That sound is probably a characteristic of axial drive vs radial drive. So with radial drive, your fighting off cogging and it seems the catch with axial drive is size and noise. Both are just different in their approach to the same thing
I'm impressed .I use an 11nm Gpro and didn't think 5nm would cut it but can see it's not weak at all and a big win for TM .I started my sim racing on TM and will always have a soft spot for them.Heat may be an issue and may be a little close to the monitor if its getting that hot
Very important question when comparing to T-GT: Is the "Harmony" high frequency vibration function even working in GT7 at the moment? I was expecting Harmony to be similar effects to T-GTs T-DFB transducer. It would be crucial for the comparison to know if the "Harmony" actually is working.
Can you explain more about FFB Profile? You say that it was missing and Thrustmaster sent it to you? So does this mean it will be missing and i have to ask Thrustmaster to send it to me? Also how did you implement the FFB profile? Was thought the base or by connecting it to PC.
Sorry, i realize that was a terrible explanation. It was just a preloaded preset I was missing. There are 3 profiles on the wheel, and they recommended profile 3. It's just setup to be stronger.
If you play GT7 again, try turning FFB sensitivity up to 5 to feel the front tires. Logitech also recommends sensitivity 1 and it's a poorer experience. Anyway excellent review!

So I just use the 3rd profile that's preloaded. Then, in the game, I use 5 torque across all cars (depends on the car/user preference). Thrustmaster recommended 1 sensitivity for all road cars and 10 for dirt tracks.
At times, it's on par, to be honest. Couldn't believe how strong it was on PC. I'll always say that I'm not the best at describing FFB so take it with a grain of salt.
I have it and also the dd extreme and tgt2. The ONLY issue is have with the wheel is it doesn't have loss of traction feedback on gt7 for some reason hopefully it gets added the vibrations are def strong enough. Great base tho cant beat it for 500 really needs a shaft extension tho
Something about this wheelbases feeling is off. It just doesnt feel right. Its smooth like a dd but its ffb delivery isnt like one. Its overly free meaning there is no seperation with the feedback which is not a good thing. Its as if all of the mids are gone and its just one fluid feel and that isnt how it should be regardless of the design. I feel thrustmaster found a way to make a cheaper motor that feels smooth but it isnt as direct with true feedback. You should feel the seperation between every single ffb implementation on a dd. It shoupd grab you and then stiffen up when needed and gove you yhr amazing unloading and loading up feeling which this wheel just doesnt do.
My first ever wheel was the 100 dollar TM Ferrari wheel from the early 2010s and I havent simmed in over 8 years now, because these direct drive products always seemed overpriced to me and here we are with TM releasing a new wheel that completely undercuts the entire direct drive market for a fraction of the cost when you factor everything. I'll defs be getting this early next year along with a PS5. This is the complete product we've needed since the T300.
If you're american, you can get the Moza R3 bundle for $440 but it comes with utterly crappy pedals, small steering wheel, bit less torque than the T598 has & is made for Xbox + PC

@Dooood89 I'll always recommend Direct Drive. But your budget is an important factor. As long as you're on the track, I think anything is good, though.
@Dooood89 if you're out looking for PlayStation Compatibility, i think it's for sure the best value. I think you're looking at $699 for fanatec, and it's going to come with the plastic QR1.
With GT7 and console games I think that until it's fully supported in the game you'll never get the best out of it or anywhere near the texture and feeling you got playing on pc
Dont let the smoothness fool you lol also thw weight of the wheel because once yoy use any other thrustmaster wheel it feels like a 2nm wheel which even thw tgtii doesnt do. The same wheel you use with the tgtii peolle have now tested with this wheelbase and boy were they upset. Its clear what they did here. Upsold people and marketed it in a crazy wheel bevause of its frictionless design which actually isnt a good thing. Hurts the loading and unloading feel. This is with the lightest wheel possible also. It feels horrible it doesnt feel like a dd with the way it reactes and the details that come out using anything other then the cheapest wheel possible. They really marketed it and people fell for it at first. Now real users are coming out very upset with how much they dont like it. Them breaking often within a week. And just a whole bunch of issues. Its not a good wheel. Go buy you a csl dd 8nm and call it a day. Yes you can make it stronger turning it all the way up then clip everything out but agaian only because of that wheel. The frictionless design also hurts it with the way it moves at high speeds. They cannot fix that. Just like you may see it moving back and forth even when not playing. All wheelbases have a little bit of friction and for a reason. This isnt a good idea for a wheelbase. Also those noises are frequencies thats fine. Listen to me if you have never used a smoother wheel then a belt yes you may like it or be surprised but you sont have any foundation to compare to. Yes thats a good thing but why not buy a wheel made 2x better quality. Without skimpingn out on the cheapest dd motor they could use then market it bevause of the traits of smoothenss the motor has which btw will never translate to quality i mean simucube pro2 isnt even that smooth and its one of the best wheelbases on the market. They should have used a legit servo dd motor like a mini mige or something or cut the t818 down make one like 5nm and get a quality product. Just some advice from alot of us dd users. We had a facebook post just 2 days ago of someone talking about how bad there experience was and the post ended up getting like 1k comments of the same things and them talking about how bad it was compared to there other dd expereinces. Because once the initial oh yay its smooth phase goes away you start noticing its major flaws. I hate how they marketed it with big buzz words also and the way people use them in reviews. Not you but others. I mean dude thrustmaster wants people to say only good th in gs to the point they reached out to a creator who told them about the issues in a video and talked about negatives. They emailed him telling him he must be doing something wrong. Then he ended up using a different wheel and realized holy crap uts like 2x as weak as the tgtii. Then it ruined the whole thing for him because he realized just how weak it was and exactyl why they gave you such a cheap wheel.
Thought about getting a T GT 2 from Thrustmaster for about 450€ -> but after this video I think I should wait and get this for 499€. I would use on Playstation mainly, PC is too weak
Im 5 days in now and love it. It does get pretty hot after about 2 hours straight. But I've been told that's not a huge deal. To me, it feels amazing, but I'm also not an FFB expert.

