Ok, the fact that the Obamas produced this is the most disturbing part, did the deep state show him the plans for destroying this country in this manner? Does he think it will happen, or is unfolding? We all know surely left and right that the cia/deep state has an agenda of its own, and is unaccountable to anyone, and has been. Manipulating the media, mind and agenda of the empire for 40 years. Maybe I've said too much...

At the end, Kevin Bacon told them to go to Thorne's bunker where Rose already was. In the car, G.H. confirmed to Clay they needed to go to that bunker. Amanda also saw the Thorne's residence and was going to find her daughter there before witnessing the explosion in the city. Rose heard her mother calling for her and was heading towards her mother before being distracted towards the bunker. So the movie gave us all the clues that they will all meet Rose in the bunker.

for me.. i liked the movie one thing i felt was really a real thing was george’s behavior to protect his daughter and his way of thinking. why did he let the family come back in the home and then they went back to the basement 😒 and then george left his daughter at the home by herself to go help another man’s family, any thing could have happened. i really appreciated when the neighbor Danny told basically said to him that he needs to be thinking of his self in this moment because would they really do the same for george if the roles was reversed?

Someone else made a comment that kinda explains it to me. He was already worried that this was the 3-step plan his client described to him - he just didn't say anything until he knew that's what it was. Given that he knew what the 3rd step was - that civil war and isolation was what was gonna kill them - he may have felt it was important to work with others now instead of it just being him and his daughter trying to survive on their own.
That's why he looked out for them in a way that never would've happened under normal circumstances. Because he pulled a gun on Danny to save Clay's son's life, their family is indebted to him. But also, now GH is indebted to Clay for preventing him from getting shot, and they're both indebted to Danny for the info about the bunker.
They managed to quickly build a little community because GH knew what was coming and acted on that info. I think he was more methodical than we're giving him credit for.

The only part I didn’t really like was the ending. I get it, that rose being kept in the dark meant that she wasn’t really in a rush to get anyone to the bunker and that she wanted to finish friends because it was the last bit of comfort she could get, but for it to just end there with no closure for the fates of the rest of the characters they built up didn’t make it satisfying at all.
Or maybe that was the point. Maybe it wanted us to care about all of these people enough for it to sit like this. Maybe the movie did this intentionally and I’ll give it that, but I still don’t really like it.

I am still reeling over this movie! So many people are upset with the ending but I figured the finale would end with unresolved drama. I think we have been brainwashed by Hollywood -or religion- to think there’s eventually a happy ending to every situation. We don’t want to accept reality that there won’t be a “happy ending” simply by us sitting around anticipating it to happen. We created this doom through our actions perpetually reinforcing ideas and beliefs.

The people were so myopic. George sees a watch in the sand dune, not the wreckage of aircraft all around. The daughter says “that boat is coming towards us”, everyone is like no, must be a dock around here when a look around the beach would show no dock. Constantly not seeing the bigger picture at all. Which makes the prepper’s statement “haven’t you been paying attention to what is going on?” all the more poignant. The answer is- either they haven’t or they just don’t want to see it until it is jammed in their face. Kind of like what is going on RIGHT NOW. I have seen the commentary that Amanda must be racist because she was suspicious of George initially- when he was caught out lying all the time. Even when he went to the neighbour- he lied about why he was there initially. Who wouldn’t be defensive about strange people demanding entry to the home you were renting. In the middle of the night. Obviously lying about why they were there. With little Miss Completely Obnoxious. Forget the basement. You’d want to make her sleep in the car for being so rude hahaha. I have liked this movie more post watching than I did at the time as it has been quite thought provoking.

You cant take the movie seriously. At the beginning it's reasonable to be weary, by the morning (after cyber attack mesages, emergency broadcasts, etc). They really should start getting their shit together. Instead, they waste valuable time, get lost, etc, etc.
For some reason, they don't warn the son (who is 16 so he should have at least some neurons to understand the situation) that there is a national emergency, and they should stay together
They started stockpiling water at the night of the second day, several hours after WITNESING FREAKING PLANES FALLING OUT THE SKY, AND DRONES SPREADING TERRORISM PAMPHLETS.
Even then, they smoke weed and play music instead of making inventory and hiding in the basement.
Then, the owner daughter complains about sleeping in the basement but it didnt seem like anybody forced anybody, the renters where sleeping all together (so at least one room in the upper floor is available), and in this situation I wouldnt be against sleeping all together in the same room.
George pulls out a gun against danny who is holding and aiming a shotgun towards them.
Danny is almost willing to kill his neighbour/friend over medicine when there are worse threats lurking (you dont know if a ground invasion is happening, you need all hands on deck, militia time). He is protecting his stock so it is understandable, but even then it's kinda exagerated.

