The last episode of Friends is titled, "The Last One". The first Africans to arrive in the Americas (at Point Comfort, VA) were aboard a ship named the White Lion. So many easter eggs in this film.

I wanted to quit much earlier than that. Everything just felt "off" right from the beginning. I can't explain it. The writing makes me question if the writers have ever met people before. Almost nobody acts like human beings would in real life. The pretentiousness of dividing the film into "parts" is a reflection of the filmmakers' narcissism and delusion. Tarantino can do that. Nobody else can. The children (and I'm including the girl whose tattoo "96" suggests that she's ~27 years old) make me want to not have kids. The cinematography was the only thing it had going for it, but that's a dime a dozen these days. The musical score felt like parody at moments for me. Tbh I think this is the weirdest movie I have ever watched. On one side the story is so captivating and draws you in and makes you lose track of time. But on the other side, the story tries extremely hard not to admit it's a basic plot. Several times switch the type of movie it is. 1) Knock on door and spoke to the family have the audience thinking they actually don't own the home they are invaders so you immediately think it's some sort of horror movie. 2) Then the animals all gathering the Spanish woman and the boy being bite by an insect losing his teeth. You start thinking it's a virus. 3) Scene in space that shows the satellite, specifically shot in a way to look like an eclipse, planes falling out the sky. Viewers start think end of the world similar to "Knock at cabin" starring Dave Bautista. 5) No it's just United Staes under attack. With the worse ending ever. I rate it 4/5 for storytelling until the final 30mins. 5/5 for wasting my time with a plot that has nothing to do with animals gathering, eclipse or bug bite = losing teeth.
I just want to say at first thought the movie was going to be good, then I fell asleep to it. Came back to finish first off if I was a father and a girl told me about all those deer I would have been pissed. So much meat there you can freeze and live for a good while
I loved the cinematography and the story, also the message behind it, but the characters were kind of an oversight. They talk and behave unnaturally and sterotypically which is a shame...
@@trappedcat3615Its obviously an awful movie. Whats funny though. I knew the end was gonna be bad from reading the reviews. But because they played the friends theme as the last scene, it just left me happy and smiling! 😂
This movie was a joke series of technical errors, from Auto pilot ships, planes, automobiles. The CGI of the deers was rediculous. Disconnected places, bodys on the beach without being seen, shed with heavy ropes. Unrealistic overall!
Had no idea what the movie was about. Had a slow start almost lost interest but the moment the guy showed up at the house I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Haven't had my heart beating so fast without jump scares in a while and its not even a horror. Loved it!!
I really enjoyed this. The only time I laughed though was, in the beginning, with the "I fucking hate people". I was immediately on board. I really enjoyed this a lot, the cinematography and score was phenomenal. But, above everything, dude I am digging your style. Loving the different glasses and colors Chris. You are very chill.
Thanks Chris, I just saw the trailer for this yesterday & knew I needed to watch your review. Wow, 5 out of 5 couches, can’t remember the last time you gave a film 5 couches. I know what I’m doing this evening after my day is done.

