If you could make it brighter a little bit that would help.

Looks good. Note to table mount users: if your like me and have to pack the wheel away after use you will need to plug in and unplug the pedals with each use. The RJ style plug for the pedals have a tendancy to fail at the retaining tab that keeps the plug in place and is super annoying to find a way to keep in once the tab fatigues and falls off. Dont know if other manufacterurs use these plugs but minor gripe.
Me too, still trying to find the most comfortable settings, I have the TLCMs already so haven’t bothered with the pedals as of yet. The height of the base hasn’t been an issue with me as I have a rig, and I raised my tv stand up a couple inches, but enjoying thus far!

@@hYpYz I was also on the T300, so this worked well already being in this ecosystem. Still adjusting, but overall I like the feeling and the precision when cornering for me is night and day.
There’s also a QR upgrade available in addition to the QR adapter though showed with the F1 wheel. This is compatible with most wheels in the ecosystem and completely replaces the old threaded connector on the wheel with the new style QR, eliminating the extra flex that comes with the adapter. Also, the load cell kit comes with a wider plate to accommodate 3 pedals.
You mean the SF1000? My latest info is that there's a conversion kit in development and the existing one does work with several other wheels, but not (or not yet) with the SF1000.

Thanks for the review. I bought mine last week coming from a G29. I wish more companies had DD wheels for PlayStation but i get it. It's a major upgrade from the Logitech for sure. At the price point i am extremely happy with it.
My wheel is a t300 rn and i play several racing games on pc but i absolutely love gt7 on ps5, what would be the best wheel i could buy? im looking for a wheel i wont need to upgrade anymore and offers a decent shifter and handbrake all from the same brand so it could all be used on ps5 as well as reducing the cables
I started a few weeks ago. I went from the Logitech G923 to the Thrustmaster T248, was going to get the Turtle Beach VelocityOne Wheel, but got the Thrustmaster T598. It's by far the best. It's super smooth, the FFB is excellent, and the base isn't that big. It looks bigger in the videos than ot actually is. I have my Alienware AW3418DW mounted about 6 inches above my desk and it's perfect. I highly recommend this. The pedals are amazing, too.

It’s nice to see something different, since direct drive arrived all the new bases are starting to feel like pretty much the same with just the ecosystem making a big difference.