Saw it last night. My initial impressions were that it was a very well made film, with excellent camera work, great performances from top notch actors, and a suspenseful, gripping story that kept my interest throughout 2.5 hour movie. Yet, something was missing and it had greater potential than the pay off.
My initial criticisms were that the characters were either dull, assholes, or both, and were behaving unrealistically dumb when it was very clear fairly early on that the country was under attack. They should be focused on gathering non perishable foods, clean water, shelter, keeping everyone together. And I get it that their behavior IS THE POINT. They're isolated by social media, etc, they're unprepared for something like this, but I found they're behavior over the top dumb.
Another critique is that the film was too on the nose at times with it's messages, instead of using subtlety.
But ultimately, I saw the movie last night and now the next day I can't stop thinking about it, which in any case is a success for a film.
I initially gave it a 6.9 out of 10, but I have a feeling that this film might grow on me, because as I said I still can't stop thinking about it.

Yeah feel the same pretty much. What's super thought provoking about the film is we know something like this could happen. It happened on 9/11 in a different capacity and it could happen today on more of a technological level. So the movie very much capitalized on the fact that this is not so much a "si-fi" concept but in fact a very real scenario that makes the movie so haunting. Do I believe something like this will happen? Not to the magnitude of the film but definitely on a smaller level which of course could still prove to be extremely destructive. The bottom line of the movie is we are super vulnerable and pretty much helpless. The line from Ethan Hawk's character when he was standing in front of the gun at the end summed up the movie for me. He said something like "I'm a useless man, I don't have navigation, and my phone doesn't work".

Overall I did like this film quite a bit, I give it a solid B+ to A-. One thing I did like was it did not dissolve into a “racial” contest, at first I thought it was going to have a WOKE explosion of the white family being total racists and the black family being smart and heroic. But NO it became much more nuanced even though there were some overtones of it but it went in a more realistic direction in my opinion. The film kind of keeps you guessing almost to the very end about what is going on and even then there’s some ambiguity. Julia Roberts character was played brilliantly I thought I mean I’ve seen people like that executives that are used to being catered to, and are used to yelling at their subordinates. She immediately starts to DEMAND answers where none are possible. Her character is not likable for the most part, but then they have her intelligence come through and take over . She is somewhat heroic in the end like wise the Ali-Scott character. Although he seems to be way more informed of the possibilities causing the events. So yeah I thought it was well done, and borderline plausible. I kept thinking what is this an ALIEN ATTACK when the kept having shots in Space! Then it went a different direction. It’s almost setup for a sequel .

I don't know. I saw the film but it kind of not completely got me into the plot. I found it somewhat weak. I do not feel that the movie addressed issues of mistrust, for instance. I think that Julia Roberts' character was just a bitch, as the daughter of the owner of the house also was. Kevin Bacon character was just a crazy guy. Yes, the parts of the ship, the planes, and the Teslas were impressive, but that was it. As I said at the beginning, it was somewhat compelling and interesting, but weak. Performances were OK. And, really?, do you think he writing was brilliant? I think that, like everything else in the movie, it was OK, but weak.

If you’re watching a movie for entertainment, I agree that it could have been better.
However, this is a topic that many people need to start thinking of a bit. “If something happens, do we have everything that we need to get by? Are you paying attention to what’s happening to the world?”
Kevin Bacon’s character wasn’t crazy at all actually. He was paying attention the entire time to what was happening in the world while the main family enjoyed being distracted (listening to music, playing video games, watching TV, etc). It would be frustrating that you take precautions just to start having a bunch of people use you as a cop out. However I feel like his flaw was to initially not give them SOMETHING they could use to ease their minds.
It is somewhat realistic, but fail to demonstrate just how much WORSE a real situation would be.

Now that it's been a couple days since I saw this movie, I really liked it. The director deftly handled both the social aspects of the two families and the creeping nature of what was happening in the world. The information drops which all happened while the people in the movie were conveniently absent served as a way of giving the audience just enough information about the chaos outside of the part of Long Island they were staying at. George's monolog and the films final spoken words really hit home about the societal dysfunction that exists nowadays......and how an actor whether inside the US or outside could exploit that dysfunction to bring down the country. The movie does limit the cyber attack to the US which is understandable and also makes for even more tension but the book has this happening to the rest of the world too. If this kind of thing happened to the US only it would be catostrophic for the rest of the modern world too....namely the west.
The younger me would have been impatient with the ending but the older me loves that the end really does leave it up to the viewer to interpret the who/why/what now train of thought. Great Movie!
Reminded me of a show that aired on CBS about 17 years ago named Jericho.