I watched this movie last night and although i had some minor criticisms, overall enjoyed and gave a strong 6/10. But today i just can't stop thinking about this film, and have been watching UA-cam videos all morning. I think that's a sign of a success in a movie, that you keep thinking about it, and cant get it out of your head. I think this might be one of those tilms that's gets better on rewatch.
I have always followed your reviews, and you have never led me astray. 🙌🏽🙌🏽This movie here adds to everything I know to be true. And that is you know great movies! It was excellent and now I’m in my house looking crazy! Thank you for being consistent!
This movie and the reaction of many to it reminds of Peter Seller's masterful performance in Being There. Sellers plays the part of a simpleton, but whose simple comments everyone interprets as cryptically expressed brilliance. All these presumably erudite people like Leave the World Behind; it has to be great. I suppose one has to be enlightened to understand its brilliance; so I guess I fell short. The actors may be great, but their performance was anything but. Not a great movie.
This movie was awful, bad writing, bad acting, no problem solving, blatant racism against whites, unnecessary tension between the characters, some of the shots were good but it was annoying not seeing what the characters were looking at. The idea behind the movie was great, conspiracy, suspense, unknowing, but goodness was the execution awful. Honestly if you took out the characters and just left it to a 15 minute video of the world falling apart due to the grid failing and the misinformation and the unknown cause of the radiation this would’ve been great. I’m absolutely disappointed to see people giving this movie 5/5 reviews it almost seems fake and maybe even paid reviews. Moral of the story: terrible movie I would not recommend
Imagine watching a movie which refences Point Comfort and White Lion. The first slave ship to America and the Place they were bought to and sold. But you are so offended by words. Typical young white lie-on. Weak and fragile😂😂 Psalms 58:6 “Break their teeth, O God, in their mouth: break out the great teeth of the young lions, O LORD.”
Its obviously an awful movie. Whats funny though. I knew the end was gonna be bad from reading the reviews. But because they played the friends theme as the last scene, it just left me happy and smiling! 😂
I also wasnt sure about trusting gh for alot of the movie…when he and his daughter go downstairs, i thought i remembered him saying something about tracking this family, like he was hired to do something to them. Idk. I enjoyed how this movie was filmed, so stylistic. I feel it was too long tho and sometimes it felt repetitive in making points. I was alittle stunned by the sudden ending but I think it leaves u with a message on how we distract ourselves with our own desires while the world burns around us.
Chris, been a while since you reviewed a 5/5 movie. I am now SUPER excited about this one. Thanks for starting my day on the right note! Have a great holiday season and keep up the fantastic work.
@@biohead66 the premise was just a red herring. No reason tohave that whole setup at beginning with homeowners/strangers arriving at house other than to somehow introduce Mahershala Ali into movie. Felt very forced.
I always enjoy your reviews, Chris. You have such an insight in pretty much every review. I really enjoy the movie and it’s narrative and I like that they used the tv show “Friends” to create some kind of break from all the sense of doom.
I watched this last night. I enjoyed it but it didn't need to be a 2 1/2 hr film though. But... There were some pretty inexplicable plot holes and logic gaps. And to be honest, I don't get the Amanda hate. Sure, she was a little pissy and angry, but she was nowhere near as insufferable as Ruth though.
Ifs a difference between a movie bending ur mind days after watching it ... And u just still being confused at the odd things that happen that barely connected... The deer , the sons teeth that fell out , the flamingos.. movie tried to be hella cerebral and have hella symbolism and i dont think it translated well to majority of the audience.. Wanna be " Get Out " Wanna be " Quiet Place ". Even those two movies had mysterys that were revealed and connected way more.
The movie gives you no answers whatsoever Plane drops Arab “dea th to america” letters everywhere Neighbor speculates it’s Koreans or Chinese A bomb goes off in the distance as mother and black daughter view it from a distance White daughter finds neighbors bomb shelter and watches friends series finale and the movie literally ends with the friends music DO NOT WATCH THIS POS
I just finished this and found it thoroughly engaging. I wasn't interested in trying to hold the movie accountable to reality too much. I just went with the intensity of observing human behavior in the face of a major crisis.
This movie is so bad the college girl whose supposed to be marshalas daughter is sooooo annoying she’s so full of herself that I almost turned off the movie Julia roberts is supposed to be angry? How? Because she runs into strangers? Marshala is great. Ethan hawke is fine so is the boy and the other girl
Hey, Chris! Happy holidays if you observe! I hope this message finds you well. I will absolutely follow your recommendation as per usual. I am looking forward to watching this movie. Thank you for your work. You are appreciated. You have been informed in all your reviews and a pleasure to watch. God willing, I look forward to to your contributions in 2024. This movie visually was good but I hate when movies have trash endings. Little girl goes missing just to find out she broke into a house ate all the food and out of all the movies and TV shows they had she puts on friends. Then the End. Trash as movie in my opinion
