman was exceptional in it as were the supporting cast.

    • @minewheaties5029
      @minewheaties5029 2 роки тому

      @@danielechebarria8733 Oh no. You even see casing for birth control pills at times. It was not only women's liberation, but also cultural revolution. It was clearly intended to go against Catholic decency, something which was also never challenged when she was with the family-friendly Dick Van Dyke Show. Not to invoke religion, but being set in the city that was also Billy Graham's business home was more revolutionary than working with hypocritical atheist Carl Reiner. I think Reiner's so-called "best friend" Mel Brooks was even willing to consider the impact of the James L. Brooks-made Mary Tyler Moore when he let Cloris Leachman be in his movie Young Frankenstein when she was still playing Phyllis Lindstrom. I wish Mel would overpower censors like People For The American Way and acknowledge what even his Simpsons guest appearance all-but gave away. Norman Lear's not even been the same since he created that group. Both The Mary Tyler Moore Show and All In The Family where champions of the ideas of The Great Society and focused less on extreme, unneeded libertarianism for the privileged.