I would, if I was still in the market for an entry level DD wheel. Fanatec customer service was horribly unresponsive, taking over a month just to get a return started on a faulty GT DD Pro. The USB-C connector in the quick release kept disconnecting while driving, which is a common fault with their design. There are numerous YT videos from people having the same issue.
I have used both customer services in the past and both were very helpful with my situation. Both were helping me with products of theirs that I didn't even buy from them, I bought both used. But it's been a couple years since I've needed to contact Fanatec. I just contacted Thrustmaster a couple times in past 6 months and both times they replied within a day.
Sadly fanatec dosent sell a bracket to hard mount for ppl who dont have an adjustable deck. But they made an shaft extender... i really hope they start making some better design choices/changes
Appreciate the thorough review, I was hoping to see some direct comparison to the turtlebeach wheel but i understand you can only cram so much into a video. I'm planning on returning the turtlebeach wheel as im worried about its longevity but at its price point im having a hard time finding things i dont like with it. It seems to be an insane value with some little quirks but more importantly a company thats never made sim racing equipment which scares me. I have yet to have any major problems with it after about 25hrs and wondering if maybe I got lucky scored a good working unit, my gut says I should certainly still return it. This really doesnt seem like a better option however.
If not for the fact that Moza came out with the truck wheel & steering column stalks accessory, I'd totally go with the T818 or (more likely) T598 for my future simrig
Just sell the base, keep the pedals untill the loadcell upgrade gets released, you can keep the rim Thrustmaster sells adapter kits for the old 'quickrelease'.
Great video. I am about to upgrade to a DD wheel, so very interesting to see other options than Fanatec and Moza. Being a non-English speaker, you tend to speak very fast for me to not miss anything, so I viewed this video at .75 speed, which was great for me. SO many details to focus on. Excellent excellent video. I have no experience with any DD wheels. This one comes with a plastic rim - now - are the Fanatec and Moza rims also of plastic? I have kids with a PlayStation 4, so will this wheel work on the PS4? I myself will only use it on PC, but nice to have both options.
Should I consider this base or the t818 cause I have a lot of rims already and I was wondering which is better, the t598 or t818. Also coming from a TS-XW. Please drop your suggestions.
It depends on what you want. If you're going after Playstation compatibility then totally go for the T598 (same basic strength as the TS-XW) but if you're PC only & want something with more strength then go for the T818
Thank you for the thorough review. One thing i want to ask is if with the included mounting brackets it can be mounted in wheel stands made for the older models. rg next level racing WS 2.0 had holes for T300. So, with the mounting brackets can it be screwed in those holes?
Great to see new products. The form factor here is a complete mystery to me though. That wheelbase is going to block the view to a tonne of onscreen UI elements in just about every racing game out there.
Majority of people who buy Logitech & Thrustmaster products play on a console while sitting on a sofa far away from their big TV so the wheelbase size doesn't really matter for them as it doesn't obscure anything
It will be a good seller for sure but they should've made it 8nm .Anyone with a TGT 2 has 6.8nm so 5 is a step down especially as it doesn't have TDFB [their version of trueforce] Maybe a 8nm booster pack like Fanntec would ve been good .
its nt really a replacement for that, its to replace the t300, their more expensive DD base is supposed to replace the tgt 2 but they still haven't sorted out console support for it
@@awakeandwatching953 Yeah that's a very fair point about t300. i fancied the TM 818 but I bought the Logitec Gpro because Gt7 was my main game and Fannytec were always out of stock so not even an option .So glad I did tho ,what a great wheel .
Hey Will, got the T818 and have experience with that crazy stationary vibration. Sadly I forgot which game it was but my take is that it's a Thrustmaster algorithm thing since the T818 is DD drive.
Thank you for highlighting the issues with ACC on PlayStation. This was the only sim I used on a daily basis and so now it’s put me off. May have to buy a PC now!
Is the force feedback in ACC on PS 5 really terrible? because i am thinking of buying this as a replacement for my t 150. If the FFB is worse with the T 598 in ACC than the t 150 I am not gonna buy it.
Great review! Would you mind sharing some of your settings for different games. I can't find anything online besides GT7. And many of us beginners don't really know to tweak things and it would be nice to have a good starting point on some decent settings, for games like AC, ACC, FM, EA WRC etc.
