Your love and enthusiasm for the GenR8 alone makes the purchase justified. Great video been waiting for this and great choices for comparison that brute is also well worth the money!
Love the bite, and dirty old school sound of the Gen R-8. Three great Synths!!! Got all of the Brutes! Can't wait to get the Wasp, and the Get R-8. Right now the Gen R-8 is hard to come by. Company is waiting on parts. to make more.
Martin Hughes they sold about 20 that were in stock after I purchased one and iv got number 390 so about 90 left to be made mate! Plenty chances yet! Selling about 1-4 a day before I took the leap these videos really helped!
They don’t wobble when you push them down properly xD Think bo forgot they are all just slid on like any knob and didnt think about pushing it in all the way down. Mine must have taken a bump during transit! All the left hand side knobs where pushed down too far and touching the case and I just pulled them out to a good non wobbly level haha
Pleasantly surprised by the full tone of the GenR8, good pick and a synth that hasn't been on my radar. It does have a fat full sound eclipsing the Wasp which I own. Not a fan of the Arturia sound to be honest. I can understand its appeal, but to me sounds too processed. I love the filter on the Wasp and its ability to process external sounds.Great review, thanks for sharing :).
Cool vid, cheers! Minibrute is one of my fav synths - it’s not new & cool anymore but I think it’s already proving that it’ll stand the test of time as a great instrument. I agree that there’s just something about it that makes you want to play it, something physical. The keybed is awesome - have you looked under the keys? They’re metal under there, this thing is properly built :-D Also, it just sounds so ...organic. The only downside is that it takes forever to warm up, but hey proper analog and all that :-)
Ok, so it's my day of daring to ask for comparisons I'd like to see. If you ever got a Arturia Minibrute 2 keyboard version I would love to see it compared to Moog Grandmother. It's another case of two synths that are very comparable but one is about half the price. I'd love a musical comparison as possible so we can hear a range of typical bass lines, arp lines, sequenced melodies, and played lines. I find the many possibilities on my Minibrute 2 not to be very musical and would like to maybe replace by Grandmother when I have the money. I already know I prefer the way modulation is implemented on the Grandmother but that's little to do with the sound
Mark Bessey I only hear any noise when the diode Fet boost is cranked up over 75%, only very little this is through the headphone output not tried the other output at loud volumes yet!
I get a fair bit with the gain circuit cranked up, but nothing to worry about when it’s turned down. It’s a bit noisier than my other synths - but not to a degree that it annoys me. I see it as part of its charm and added texture. It’s definitely not clean!
we don't have the old Minibrute from this video anymore in Europe, the Minibrute 2 is €440, Microbrute ist 280 or 230 for the limited edition (lol?) - not a big difference (though we have about 20% value added tax included in those prices)
I stumbled across this video while searching for Stylophone Gen R8 reviews. As a long time Minibrute user I have to say that while it doesn't have the raw, dirty raunchiness of Gen R8, it still offers a lot (in many ways more) and get you to places Gen R8 can't. I was about to ditch my broken Minibrute, but after watching this I might try to fix it. I'd love to get my hands on Gen R8, but I've read bad things about build quality and less than stellar tuning. The Minibrute's build quality is awful and I don't want another synth for which there is no technical support anymore. Can you comment on Gen R8 build quality and tuning? Thanks.
12db filters CAN be self-resonant. And actually all arturia synths have 12 db self-resonant filters (minibrute, microbrute and microfreak are all 12db self-resonant filters. Matrixbrute has 12db AND 24db self-resonant filters). Still, great video, as always on this chanel.
Aaargh... I know - :) slip of the tongue I’m afraid on my previous WASP video. I was thinking SEM so not idea why it came out as 12 dB !!! The style phone genr8 is 12 dB and insanely resonant!! I was attempting to explain the error here
I'm more into the Brute (I own a Micro and it's awesome.) You should have chosen it instead of the Mini because the Micro is ~300€ brand new and it might be even more unusual than the Mini. Nice comparison/fight for these synths !!!
You can patch the lfo into the pwm on the Gen r-8
Aaargh... of course. I missed that. Pinned, thanks.
@@StarskyCarr You did it I think in your original demo :)

WASP is the sexiest of the three... I love the way it looks, and it has a vicious growl
A delectation of gnarliness. Impressive work Starsky.

Let me know what you think of it.
I'm still pimping the bs2, the last 2 updates take it from a perfect intro to subtractive synthesis into way more experimental territory
Wow, at 17:40 that does sound cool on random with the osc's off!
I love my Minibrute. Very gnarly expressive synth.
The Gen R8 is awesome as well. I'll probably get one eventually.
Wasp sounds a little more restrained, but refined at the same time.. Also the knobs don't wobble like they do on the Gen-R8...

thank you claire, much appreciated.
I'll take all three.
I vote for the Stylophone 😊
Me too!
Olivier Renoir very powerful synt, to bad this year, I’m going to get a Poly instead of a mono
If only have a minibrute what else do I need to operate a wasp?

Mini/microbrute will always be cool
10:34 HOLY SHIT!

If you hold the glide button down on the Stylophone, can you fully control the microtonal portamento, or does it still quantize?
How's the noise level on your Gen R-8? Mine's pretty audible, even when it's not playing any notes.
Mark Bessey I only hear any noise when the diode Fet boost is cranked up over 75%, only very little this is through the headphone output not tried the other output at loud volumes yet!

The Microbrute (at least here in the states) is at the $300 mark. The minibrute is about $450.

I picked up a used Minibrute for $250 on Reverb. Great deal.
The Minibrute hasn't been on sale for 2 years or so. The Minibrute 2 has recently dropped from £599 to around £399 (same for the 2s).
Thanks for the info. I picked that one up for £300 a few years back, I think they’re even cheaper used these days. Cheers :)
I just got mine new in August... do you mean they aren’t being manufactured anymore?
that's it. this video earned you a subscription xD
cant find the stylophone on Thoman or Musicstore
they can't keep up with the demand, we will have to wait.

I've still got them both.
I really like the Wasp but those ports on the top bug the hell out of me.
BUG
I would like to see a comparison between the Wasp deluxe and its closest relation on the market, theMicrofreak.

You sound a bit like Phil Schiller 😄 ! Great video and nice synths, thanks for sharing this! 👍
Dave Lister :)
I was thinking Geezer Butler
Wow what a video!!
The minibrute does really sound massive for a single oscillator synth.. Wow
The Wasp sounds most pleasant here
✨👍✨
Wait what minibrute has a sequencer? I own one for a half year and I didn't know that. There are only rumors about that on Arturia's forum.
Yes, just download the app and you can change from arp to sequencer
Gen R8 firmware update coming :)
a unique synthesizer for three hundred $ that I'd recommend is the "Korg monologue" for me.. mines my baby!🎹🎧💫😵👌👶👍✌
Yeah, can’t argue with that. I’ve got one myself, and will feature it in another video showing some great value bargains.
@@StarskyCarr thank you!🙏🎹🎧💫😵👌👍✋✌
If you want a unique analog synth UNDER £100, you can pick up an Akai Timbre Wolf. I just got one for $110 (£84) and $15 shipping (£11.50).
wow..score!
Come back in two weeks and give an honest review. There is a reason for that price, but if you can tease a usable tone from it, then good on ya!
ADHD Synth I see your comments everywhere haha is it worth a listen?
