@Andybarney555 xbox compatibility is normally added in the wheel not the base so all hope is not lost for Xbox just keeping it under $500 and having compatibility for both consoles seems unrealistic in 2024
Even though I know this is not a drive I would be interested in, I'm very impressed at how in depth you looked into this wheel and how fair and unbiased you completed this review. Especially considering the type of high end equipment you get to play with. Great job Will, very professional.
Awesome review. Just some additional information on the pedals. Thrustmaster have said that a wider plate will be available when the load cell kit comes out
@@Slyfox1775yeah kind of a bummer. But I guess if you just need a 2 pedal setup you won’t need to. I agree though it would not be that expensive to include a wider plate
There’s also a QR upgrade available in addition to the QR adapter though showed with the F1 wheel. This is compatible with most wheels in the ecosystem and completely replaces the old threaded connector on the wheel with the new style QR, eliminating the extra flex that comes with the adapter. Also, the load cell kit comes with a wider plate to accommodate 3 pedals.
You mean the SF1000? My latest info is that there's a conversion kit in development and the existing one does work with several other wheels, but not (or not yet) with the SF1000.
Looks good. Note to table mount users: if your like me and have to pack the wheel away after use you will need to plug in and unplug the pedals with each use. Checked on my CSL DD with a basic wheel on it - it is rotating freely when all those settings as Damper, Inertia, and Friction are set to zero. When disconnected from power it can do more then seven revolutions after I spin it off. No sticky magnetic feelings either. I would say that CSL DD Bundles are still a better option for PC owners who look for further SIM gear upgrades.
Great review and as a mainly Playstation and GT7 player, this is the route I'll be going as I upgrade from the G29 and what a wheel which feels smoother on rotation
Upgrading from thrustmaster t300. Had my eyes on this as I’m a ps5 player (primarily a rally channel). Great review mate. I think you mate have steered me into this direction and purchasing
Anyone know if Thrustmaster will add a independent steering sensitivity option like Fanatec has? I feel like that would be a game changer. Tempted to return this wheel and spend an extra 300 and get the GT Fanatec DD pro.
I dont get why wheelbase now are so large in height, they completely remove the ability to use the in-game instruments and displays for gears realistically with them being within the radius of the wheel rim
@@arthurnunesc indeed it is a technical constrain but I don't think the form factor is a great idea. Something like the moza r9 or simucube 2 pro is just perfect for fitment
so glad DD is getting priced more realistically i still remember saying how overpriced it was like two years ago and people told me i was crazy. it can still be priced much cheaper believe it or not. just depends on the market. expect kits like this to only cost $350 within a couple years, with even cheaper $250 kits like the R3. there's nothing special or new about DD. most casuals are perfectly fine with 2-3nm of torque and cheap pedals. $250 isn't even cheap.. that's the same price as a really good battery powered drill, which mind you have far more torque of up to 135nm. more people buy drills that's the only reason prices are so different.
well to be fair, power drills just about all use planetary gearboxes and not direct drive, hence why different speed settings. The motors in power drills aren't all that strong on their own - I once replaced the one in my Makita DF-453, so I had a really good look at it (not really strong drill, I know - but rated at 45/27Nm for the gears, so a lot "stronger" than most wheels) - Turns out, that thing uses a 550 standard motor for about $30. - these things are rated in the 0.x or even 0.0x Nm constant torque range, dependant on the supplier... For my DIY motion rig I'm using large 500W 24V motors, weighing about 3kg each - I'm sure they could drive a wheel, but they only produce just about 2Nm without a gearbox. That's the thing, the direct drive requirement is not so much necessary anywhere else (who cares about a little bit of slop in a power drill after pressing the button?) and that's what keeps things expensive.
Great review, was waiting long for thrustmaster because i'm in there eco system. Few steering wheels, shifter, tlcm pedals. Only my base is still belt t300. I'm thinking of an t818 or this one. Have ps5 and pc but in future only pc.
I was about to put this on pre order to replace my T500 until I watched this. Thanks so much. ACC on PS5 on the T500 is a dog for steering set up and I hoped this would fix it. Need to wait and see if there are upgrades coming or look at Fanatec.
Just sell the base, keep the pedals untill the loadcell upgrade gets released, you can keep the rim Thrustmaster sells adapter kits for the old 'quickrelease'.