@boostedmedia thats true, or reseting all settings. I will say, FFB D has friction at mid though, which is good, and where most kids should probably race. But still, they can change the FFB mode too. So thruamaster, fix this now!
Got a question. I've always had belt drive wheels, back to the TM Formula T2 with ICR2 and Nascar Racing. I mostly play older PC games NR2003, NR, ICR2, etc. but also experiment with iRacing and AC original on the PC. I do dabble with GT7 and other games on the PS4, and will definitely get Nascar 25 on PS5 when released. My T500RS is getting long in the tooth, though, and does not work with my PS5. This T598 looks like a worthy upgrade. However, is it worth the cost to go ahead with a move to the Fanatec GT DD Pro even though it will cost 300-500 (by the time I'm done with it) more for the 8NM version? Or, is this new T598 perfectly fine for a hobbyist?
I don't have the T598 & am stuck with "just" the T300, so take my advice with a grain of salt, but if you're more of a "weekend gamer" & don't really plan on being very involved into simracing (getting expensive rigs, expensive wheels, pedals etc.) then the T598 is more than enough as it will give you enough strength to have fun with but also the market for potential aftermarket upgrades to your setup won't break the bank, like can be seen with Moza or Fanatec (nevermind other, more expensive brands)
Don't take my word at face value but getting the T598, especially once it comes out as a standalone product instead of a bundle, is a good choice if you want to stay with Thrustmaster & keep on using your current accessories. *Theoretically* the wheels should work fine with the wheelbase using their adapter but again, do some more research on that
I think the deep black background makes your videos really hard to watch, since most simracing gear is black. Your old setup with white walls was way better in this regard.
I'm looking to start in sim racing and I decided to go with the Playseat Trophy rig. I'm going to be playing both PC and PS and because I'm Canada Fanatec is simply too expensive. At First at was pretty set on the Logitech G923 but after a bit more research I thought I was settle on getting the Thrustmaster T300. But now the the T598 being around the same price (In Canada), I'm not sure which one I should get. The T598 seems too unrefined at the moment and perhaps tricky to properly set-up. Which one should I go with?
Turning the friction to high totally eliminates that, but I don’t know how many details I’m missing because of that setting. That said, when it’s bad, it’s really bad!
Thanks for the Review nice to see someone knows what they're talking about instead of some channels hype the product up. I currently have the t300 Rs and don't Wana stay on a belt driven wheel base. However this design doesn't give me any excitement to go and buy it. It's way too tall and would get in the way of the screen. Still waiting for Sony to stop cock blocking Moza and get on with allowing Moza and other companies to have console compatibility.
I dont get why wheelbase now are so large in height, they completely remove the ability to use the in-game instruments and displays for gears realistically with them being within the radius of the wheel rim
@@arthurnunesc indeed it is a technical constrain but I don't think the form factor is a great idea. Something like the moza r9 or simucube 2 pro is just perfect for fitment
From the little I know about this type of motor it will be great for wheel with less NM but when you start getting to like 16NM or more the size of the unit would get much bigger, this is not 100% new tech as been used in industrial type gear for years but its sure new to sim racing.
What wheel s/w option were you using in the games though? An in game CSL option for a T598 isn't going to work as well as a T598 for a T598. Surely more refinement will happen with the SIM Devs write specific code for the wheel.
I could only see this working well if they made a decent-length shaft extenderino so you can tuck that bad boy up and behind your monitor; otherwise, I'll take a wee bit of cogging if it means a nice neat form factor that won't plunge my town into darkness like Mr. Burns' Sun Blocker
The GT7/Playstation mode occilations being a game issue they need to work around seems believable enough, but to not then impliment some sort of load-detection based protection feature in hardware is neglegence.
I was looking at this pretty earnestly until you showed off that oscillation "feature", I have small children in the house and I wouldn't want a kid coming along and poking the wheel, and then trying to stop it and hurt themselves, so I absolutely understand your concern as a father regarding it. Hopefully they get it fixed and then maybe the wheel will be something I consider.
I mean, the oscillations are not just Thrustmaster's issue, it's pretty much a thing that every direct drive wheelbase does (belt driven as well but not as common). Some manufacturers have somewhat "fixed" the issue on their wheelbases but it still occours on a vast majority of them