Initially I was intrigued by the increasingly bizarre mysteries. As the events went from the strange, to the implausible, to the impossible I concluded that the cause must be one of three things; either some weird quantum physics event, God or aliens. Certainly the posited 'hackers' explanation was quickly dismissed as you cant hack flamingoes and herds of deer. Nobody has the power to take out the cell network, the TV network, radio stations, the power grid, satellites, shipping, mess with the animals and launch microwave and nuclear attacks. Any one of those would be a tall order, but all of them? All at once? No, that defies credulity. At this point, I realized that the film was not meant to be taken literally, but was highly stylized ...in the Bride v The Crazy 88 way is just a metaphor for victory in the face of adversity. All the events of this film don't need to be taken literally and explained individually ...and shouldn't. When that penny drops, the whole film becomes a metaphor and the question becomes, for what? For man being his own worst enemy. For humanity being the architect of it's own destruction. I thought the film tried a bit too hard to be artsy but on the whole I think it pulled it off, managing to stop just short of being a cliche. I thought the performances from all the actors were outstanding, the cinematography was superb and while I don't generally like overtly political 'films with a social message', this won me over because the villain was human nature and none of us are on the 'right side' of that. I'd give it a 4/5. The only reason it doesn't get a 5/5 from me, is because I'm not a fan of try-hard films with a social message and this is definitely one of those.
Great review! I thoroughly enjoyed watching it last night. While I must admit I didn't quite grasp all the intricacies of the plot, it didn't diminish my enjoyment in the slightest. I highly recommend this fantastic film.
This movie was terrible written and paced. No likeable characters and it leaves you after each act wondering what the hell going on. Awful storytelling
Are these all Bots commenting? People can't really think this is a good movie. How do I describe how much this movie sucked and made no sense. First people don't act like this like when some weird crazy shit happens they tell people about it they're not just going to not say anything for hours or days. Half the movie didn't even have anything to do with the plot it was just unnecessary drama. And then when they think the apocalypse is going to happen they just get high and get drunk they don't try to hoard resources or find resources or anything. And the ending was so stupid and the part where they were yelling at the deer was hilarious. They're so fragile they're scared by a bunch of deer. Then the little girl is just going to break into a house and watch DVDs LOL. I know Americans are reliant on technology but this is just too absurdly dumb
There are slow burn movies and there are movies like this that are way too long and the end result is 'meh'. None of the characters were relatable or likeable or sympathetic. The odd camera angles were repeated to the point of tedium. The characters were flat. The sound track was cringe, especially the end song. The dialogue was stilted. The plot was a mix of trope and mindless. The scene with Roberts' character and Ruth with the herd of cgi deer was hilariously ridiculous and again way too long. Alot of scenes were unnecessary, Roberts' character driving to the store and the cringe dance scene, for example. . Worst movie of '23
This whole movie is trippy. It shows the spiritual war everyone is fighting to keep things the same but at the same time seeing the world change while remaining to keep up. I also see people tormented while the next coming generation processes things more quickly but lack empathy. I also noticed that the mother was more nourishing with the son than the daughter but the daughter was more truth telling.the son was a lot like the father and the older daughter was more like the father who owned the home than she thought. She couldn’t let go. She pointed out everyone’s own selfish motives but not her father. When the time clock went off I’m like guuuurl I hope u made it in that bunk too. LEAVE THE WORLD BEHIND🌚 I also feel like since the pandemic theirs been a secret war and a lot of people showed you who they’re. There’s no going back and I feel that as dramatic as this movie is it’s realistic. The waiting for information and knowing your fate at the same time is what kept this movie suspenseful. Seeing each others flaws as human and remaining stuck in our ways no matter how hard things get. Being disconnected as Animals formed together in flocks. Being distrusting of each race when we’re all in captivity and have no survival skills waiting for a higher power to save us but ignoring all the red flags. I can go on and on about the Mexican lady screaming and all the symbolism but you just have to have an open mind for this type of movie and all the symbolism in this movie. Fate repeats itself like a re-run & the more it does the more you start to see the details. Reality is constantly shifting and the same things we fear become a reality. Only the good.
A film so unsettling in every shot and aspect that I went to sleep wondering if my brain would conjure up some equally strange nightmare. Ome of the best films of this kind I have ever seen. I like it better the more I think about it.
