    Tannins in BARK,can be deadly. I once overnight poisoned a tank using Acacia wood with bark still on it. By the next morning..the water was red and fish had died.
    I have learned the only way to tell if wood is safe is to use wood from trees that grow by streams.. Willow,Sycamore,Alder..riparian trees in general are fine. Wood collected from salt water also is good..the oceans or bays have stripped the bark,dunked and then baked the wood in hot sunlight..you can tell by how much its bleached to judge.