Great video. Very informative. Covered everything I wanted to know.
Channels like this really make me miss Barry Rowland.
omg yes.. I would grab a beverage and watch his 90 minute complete tear down of whatever product he is reviewing!!!
I have this and the trophy playseat coming Friday. I can't wait
Great review! Easy to understand, esp on explainin the cogging issue for console players like myself.
Very nice and detailed review! Well, for me the question would be: t598 or moza r9 for PC ACC? R9+ks wheel is 629€.
R9+KS all day, higher torque, better QR, better wheel.
No hesitation, thrustmaster is really worthwhile if you can't get anything else (aka you're on console and fanatec is bankrupt)
@arthurnunesc meanwhile I got the r9 + KS and I really like it.
Thank you for the thorough review. One thing i want to ask is if with the included mounting brackets it can be mounted in wheel stands made for the older models. rg next level racing WS 2.0 had holes for T300. So, with the mounting brackets can it be screwed in those holes?
I've been waiting for my fellow Australian review good stuff cobber. $899 aud is great but the Q1 2025 release is going to hurt waiting 😂
Just received my T598 yesterday. Upgraded from a T248. 😃
What do you think of it?
@@oleandreasenLove it.
It will be a good seller for sure but they should've made it 8nm .Anyone with a TGT 2 has 6.8nm so 5 is a step down especially as it doesn't have TDFB [their version of trueforce]
Maybe a 8nm booster pack like Fanntec would ve been good .
It's a step down on paper but let's see if it actually is one.
its nt really a replacement for that, its to replace the t300, their more expensive DD base is supposed to replace the tgt 2 but they still haven't sorted out console support for it
@@awakeandwatching953 Yeah that's a very fair point about t300. i fancied the TM 818 but I bought the Logitec Gpro because Gt7 was my main game and Fannytec were always out of stock so not even an option .So glad I did tho ,what a great wheel .
It has a builtin boost function.
The T598 does totally have a TDFB-like function but it does that using the motor itself instead of a dedicated transducer
I hear talk about a larger pedal plate to go with the loadcell upgrade
Hey Will, got the T818 and have experience with that crazy stationary vibration. Sadly I forgot which game it was but my take is that it's a Thrustmaster algorithm thing since the T818 is DD drive.
Hey Will. Are you going to get the VNM DD to review?
hi could you do a comparison test between thrustmaster T598 & T818.
Thank you for highlighting the issues with ACC on PlayStation. This was the only sim I used on a daily basis and so now it’s put me off. May have to buy a PC now!
No problem. You definitely don’t want to buy this if your main sim is ACC on PS.
Is the force feedback in ACC on PS 5 really terrible? because i am thinking of buying this as a replacement for my t 150. If the FFB is worse with the T 598 in ACC than the t 150 I am not gonna buy it.
Yes. This is covered in the video. DO not buy this if you intend to use it primarily with ACC on PS.
Great review! Would you mind sharing some of your settings for different games. I can't find anything online besides GT7. And many of us beginners don't really know to tweak things and it would be nice to have a good starting point on some decent settings, for games like AC, ACC, FM, EA WRC etc.
watching your videos, I got into a simagic Ecosystem, love it.
Agreed they need to fix the menu oscillation issue, but just turn friction to high, then theres no oscillation at all in the mean time
Yep. I mentioned that on the video. Still doesn’t stop a kid turning it off and hurting themselves though.
Great review as always would love one on the LEONXZ XGT ULTIMATE
GT 7 is notoriously bad for oscillating with DD wheels.
Do you think the G Pro is worth the extra $700?
I’ve had 2 tx both over 5 years old is this worth buying and I can use my old rims on this new base with the extra peice correct ?
Don't take my word at face value but getting the T598, especially once it comes out as a standalone product instead of a bundle, is a good choice if you want to stay with Thrustmaster & keep on using your current accessories. *Theoretically* the wheels should work fine with the wheelbase using their adapter but again, do some more research on that
I think the deep black background makes your videos really hard to watch, since most simracing gear is black. Your old setup with white walls was way better in this regard.
Will these new pedals of thrustmaster work with the older wheel bases like the t300rs and t248
Theoretically, if you connect a more powerful power supply, it will have more nm like in Fanatec?
Theoretically yes, but it may also burn out quicker or instantly if we assume it wasn't made with that functionality in mind.
No need to, it has a built in boost function, that doesn't require additional hardware.
Please do the vnm extreme review 🙏
I'm looking to start in sim racing and I decided to go with the Playseat Trophy rig. I'm going to be playing both PC and PS and because I'm Canada Fanatec is simply too expensive. At First at was pretty set on the Logitech G923 but after a bit more research I thought I was settle on getting the Thrustmaster T300. But now the the T598 being around the same price (In Canada), I'm not sure which one I should get. The T598 seems too unrefined at the moment and perhaps tricky to properly set-up. Which one should I go with?
I have the t300rs and the T598 both at home, If I were you I would get the t598.
Has someone tested with a Playseat Evolution, do things line up with the mounts etc??
Thx for any info
they really outdid themselves with this one
im actually interested in this wheel at first until it rotates like crazy.
La base que va atornillada al dd, viene en la caja o tienes que comprarla aparte?
Interesting what they can craft from that technology on more high end product .
I dont get why wheelbase now are so large in height, they completely remove the ability to use the in-game instruments and displays for gears realistically with them being within the radius of the wheel rim
this is the biggest one I've seen and he explained pretty well why it is like it is...
This is because of the different type of motor.
He explains at 7:39, it's a consequence of going with the axial design.
@@arthurnunesc indeed it is a technical constrain but I don't think the form factor is a great idea. Something like the moza r9 or simucube 2 pro is just perfect for fitment
That’s mostly a thrust master thing
Wow so under whelming for us console users glad i went Gpro route years ago
Im on ps5, with a dying T300RS.. i guess this is the perfect upgrade ?
I wonder if TM will sell that base separetly?
Yes, early 2025
First one in Australia. Any idea when it will actually become available to us?
Also how does it compare with the T-gt-2 and Moza R5
Great video man, but can you have the prices in aud please
Easily googled 😉
From the little I know about this type of motor it will be great for wheel with less NM but when you start getting to like 16NM or more the size of the unit would get much bigger, this is not 100% new tech as been used in industrial type gear for years but its sure new to sim racing.
What wheel s/w option were you using in the games though? An in game CSL option for a T598 isn't going to work as well as a T598 for a T598. Surely more refinement will happen with the SIM Devs write specific code for the wheel.
In the case of ACC they’ve said they won’t be doing any further development.
I could only see this working well if they made a decent-length shaft extenderino so you can tuck that bad boy up and behind your monitor; otherwise, I'll take a wee bit of cogging if it means a nice neat form factor that won't plunge my town into darkness like Mr. Burns' Sun Blocker
Finally, a worthy upgrade from my T300
11:49....he says "do do" hahaha
I feel like this wheel is gonna sell a boatload this Xmas, everyone that plays GT7 will buy it if they can afford it.
It will, they have already sold out twice in the last 10 days or so
Im waiting for wheel base to be available on its own and upgrade my t300rsgt based setup.
@boost are you missing any of the fine detail from a Logitech wheel a.k.a. truforce?
would you say a Thrustmaster T598 and miss out on any subtle Truforce from a Logitech g923. I’ll be playing on my PlayStation exclusively.
Some manufacturers have somewhat "fixed" the issue on their wheelbases but it still occours on a vast majority of them

i do like the video length its very in depth
