Most of the stuff Colin does can be done by hand, it just takes much longer.

Not really any more than a regular umbrella. Regular umbrella's already have metal support structures, the amount of metal you have has way less effect than how high the top is.

steam is from the hot metal I think, so it's probably alright
Makes alot of steam, i cant remember right but a cubic foot of water would produce something over 1000 cubic feet of steam if I'm remembering right

i remember i stayed at gfs house once and fell asleep in front of the gas heater with the door shut (i believe it was vented, it was a proper install), got up some hours later to use the loo, near enough passed out when i stood up, i kinda guessed it was the fire using up pretty much all the oxygen in the room?
Maybe not exactly the best thing to take out in a THUNDERstorm, but hey, there you are!

As if a regular umbrella is any better
I think it’s even better than a real umbrella, because umbrellas often have a metal tip. On the tip of spiky objects the electrical field concentrates much stronger than on round objects like the umbrella in the video, thus attracting lightnings much more. That’s why lightning conductors are pointy and high voltage gear has these big metal balls.

how about instead of using a propane gas tank make a water -> hydrogen converter by electrolysis, then umbrella will collect water from rain, convert to hydrogen and oxygen then burn the fuel !

Just when i think ive seen his most mental ideas, he comes out with this.
This is an interesting concept, even though it's done a bit in jest here. I could picture this working a lot better. Aluminized fiberglass for the cloth, a smaller burner element, and make the burner as part of the umbrella sleeve mechanism so it can actually fold up. Now you've got a portable or easily stored reflective heater.
Any chance for a version 2.0 with those suggestions?