If not for the fact that Moza came out with the truck wheel & steering column stalks accessory, I'd totally go with the T818 or (more likely) T598 for my future simrig
Don't take my word at face value but getting the T598, especially once it comes out as a standalone product instead of a bundle, is a good choice if you want to stay with Thrustmaster & keep on using your current accessories. *Theoretically* the wheels should work fine with the wheelbase using their adapter but again, do some more research on that
Appreciate the thorough review, I was hoping to see some direct comparison to the turtlebeach wheel but i understand you can only cram so much into a video. I'm planning on returning the turtlebeach wheel as im worried about its longevity but at its price point im having a hard time finding things i dont like with it. It seems to be an insane value with some little quirks but more importantly a company thats never made sim racing equipment which scares me. I have yet to have any major problems with it after about 25hrs and wondering if maybe I got lucky scored a good working unit, my gut says I should certainly still return it. This really doesnt seem like a better option however.
Tossing up between the Thrustmaster T598 and the Moza R5 (bundle is actually a little cheaper in AU) only racing game I play on the PS5 is GT7, everything else I play on PC
Great to see new products. The form factor here is a complete mystery to me though. That wheelbase is going to block the view to a tonne of onscreen UI elements in just about every racing game out there.
Majority of people who buy Logitech & Thrustmaster products play on a console while sitting on a sofa far away from their big TV so the wheelbase size doesn't really matter for them as it doesn't obscure anything
What wheel s/w option were you using in the games though? An in game CSL option for a T598 isn't going to work as well as a T598 for a T598. Surely more refinement will happen with the SIM Devs write specific code for the wheel.
Should I consider this base or the t818 cause I have a lot of rims already and I was wondering which is better, the t598 or t818. Also coming from a TS-XW. Please drop your suggestions.
It depends on what you want. If you're going after Playstation compatibility then totally go for the T598 (same basic strength as the TS-XW) but if you're PC only & want something with more strength then go for the T818
Hey Will, got the T818 and have experience with that crazy stationary vibration. Sadly I forgot which game it was but my take is that it's a Thrustmaster algorithm thing since the T818 is DD drive.
Sadly fanatec dosent sell a bracket to hard mount for ppl who dont have an adjustable deck. But they made an shaft extender... i really hope they start making some better design choices/changes
I think the deep black background makes your videos really hard to watch, since most simracing gear is black. Your old setup with white walls was way better in this regard.
It will be a good seller for sure but they should've made it 8nm .Anyone with a TGT 2 has 6.8nm so 5 is a step down especially as it doesn't have TDFB [their version of trueforce] Maybe a 8nm booster pack like Fanntec would ve been good .
its nt really a replacement for that, its to replace the t300, their more expensive DD base is supposed to replace the tgt 2 but they still haven't sorted out console support for it
@@awakeandwatching953 Yeah that's a very fair point about t300. i fancied the TM 818 but I bought the Logitec Gpro because Gt7 was my main game and Fannytec were always out of stock so not even an option .So glad I did tho ,what a great wheel .
Got a question. I've always had belt drive wheels, back to the TM Formula T2 with ICR2 and Nascar Racing. I mostly play older PC games NR2003, NR, ICR2, etc. but also experiment with iRacing and AC original on the PC. I do dabble with GT7 and other games on the PS4, and will definitely get Nascar 25 on PS5 when released. My T500RS is getting long in the tooth, though, and does not work with my PS5. This T598 looks like a worthy upgrade. However, is it worth the cost to go ahead with a move to the Fanatec GT DD Pro even though it will cost 300-500 (by the time I'm done with it) more for the 8NM version? Or, is this new T598 perfectly fine for a hobbyist?
I don't have the T598 & am stuck with "just" the T300, so take my advice with a grain of salt, but if you're more of a "weekend gamer" & don't really plan on being very involved into simracing (getting expensive rigs, expensive wheels, pedals etc.) then the T598 is more than enough as it will give you enough strength to have fun with but also the market for potential aftermarket upgrades to your setup won't break the bank, like can be seen with Moza or Fanatec (nevermind other, more expensive brands)
The GT7/Playstation mode occilations being a game issue they need to work around seems believable enough, but to not then impliment some sort of load-detection based protection feature in hardware is neglegence.
I’m looking to get a DD wheel as an upgrade. Thank you for this insanely informative review. Do you still use the wheel and are there any updates on the downsides on the wheel which they managed to fix? I’m in between getting this one or the Fanatec DD+ for my PS5 playing GT7. As the big difference in prices, is the higher price for the Fanatec worth it?
Great review! Would you mind sharing some of your settings for different games. I can't find anything online besides GT7. And many of us beginners don't really know to tweak things and it would be nice to have a good starting point on some decent settings, for games like AC, ACC, FM, EA WRC etc.
