Your information has been extremely helpful. I have a new tank with all new equipment, wood etc and you insight on the white fuzzy mold looks to be spot on. Your video was my 1st stop shop for help with my sudden issue. Thank you thank you thank you
Thankyou so much. When I first saw the mold, I kinda lost hope in getting the water ready for the fish and I could not find a lot of information on it so your video was so useful. Thankyou
Thank you for this video! I also found that the Nerite snails very good against this white mold. They eat it with pleasure and because of big snail size, it's easy to catch them of after the job is done and aquarium stabilised.
Wow thanks for some great information, I’ve just set up a new tank with a few pieces of root wood and after 5 days I noticed white mould on the wood, panic time I thought but now I’ve watched your video it’s clear what I need to do, a very well earned sub from me, once again thank you
Good day Colin. I read that you struggled with white mould on driftwood some 6 months ago. Has the white mould disappeared by itself eventually, as indicated in the video? What else did you do to clear it up? Thanks for your response.
Just seen this mould on my wood and I was freaking... now my heart is at peace. Hope my cherry shrimp will take a shine for it. Great video- presenter and commentary comes across knowledgeable and humble. Keep them coming. I'm a subscriber.
This is such a terrifically detailed and classically informative. I am facing the issue on day 2 of my 1st planted aquarium. Thanks for calming me down.
I felt so relieved after watching this video but now getting nervous again. I tried a dry start in my new tank, I think I didn't give it enough ventilation and a white mold developed. I saw where flooding the tank would solve it so I flooded it. 2 days later, the mold appeared again all over the driftwood bonsai trees. More alarming is that now I am seeing it on some of the plants on the substrate. It has been over a week since I flooded the tank.Any advice would be very helpful
Official WASABI Moderator: Dear Debbie, please ensure you manually remove the algae by scrubbing with a toothbrush and syphoning it out. Do a 30% water change daily until it goes away. If you like, send a photo to noriaquach@gmail.com.
New setup comes with new learning! Thanks a lot for addressing exact issue which could have been a panic. Another thing, I am noticing is detritus worms (discovered about this after researching) which stressed me out. Water is still cycling and will be 2 weeks soon for new planted aquarium setup. Discovering new things everyday but after research most is heading for a positive side but slow.
A very helpful and informative video, “A must watch” if your worrying about a milky type of gel that has started to build up on the surface of an object in your Aquarium. Which 9 times out of 10 will be on wood.
Thank you very much. I just put brand new root wood in my new tank and once it finally sank to the bottom of the tank the white fuzzy mold started growing. I think I'll wait for it to go away, thanks to your good information.
Superb explanation, I’ve just set up a tank and have this all over my root wood, I transferred it to my low tech setup for a few weeks where my grateful Siamese algae eaters and amanos got rid of it in less than 24hrs I’ll just leave it there until my new tank is cycle then transfer it back along with my shrimp
Thank you so very much I didn't know what to do with the mold on my mopani wood that I purchased for my newly set up aquarium I have 2 other aquariums running for years with mopani in them but was added to the aquarium when they were already established and did not run into this problem. Your video helped me out greatly, thank you. I subscribed to your channel. Enjoy!

Thank you for this very informative video! My Amanos are ultimately NOT interested with the white mold growing on the wood, so it seems I just have to be patient :) Though some say, plecos love to eat it as well.
Update from my side: neither amanos nor oto catfish would touch it. The mold disappeared by itself after approx. 4-5 weeks. While I was doing the maintenance I was taking off as much as I could and with every cleaning there was less and less growing back.
This is so informative, thank you so much! I tried planting seeds for a grass carpet for my aquarium and then white molds started to show, I didn't know what to do so I removed the molds, also the seeds.
I think my cycle might have crashed. Tank has been up and running for about 2 years. I put a new bit of wood in the tank and the next day there was loads of biofilm all over it and long threads of it floating around the tank
Thank you for the video! I think I have the same issue, but the wood is a live and healthy "Lucky Bamboo". Would anyone know if the same principles apply? Or is it a different type of mold? (Clarification: the mold looks similar, but it clouds the whole aquarium and I noticed it attached to my floating plants roots too) I'm concerned and hoping for answers 🙇🏻♂️🙏🏻
Can the mold affect the smell of the water? I’m new to the hobby and I just set up this new tank with brand new equipment and spider wood and it has that white film but my water STINKS! I don’t know why and I’ve cleaned it multiple times.

I left my wood in my new set up, and it developed a thick layer of this mold. It smelled horrible too! I thought it would dissipate, as you say, but it got worse and I couldn't stand the smell. I took it out, and started over with fresh treated water. Did I act too soon?
I recently got frogbits into my tank, and some of them have this white, fuzzy, look around the leaves. Is this mold?? How should I take care of it, because I couldnt find any answers:(

Can someone please tell me if this is normal I know the mold on the huts and stuff but even though I clean it, it always is like this?

question : this white fuzz also appear on sand and rocks like dragon stone right ? i just happen to have a very similar thing in my aquarium and i tried to clean it but it was very sticky ... so i removed some ... cleaned my filter sponges and added more bacteria to make it stabilize faster ... i hope this is done correctly
It transferred to my Amazon sword and a artificial rock. I removed the plant unfortunately and cleaned the rock. mold still coming back on wood etc though and water also cloudy white