I know that it makes fun, I was at ADAC driving one hour a full setup but I did not need those 3 monitors and vibrating seat so simple home set up would be great. I am always in and out to just buy a used cheap g923 and upgrade later but on the other side I want to save to get a better like this one and be just happy about it
You say its not a direct drive wheel, its a different type. Thats incorrect, its still direct drive, just a different implementation. Still same parts, just different design of those parts

Nah, i didn't realize there was preloaded presets. They recommended using preset 3. It was just stronger. There was a firmware update, but I'm not sure how important it was.

Please thrustmaster, make a stand alone $100 handbrake to match this, or $150 sequential/handbrake combo to compete with logitechs new release. If you make a $150 combo, i would buy 2 for my rig, or if you make a $100 standalone handbrake i would buy that. Youve made the th8s which i am buying with my t598, but we need other products to match please. I would also buy a new and improved th8a. At this point the th8a is no longer a $200 product. We need a new and improved h-pattern/sequential combo

Do you have Assetto Corsa or Assetto Corsa Competizione on PlayStation. Would love to know how it works with those games. My expectation is GT7 has very muted FFB so the difference you're experiencing between PS5/GT7 and PC/AC may be GT7 related. To me this is part of why consoles get a bad rep for sim racing. Not because they can't do quality FFB but because the game devs sometimes only include minimum required to tick the box.
@@Road2Racer Assetto Corsa Ultimate Edition (PS4) is regularly on sale. It's a shadow of the PC version in that it's a simplified interface and no modding but for about £7 in the UK when on sales it's worth it even if only for a couple of afternoons fun. Definitely do not buy at full price. ACC seems to be on sale now. Base game about £11. Not sure the price in your region.
@@ahicracing884I’m a GT7 player, but I loaded into ACC after buying this wheel yesterday. I didn’t like the FFB at all. I was getting a lot of cogging which isn’t supposed to happen with this wheel. My settings certainly weren’t optimized though, so I’m sure this will improve.

Not having luck connecting to my ps5, did firmware updates but still have blue cross on display when plugged into my ps5. Looking for help on that

Yup, once I saw that, knew his experience was cooked… turn that up brother. I run it 100% with the Simucube Pro.
So Thrustmasters packet they sent recommended 1 for road cars, 10 for dirt. I'm going to give it a try today!

Im not sure if I should buy a second hand GT DD Pro (8nm) for like 600$ or this one. Oh and Its going to be my first wheel.
I will say the FFB is no joke, but the wheel does feel budget friendly in the hands. Wish a little more quality was put into the sport car wheel.

If you make a $150 combo, i would buy 2 for my rig, or if you make a $100 standalone handbrake i would buy that. Youve made the th8s which i am buying with my t598, but we need other products to match please. I would also buy a new and improved th8a. At this point the th8a is no longer a $200 product. We need a new and improved h-pattern/sequential combo

I've never used one. However, it's not really a comparison because the whole appeal of the T598 is PS compatibility.

My expectation is GT7 has very muted FFB so the difference you're experiencing between PS5/GT7 and PC/AC may be GT7 related.
To me this is part of why consoles get a bad rep for sim racing. Not because they can't do quality FFB but because the game devs sometimes only include minimum required to tick the box.

Assetto Corsa Ultimate Edition (PS4) is regularly on sale.
It's a shadow of the PC version in that it's a simplified interface and no modding but for about £7 in the UK when on sales it's worth it even if only for a couple of afternoons fun. Definitely do not buy at full price.
ACC seems to be on sale now. Base game about £11.

@@ahicracing884I’m a GT7 player, but I loaded into ACC after buying this wheel yesterday. I didn’t like the FFB at all. I was getting a lot of cogging which isn’t supposed to happen with this wheel. My settings certainly weren’t optimized though, so I’m sure this will improve.
@@seanh8095 Thanks for the update Fingers crossed it can be sorted with software update and that Kunos are interested enough to actually do an update to the support the wheel with AC Evo on the horizon.