Hi, I did exactly this. Upgraded from a T248 with a playseat challenge actifit. It works. But you have to mount the base on the angled metal piece and then you have only two matching holes for the screws to put it on the playseat table. I pulled the screws very very tight, like so tight that the metal piece is bending and it's ok, no problems with driving even with the significantly higher forces compared to the t248. But I would feel safer with two additional screws. But then you have to drill holes in the plate of the Playseat. Hope this helps. I don't regret it. Seating position is also better than I thought.
Is the force feedback in ACC on PS 5 really terrible? because i am thinking of buying this as a replacement for my t 150. If the FFB is worse with the T 598 in ACC than the t 150 I am not gonna buy it.
Thank you for the thorough review. One thing i want to ask is if with the included mounting brackets it can be mounted in wheel stands made for the older models. rg next level racing WS 2.0 had holes for T300. So, with the mounting brackets can it be screwed in those holes?

there's nothing special or new about DD. most casuals are perfectly fine with 2-3nm of torque and cheap pedals.
Channels like this really make me miss Barry Rowland.
omg yes.. I would grab a beverage and watch his 90 minute complete tear down of whatever product he is reviewing!!!
Great review, was waiting long for thrustmaster because i'm in there eco system. Few steering wheels, shifter, tlcm pedals. Only my base is still belt t300. I'm thinking of an t818 or this one. Have ps5 and pc but in future only pc.
Interesting what they can craft from that technology on more high end product .
I was about to put this on pre order to replace my T500 until I watched this. Thanks so much. ACC on PS5 on the T500 is a dog for steering set up and I hoped this would fix it. Need to wait and see if there are upgrades coming or look at Fanatec.
Tommorrow my t598 will arrive. I m a ea sports wrc player, i see you tried it. Any advice for a good force feedback?
Hi Boosted Media ty for the Review on the T598 thinking getting it this weekend , my T150 gas pad spring wear out so I'm just window shopping
Hmmm the level for adavanced but TGT 2 for expert. Does T598 better then TGT 2?
Looking to sell my TS-PC racer 488 Challenge and T3PA setup for this! Happy they're finally going into the Entry level DD market
Just sell the base, keep the pedals untill the loadcell upgrade gets released, you can keep the rim Thrustmaster sells adapter kits for the old 'quickrelease'.
@ im guessing that this base comes with a table clamp?
Yes it does. @@TheOneBot381
If not for the fact that Moza came out with the truck wheel & steering column stalks accessory, I'd totally go with the T818 or (more likely) T598 for my future simrig
It sounds like maybe the issue with the feedback might be because of the overshoot feature. Maybe there needs to be a way to turn that off?
ive been waiting for this review after seeing AR12 use it
I’ve had 2 tx both over 5 years old is this worth buying and I can use my old rims on this new base with the extra peice correct ?
Honestly, Id reckon you'd be better off going with a company who already has a long established ecosystem.
Thrustmaster, Logitech, Fanatec etc..
I think my Logitech Pro Wheel base looks big and goofy, but this TM base now has that beaten.
I've been waiting for my fellow Australian review good stuff cobber. $899 aud is great but the Q1 2025 release is going to hurt waiting 😂
Tossing up between the Thrustmaster T598 and the Moza R5 (bundle is actually a little cheaper in AU) only racing game I play on the PS5 is GT7, everything else I play on PC
The humming/vibration and the overshoot sounds a lot like the control law on the motor driver isn't tuned very well.
New sub... Love your video, i am just getting back into sim racing again, so awesome video ;) Thank you
Waiting for rob dahm to build a 4 rotor version.....
Haha I met him a few weeks ago at World Time Attack.
Dude, it'll be scary AF! Just imagine the peak torque it'll produce.
@@boostedmedia Is the T598 better than the T-GT II for PlayStation?
Great to see new products. The form factor here is a complete mystery to me though. That wheelbase is going to block the view to a tonne of onscreen UI elements in just about every racing game out there.
Majority of people who buy Logitech & Thrustmaster products play on a console while sitting on a sofa far away from their big TV so the wheelbase size doesn't really matter for them as it doesn't obscure anything
How can I get this to work with the Thrustmaster SF1000 wheel?
Does that vibration perhaps feel like the engine running??
What wheel s/w option were you using in the games though? An in game CSL option for a T598 isn't going to work as well as a T598 for a T598. Surely more refinement will happen with the SIM Devs write specific code for the wheel.
In the case of ACC they’ve said they won’t be doing any further development.
Do you think the t300 is a good PlayStation option. T598 isn't available in my country
GT 7 is notoriously bad for oscillating with DD wheels.
