This is a tutorial on how to make the awesome lead synth from Zomboy - Nuclear. It's almost exactly the same sound, and the method shown here may very well be the method Zomboy himself used :3
No presets guys. If you can't follow the tutorial (it's very simple), then you need to see a doctor :P
Enjoy :D

I forgot to show it, but I did cut the lows in order to add my own sub bass. And I know there's a different patch for the harmony, but I'm lazy :P
best replication I've ever heard.
damn son, you go hard in the FL.
Out of all the remakes of all the songs in history, this one, sounds the closest to the song your trying to recreate 0.0 good job pro, subbed.
I'll be honest with you, at first I did 'acquire' my production tools. The only hardware I had was an M-Audio USB audio interface and some Sony earbuds to work with, but as I'm getting into music more seriously (and as I'm getting more money), I'm slowly 'legalizing' my collection of stuff, purchasing licences for the VSTs I have, etc.
I don't like to pirate, but I just couldn't afford it. I will eventually buy everything I use though, mark that :D
I actually like your version better :D
bomis181094 Lol
True. :p
This is the best remake i've ever heard of, you sir, are a genius!!
5:07 thank you so much for that that has helped in so many songs
wow dude thats one of the best and most accurate remakes of a dubstep track i've ever heard
that oldschool massive synth is just too gooood
"You don't have to .. but just looks better." Lmao, made my day! Great tutorial, great result, perfect!
If your using Logic Pro, Edit the pitch bend by going into your Note Editor, clicking "view", "MIDI Draw", then "Pitch Bend". You then draw in pitch bend by using "Cmd+Click".
***** For the people who are USING Logic, then follow his steps. Read...
Jesus Christ! Closest recreation I've ever heard... of anything... period. Kudos!
You are amazing, I've learned so many new techniques just from watching you tweak stuff.
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL MISTER.
THANK YOU FOR THIS TUTORIAL I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS.
Thanks you so much guys, it's exactly the sound i search since 3 month ago !!!
Great job !
Thank you much for this. Great tutorial. Very easy to follow and my result is great! Will definitely use the sound in projects. Thanks, Jaymac!
There are alot of remakes where they don't sound much alike, but this...absolutely stunning, I have never seen such an accurate remake before
You have the best tutorials dude, thanks a ton. You know your stuff well. Best of luck!
Whoa, that was quick! I wasn't expecting any views in the first week let alone the first couple of hours O.O
Yeah the growls were a bit tricky to figure out, but I guess I'll make a tutorial on them too :)
It's a pretty involved process so it will take a while, but it's coming, so hold on ;)
And thanks for the sub ^-^
Hahaha yeah I was a bit sick and dehydrated when I made this XD
HOLY SHIT, This is by far the best tutorial for that lead sound that I've seen
Really great tut!
best video on youtube for this leads man ! big up
i looove these old skrillex/zomboy/etc LEADS! and they come back again
This is AMAZING. You are amazing. such a great job.
aesome tutorial man, i always wanted this sound
Dude this is spot on.. Good stuff!
wow this is spot on,can't say that for much tutorials on youtube good job.
Your growls were even better than Zomboy's in my opinion, nice job! Thanks so much!
Really great one, thanks, keep doing this kind of videos :)
Your version was incredible :D Thank you for this!
sounds pretty solid man! Mid basses sound awesome too, a tutorial on those would be epic as well ;)
Wow, that was bang on the sound. Nice one.
good job mate, keep doin' it by this way !
This is such a good tutorial man! Plenty tips to pick up in automation terms aswell, cheers :)
Best EQing ive ever heard :D thumbs up!
Excellent tutorial!!
Sounds great man! Thank you!
learned very much from this video man! thank you
Dude!!! This is great!!! You really recreated whole song! Can you do another tutorial about bass sounds in this song?
Fat respect, that you made a 1:1 copy. It must be very heavy.
lol pretty close to the original he says... i honestly rolled my eyes because i thought you used zomboys actual track to show what sound you were going to attempt to be making. bravo. and on fruity loops. very nice
awesome tutorial! thank u
this is amazing! how the hell did you figure these sounds out? please make a tutorial on the growl in the intro of every 8 bars. that sounds sick
wow man that is a really fucking good remake you made there
Also I tried this in Ableton, and the automation works fine "if you are using 9 for the curves"
I don't have a separate harmony patch, as I just played the harmony in the same instance of massive, but in Zomboy's track I believe it's just a square and saw wave together. Well, that's what it sounds like at least :P
Thanks, you music is the best :D
woah man the growls are spot on!!!!