Great review! I'll watch it tonight! Also, to answer your question about any movies that haunt me ??? I recently watched Station Eleven. WOW! I couldn't watch it during the pandemic (ours that is) because it was too close to home. But now that Covid is basically pretty much behind us, I ventured into the Series again. I LOVED it. The character development was stellar, and the story line & how it weaved in and out throughout the series was fascinating. It absolutely captured me. I'm a believer that everything happens for a reason, and this series validated that for me. I absolutely loved it!!!
I hated this movie. The dialogue was absolute garbage. The plot was building and then went completely flat in pace for filler talking. Filler I did not care about at all. I hated the little girl. I didn't know why she was doing anything. She was just weird for the sake of being weird. The music sucked too. Nothing was happening but suspenseful music was going on. Its a lame tactic to keep the audience engaged, becuase nothing happens. And there was that gun stand off scene. That was the absolute worst. It was artificial drama. They freaking battered at the end. WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THE STAND OFF IF THEY WERE JUST GOING TO BARTER ANYWAY?? I want my time back.
You know what else I love I love the part where the super selfish guy just after selfishly trading for antibiotics that somehow help teeth Fall Out Boy somehow just decides to tell everyone "hey there's some super rich ppls mega awesome sercret bunker yall should go live in safely" why would he trll them???
Yeah, the way that scene was handled made no sense. Why would he accept cash, especially when he later says something about a barter system. It had decent suspense but they didn't know how to resolve it well.
I enjoyed the film, except for the last two or three minutes. KNOCK AT THE CABIN was more effective to me, and had a similar storyline. Worth watching, for sure.
Although I enjoy cerebral movies, I found this one to be only pretentious. Yes, at first it transmits the sense of mistery very well, but that is soon lost with long dialogues that although dive into the character's personalities, never build into the story. A story which by the way it's really hard to take seriously. Because let's be honest, I think an alien invasion or a supernatural phenomena would be easier to believe than what this story is about. About the characters, only the one played by Julia is more or less developed. The kids are there only as decoration to the point that the viewer cares little what happens to them which is hard to accomplish, in the bad sense of story telling and engaging with the audiences. Ethan's character has evidently been written as a lame, weak of a men and is portrayed as such, but because of that adds so little that nothing would happen if it wasn't there. While the premise had potential for much more social commentary, we are just let with a very shallow critique on how "people sucks" and how pathetic is. And indeed the main characters are all conceived to be so pathetic, that is hard to believe when they behavior takes a 180 degrees turn. I respect all reviews, but honestly I think anything above mediocre will be driven by Julia's charisma, and the nostalgia for a good American movie, that in my opinion is yet to come after more than a year now of terrible cinema
Just saw the movie. Great cinema work, great sound, great music, good acting, awful dialog, weird script, bad editing, stupid ending. Overall it was a waste of time for me. I am glad you enjoyed it. To me it feels like you were paid for this positive review.
overall good flick even though I think it could have been 20-30 minutes shorter to be even more gripping. it is mysterious and keeps you on your toes, but some of the scenes I felt not necessary (the long dialogue between julia roberts and the girl in the shed for example). SPOILERS AHEAD: I felt like Mahersala Ali character's reaction to a fucking plane dropping on his head was... undertoned?? didnt really get that choice. On the matter, all character's reaction were a bit... weird, maybe? im wondering if it was a deliberate choice, because the acting was always on point.
It was better than killers of the flower moon ! That movie took me three settings in two days to finish it.but this one kept intrigued throughout the whole run and on the edge of my seat. It was really good i give it like 8.5.
The way it ended did not complete the enjoyment of the movie for me. Even though I expected it to end without a climax or conclusion to these characters. I knew it was just an image/situation piece. Strong concept but for me fumbled on the level of concern and thrill they could have instilled with such a concept. Still was invested though. Not enough to have it linger on me all night. I really enjoyed the angles of shots. The chemistry throughout the movie. Not having the typical interactions with such a movie or even with a soundtrack. I enjoyed that. I noticed and enjoyed the different characters that were paired together for a scene of dialogue. Even though some of them were only for character development and not movie driven. It was good. Above good but nothing more for me. Reminded me of bird box and I enjoyed that a lot better at the time. That movie was one that stuck with me in thought for some days.
I felt this movie was about how another country can create and defeat another country like the u.s by strategy ,by messing with their technology and sending some kind of sonic boom noise that can do damage, and mislead them with the flyers the drone was dropping, and how they maybe later they can easily move in to an already defeated confuse country for the advantage and defeat

