I agree. I'm now 59 & I kept my arts w/in the family for 40 years, bcoz of the unhealthy environment among FMA practitioners in the past. I came out only last year to answer the call of one concerned master who wanted to give FMA a boost in Negros Occ., Philippines. I don't care about originality... evolved fighters like Bruce Lee are better. Even great GMs didn't claim originality... somewhere along the line they borrowed or copied something from others to make their art better. You are right!
We are all escrimadors. We should not fight over things that happened in the past. We should be united. We should now think of a way how we can share and popularize the art that was left for us by the masters especially here in the Philippines. I'm really saddened now a days because only a handful practices this art in the Philippines.
the fact that all of you griping about each other about what is and what is not FMA or particular styles is what will prevent the propogation of the art to be accepted by the global community at large. If we can't get along within our own circles of FMA, why would anyone else show respect to us?
There's a lot of similarity between Tatang's movement and Angel Cabales' escrima. Since you're a fan of Sultan Uddin, ask him; he met Tatang and confirmed it. Both GM's trained with Felicissimo Dizon, so there's the link.
Don't forget Ray Floro.
No, I don't know who you are; sorry you are so touchy. I merely pointed out that since you seem to respect Sultan Uddin, you might ask him about the similarities since he confirmed this himself with Tatang, as he's told me. I never said they are the same system, but have common elements. As for me, I met Tatang in Cebu and Manila, but I'm not in his system. I merely trained privately with Angel Cabales for six years and know most of his master students directly by training with them. You?
All great men converge into the path of greatness...whether they transcend from two different ends of the spectrum, they still come together in the middle and walk the same path.
To all laymen fighters, Any regular Joe has no chance of withstanding a full FMA barrage much less live to tell the tale, though Tatang and his fluidity and GM Angel and his fluidity came through...in the end, they realized their fortes in their styles and taught it to the world...they didn't care for lineage.
There really is a resemblance, because escrima in one point in the Philippine's history was being practiced by everyone until the spaniards made it illegal to practice the said art. If you are going to observe the old escrimadors they walk, they talk and fight the same. Now a days the art is not as pure as it should be because the art now is being inserted by techniques from other forms of martial or fighting arts.
There is so much similarity between Tatang's movement and that of Angel Cabales! It looks so familiar when I see this; I wish I'd known more about the common points in their background (particularly Dizon) when I met Ilustrisimo.
Hmm. That's why GM Vicente Carin was so interested in my training in 1989. That's why Gen. Fabian Ver's former bodyguard was "shocked" to see "such an advanced system being practiced in the U.S." These guys didn't think Serrada was a joke. If you don't think it works go to Stockton, where Angel lived, and try any of his many students there. They're always happy to demonstrate to doubters.
I read these comments and I can't believe how little people knew of this great man.
Wow! Great skills! A Great Grand Master!
Very good words.
I agree 100%
Hi, nice to see you here! I feel bad reading the comments of some where they throw insults at each other. Real masters should master not only their arts, but also their emotions & tongues. I met several aging masters & octogenarian GMs in our province, but I never heard them use foul language against their fellow FMA practitioners. You can see how they were taught by their own teachers. How we behave reflects the kind of arts & discipline that we represent. Real masters are few nowadays.....
Ayuh Yan I dol
The one, the only ! ! Grandmaster Antonio "Tatang" Ilustrisimo .
in fact all the fma grandmasters like tatang illustrissimo, vicente carin ,timoteo maranga, benjamin luna lema and others use their systems against japanese soldiers in ww2 and kill them.and you see they survived the ww2 and fma was their tool.
Its how you master the art.
Tatang had one of the last duels. Kris and barong.🇦🇺