I honestly thought that you was playing the song at the beginning, you are the shiz!
Completely true. The average human ear cannot completely hear pure sine frequencies. Often in tracks, if they use pure sine, you can feel the bass through monitors or headphones, but cannot hear the key it is played in. Dodge and Fuski, Kill Paris, and many other artists use the same technique that you do in order for the bass to be richer and more audible.
Great tutorial, thank you!
Judgeing on the mp3 track through the yt compression. YOUR SOUND was even better clearer than that of the mp3.
when you compared your's to Zomboy's i thought your growl before the lead sounded better than his. can you do a tutorial on the growl?
dude this tut is quick and great!! and you should make a tut on that on one sound before the lead.
You mean the tremolo sounding lead-ish thing? I believe it's just an LFO on the volume of the lead sound. Also, turning up the amp of the second oscillator leads (heh) to a dirtier sound. I mapped this, and an LFO to macro knobs in Massive and automated them to get that effect, but I didn't show it in the tutorial. Sorry, I was trippin' thinking I'd gone over the 10 minute limit of UA-cam vids XD
Damn, I'd never guess this lead is so easy! Many thanks!
Damn you are one hell of a sound designer!
jesus fucking christ, how are you not famous yet? that beginning sample was incredible. I thought it was gooing to be a shitty replica of a famous lead like every other tutorial on youtube but jesus christ that was good.
HopDubstep Just go to arrangement view and then any effects like modulation that you have activated will show on a dropdown menu under Massive to the right of the screen. When you click on the right modulation you will see a line appear and just move that line how you want to auto-modulate.
great tutorial mate
awesome tutorial man, very helpful, I almost had this sound down before having to look it up. I was just making a simple mistake on my end ha. cheers. a bit of added info. might help one or two people, if you have a midi keyboard that's got the mod wheel or 'modulation' wheel to use that to activate the vibrato effect simply right click on the macro control you are using, so the one labeled 'vibrato' and click on midi learn. that will enable you to use your mod wheel to get the vibrato effect. to turn it off do the same again but instead of midi learn click remove midi CC. cheers again man :)
Wow, very nice! Subbed for sure, please keep it up! Thanks for sharing
Man,you're new Zomboy!
DUDE THANK YOU
Wow! You're really good! I think you deserve to be subbed, sir ^^
nice tut. like this!
That's the creative part of it; your job :p
Thanks a lot, amazing :D!
your version is so much better! WHOOO!
OMG How i did not know i could do that Knob Tweaking Clip just like that before!!! THANKS
Amazing.
Damn, so impressive! THANKS ALOT
I use the + and - buttons on the numpad, which switches up and down a pattern, respectively.
thanks for this, helped!
I love you.
You've helped us alot ! :))))))
love it
unchecked a box when i reinstalled it. Works fine. Thanks anyway. Bad ass tutorial, man
I'll keep that in mind when I make the next tutorial ;)
this is gold
great tut thanks :)
this is EXACT! :D
Just OMG, we need the fkn flp :D awesome dude!!
THANK YOU!
Firstly, great tutorial! Secondly; how do you switch so quickly between the lead and the lead harmony in the piano roll?
Double right click on the ghost notes
Yeah, your subbass should always have a little buzz in it, even if you can't hear it when the whole song is playing.
this is realy good! do you make the wobble basses by your self? :)
Dude! Can you do a video to how to make the piano for this song? I mean, the piano that sounds in the lead part of the song? Thanks a lot! (:
God damn dude, one of the closest remakes I've ever heard.
Nice video. Thank you! :)
best ever
for some reason my pitch bend isnt as fast and deap as yours. I change the total range to 12 or 24 but it never goes to the same deepness (pitch) as yours how do i fix this?
Made me think about 'hi this is seamless' !
Awesome man, a full version of your remake?
Thanks a lot ! :DD
Good quick and concise tutorial. It would be helpful if you would play a little bit between changing parameters in massive, so we can hear what each change does to the sound.
awesome! + sub (very cool coocker bass)
Terrific tutorial! I've noticed that a handful of the sounds from tutorials don't seem to work on my computer. I don't know if I have a problem with my soundcard or I missed a step. That is where a preset would be helpful, because then I could eliminate whether it is an issue with my soundcard or I missed a step, although I think this was a surprisingly simple tutorial, so I don't think I missed a step.
+Tyler Smith Nevermind. I must have missed something the first time. I figured it out. Great tutorial!