This movie was a joke series of technical errors, from Auto pilot ships, planes, automobiles. The CGI of the deers was rediculous. Disconnected places, bodys on the beach without being seen, shed with heavy ropes. Unrealistic overall!
I usually agree with you, but on this one I fully disagree. I did not like this movie at all.

Right?? So much tension!

I really enjoyed this. The only time I laughed though was, in the beginning, with the "I fucking hate people". I was immediately on board. But today i just can't stop thinking about this film, and have been watching UA-cam videos all morning. I think that's a sign of a success in a movie, that you keep thinking about it, and cant get it out of your head. I think this might be one of those tilms that's gets better on rewatch.

Weak and fragile😂😂

This movie has to rank as one of my 5 worst movies ever made.
I just finished this and found it thoroughly engaging. I wasn't interested in trying to hold the movie accountable to reality too much. I just went with the intensity of observing human behavior in the face of a major crisis.
Music: “Misled” by Kool and the Gang is played early in the movie.

Oh don't forget the utterly dumb scene of the two women screaming at the deer - for 5 minutes straight! 🙄

I loved the deer scene. Hilarious. My reaction wtf? But then it keeps going for like five or ten minutes. 😂

Alot of scenes were unnecessary, Roberts' character driving to the store and the cringe dance scene, for example. . Worst movie of '23
Days of Heaven, baby.
Dang, I don’t know if I remember the last time I watched a review where you gave 5/5! Looking even more forward to this one!

I loved station eleven too.

Political symbolism? Blue is the color associated with the Democratic party, of which Obama belongs to and was a producer.
While I loved the way the movie was made the characters definitely frustrated the hell out of me.
Forreal had a lot of 🤬🤬🤬 moments 😂
Pretty guud. Little slow and with unsatisfying ending, but overall very well written, acted and directed. Like to see a sequel.
The ending was great I thought unless you were looking for a hero saving the day at the very last second in typical apocalypse movie cliché style.
I know it’s the guy that made Mr.Robot directed this not sure if this is his first movie or not but it was a solid movie

It has its moments
For Mr. Robot fans, Rose looking into the blue light of the tv at the end looked a lot like Tyrell looking into the blue light in his final moments.

🎼 the vastness of space presented in this film is claustrophobic 🎵🎶
We tried to watch it but only got about 30 mins in then realized it was a dumpster fire 🔥.

overall good flick even though I think it could have been 20-30 minutes shorter to be even more gripping. it is mysterious and keeps you on your toes, but some of the scenes I felt not necessary (the long dialogue between julia roberts and the girl in the shed for example).

This movie was awful. Bad acting, bad lines. Hated the characters. I give a 0-5
The way it ended did not complete the enjoyment of the movie for me.