The movie is horrible. Makes no sense. So, technology fails, and the world falls apart in a couple of days? Might I remind whoever wrote this that there are some of us still alive when there were no cell phones, No GPS (I went to flight school in the 80s and the best we had were VOR stations). No G1000 displays, all steam gauges. Low end planes still do not have auto pilots. Cars had no fancy electronics; distributor cap no on-board computers. My Suzuki Samurai didn't come with a radio. I had to install one after market. I remember using something called a map and compass for land navigation in the military and my wife always had the map and was the navigator on our vacation trips. TV was analog with rabbit ears, no cable and we had NBC, CBS, ABC, WOR, WPIX and PBS (NYC). AM/FM analog radio of the air. No VHS, DVD. Everything was hard wired, no digital switching and nothing was connected to one another. TVs were Black and white and worked on tubes. Then U turned them on they took a little while to heat up and come on. In college I used a manual typewriter to do my papers. No word processors. Research was done by going to the library and checking out a thing called a book. My point is we lived in the 60s and 70s without the technology we have today and still went about our daily lives. It is so stupid to think that in a few decades we have become so dependent on technology that if it failed the world would instantly fall apart.
FYI, even on newer fancy airplanes with all the G1000 modern glass cockpits, U still have old traditional steam gauges as backup in a emergency. If my autopilot started to misbehave, I would simply pull the mechanical circuit breaker and shutdown the autopilot or any other computer system that acted up. If U want to see a perfect movie on what happens on an aircraft when the world goes to crap, I highly recommend Apollo 13 with Tom Hanks. A 100% better movie and a true story. Kevin Bacon is in that one also. Don't waste ur time with Leave the World Behind. A waste of some very talented actors. I am a fan of all of them. The only reason I tuned in.

Well, its more a coordinated attack, but I understand what you mean. The oiler crashing because of a "navigation error", a bajilion teslas coming out of nowhere to clog an arterial road (not even a highway). Planes falling out the sky is all exagerated. In reality most lf this system have ways to prevent this, but in this movie everything is stupider than reality
Heck, they dont even stock up water until AFTER THE SECOND DAY, where they saw:
      Rumours of blackouts
      Emergency broadcasts x2
      Lost communication
      Desperate people on the road
      DRONES SPREADING TERRORISM FLYERS
PLANES FALLING OFF THE FUCKING SKY
(family tries to leave, still not stockpilling resources)
Find out all exits are blocked by autonomous cars
(Return, wait until night, fill just 1 bathtub and dont even make an inventory of food).
Peak stupidity is geroge aiming shotgun wielding danny with a pistol.

I think it's quite interesting that everything blue in this movie is portrayed as safe or good, even the blue lighting indicates a happy ending. And I also find it ironic that the Lahaina fires in Hawaii wiped out everything except the color blue, anything with the color blue including umbrellas, buildings, blue roofs and vehicles did not burn. Which some people speculate means that a laser burned Lahaina and that this It must have been a Chinese laser , because in test runs it does not affect anything colored blue. I don't know why but I find that very suspicious And I definitely associated that to this movie. Which made it even more creepy for me. I liked this movie and I felt like it really associates to the time because younger children really are oblivious to everything around them except what they see on social media and that includes television. The fact that the friends series was a part of this movie is also a little Easter egg considering Julia Roberts dated Matthew Perry and Matthew Perry died on Julia Roberts birthday. No conspiracy theory there just a coincidence. Also I like that this movie indicates very subtly that it could have been AI that took over even with the reports in the bunker that said small armed forces are attacking government buildings that could be the chaos , when people turn on each other. I thought it was a good movie My partner did not like the ending but I didn't hate it. I think it's a real eye-opener that tells us society is doomed because the younger generation would not have a clue and even Ethan hawke's character says I know nothing I am useless. The world really needs to wake up and see what is truly in front of us not depend on a small device in our hands , I mean he got lost without GPS lol. Get your face out of your phone and pay attention to your surroundings and landmarks for that matter lol.

The most terrifying force of death comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. The moment the Men who wanted to be left alone are forced to fight back, it is a form of suicide. They are literally killing off who they used to be. Which is why, when forced to take up violence, these Men who wanted to be left alone, fight with unholy vengeance against those who murdered their former lives. They fight with raw hate, and a drive that cannot be fathomed by those who are merely play-acting at politics and terror. TRUE TERROR will arrive at these people’s door, and they will cry, scream, and beg for mercy… but it will fall upon the deaf ears of the Men who just wanted to be left alone.”

When I was an undergraduate in the late 60s, many of my friends talked of the brilliance of Bob Dylan's songs. He was such a talented and socially enlightened wordsmith (never mind his awful voice). And so, I listened and listened, but I never got it. Same for this movie. I read comments by many who think the movie was great, with brilliant acting and an engaging nuanced plot. But, like with Dylan, I somehow missed it. The plot is full of holes and the acting seemed very substandard considering the caliber of actors. I think the most convincing performance was delivered by Kevin Bacon in his brief appearance. For me, not a great movie.

Casually unchallenged racism. Poor CGI. I haven't read the book, but I have no intention of doing so after watching this. Naughty China, North Korea and Russia? Self-drive cars crashing? Internet down? This is all so arch, trite and obvious. And to top it all, a girl fixated upon seeing the final Friends episode when the world is coming to its end? Propagandist simple minded film making. This movie has so many problems. The writing was derivative, the characters are contrived. It’s like some city dwelling lib milennials wrote how they thought people would act. Which isn’t how anybody would act. The message hits you over the head like a club and all subtlety and nuance is thrown out the window as characters tell you what the message is, rather than the plot showing you. 2/10. Absolute waste of your time.
And from the comments I can see anybody will eat up anything that the machine will spoon feed you. If you want a well made disaster film, without all the political nonsense, go watch Melancholia.