Hey Will, got the T818 and have experience with that crazy stationary vibration. Sadly I forgot which game it was but my take is that it's a Thrustmaster algorithm thing since the T818 is DD drive.
Great video. Very informative. Covered everything I wanted to know.
Mounting holes work on a playseat challenge?
I have $500 total to spend on a unit including pedals and it must mount to a desk with clamp on PC, what do you recomend please?
The moxa R5 probably for value and price but if you can go a little more check out the asetek stuff so good for the price
Sadly fanatec dosent sell a bracket to hard mount for ppl who dont have an adjustable deck.
But they made an shaft extender... i really hope they start making some better design choices/changes
Theoretically, if you connect a more powerful power supply, it will have more nm like in Fanatec?
Theoretically yes, but it may also burn out quicker or instantly if we assume it wasn't made with that functionality in mind.
No need to, it has a built in boost function, that doesn't require additional hardware.
Great review! Easy to understand, esp on explainin the cogging issue for console players like myself.
I think the deep black background makes your videos really hard to watch, since most simracing gear is black. Your old setup with white walls was way better in this regard.
Any idea for TM Hub compatibility? Really want to updgrade but if I cant use the shifter and the handbrake at the same time then im out :(
They said it is compatible 👍
Just received my T598 yesterday. Upgraded from a T248. 😃
What do you think of it?
@@oleandreasenLove it.
I hear talk about a larger pedal plate to go with the loadcell upgrade
It will be a good seller for sure but they should've made it 8nm .Anyone with a TGT 2 has 6.8nm so 5 is a step down especially as it doesn't have TDFB [their version of trueforce]
Maybe a 8nm booster pack like Fanntec would ve been good .
It's a step down on paper but let's see if it actually is one.
its nt really a replacement for that, its to replace the t300, their more expensive DD base is supposed to replace the tgt 2 but they still haven't sorted out console support for it
@@awakeandwatching953 Yeah that's a very fair point about t300. i fancied the TM 818 but I bought the Logitec Gpro because Gt7 was my main game and Fannytec were always out of stock so not even an option .So glad I did tho ,what a great wheel .
It has a builtin boost function.
The T598 does totally have a TDFB-like function but it does that using the motor itself instead of a dedicated transducer
I have this and the trophy playseat coming Friday. I can't wait
Not a Thrustmaster user, but going from The Fanatec GT DD Pro to the DD+ is huge upgrade mate, and definitely worth it. I play mostly GT7
Ill take it when its $100 off and with xbox compatibility. This would be a huge update from my T128
Im on ps5, with a dying T300RS.. i guess this is the perfect upgrade ?
Great review. Moza R5 or this strictly on FFB feel, strength, and accuracy which do you prefer ? PC only. Thx
Thanks for the video! So what would you say is the best compromise for a wheel/wheelbase/pedal package up to approx 500? I only need PC compatibility
Only 3 wheel FFB setting preset in addition to default?? No custom FFB settings presets 3+ possible??
Is this unit compatible to the PS3 ? Please let me know ok.
Great review! Would you mind sharing some of your settings for different games. I can't find anything online besides GT7. And many of us beginners don't really know to tweak things and it would be nice to have a good starting point on some decent settings, for games like AC, ACC, FM, EA WRC etc.
Has someone tested with a Playseat Evolution, do things line up with the mounts etc??
Thx for any info
Hi, I did exactly this. Upgraded from a T248 with a playseat challenge actifit. It works. But you have to mount the base on the angled metal piece and then you have only two matching holes for the screws to put it on the playseat table. I pulled the screws very very tight, like so tight that the metal piece is bending and it's ok, no problems with driving even with the significantly higher forces compared to the t248. But I would feel safer with two additional screws. But then you have to drill holes in the plate of the Playseat. Hope this helps. I don't regret it. Seating position is also better than I thought.
I have the t248 is this a big upgrade?
Is the force feedback in ACC on PS 5 really terrible? because i am thinking of buying this as a replacement for my t 150. If the FFB is worse with the T 598 in ACC than the t 150 I am not gonna buy it.
Yes. This is covered in the video. DO not buy this if you intend to use it primarily with ACC on PS.
hi could you do a comparison test between thrustmaster T598 & T818.
Hey Will. Are you going to get the VNM DD to review?
Thank you for the thorough review. One thing i want to ask is if with the included mounting brackets it can be mounted in wheel stands made for the older models. rg next level racing WS 2.0 had holes for T300. So, with the mounting brackets can it be screwed in those holes?
Maybe I missed it, but will this be compatible on PS5 and Xbox with a PS5 base and a Xbox wheel?
Great review as always would love one on the LEONXZ XGT ULTIMATE
