Watch his "How to Bass" tutorial series, he's an FM bass expert ;)

Here's another tutorial as promised. This time, filthy growl bass :D
I teach how to make the bass drop from Zomboy - Nuclear, using Massive, Sytrus (or FM8), and EQ automation.
I was a bit hesitant to release this Massive patch out here on the internet, as even though it's relatively simple, it is close to my heart XD
If you use this Massive patch in any of your songs, be sure to credit me please; that's all I ask :)
Thanks for watching :)

Give a man a bass drop and he will drop the bass for a day
Teach a man to drop the bass and he will drop the bass for a lifetime!
Keep up the great work!
Simply one of the best Growl bass tutorial(maybe the best) on you tube !!
Perfect work dude !! BRAVO :D
Man, you are a god among men.
I normally hate watching Tutorials because they're hard to follow but you mapped out exactly what you did with percentages and everything so I didn't have to guess what you were setting knobs at plus you did it in a way so as not dumb it down too much.
Excellent work.
Dude you're actually really amazing at tutorials. Not only are you good at tutorials but you're amazing at making music! That beat was mixed and mastered so well!
Hey JayMac, I really love your tutorials, your tutorials are more better. Keep up the hardwork. Peace.
Preview of the sound = instant sub. That sounded awesome, and very professional!
I love your videos dude, all the little things I learn along the way are more rewarding than the actual sound.
Wow man. been looking for something like this. That was an amazing tutorial. thank you!
the whole eeyaaah eq thing is extremely clever man :D! very nice tutorial btw
Subscribed instantly when he said he would remake it, everybody else just tells us just to copy because there lazy and don't want to explain anything. Thank you for making this a tutorial not just making it a giveaway
love your tutorials :D THANKS!
Yeah, it's a 'custom' patch I made, influenced heavily by Seamless' patches he shows in his tutorials. You can either copy down what I did in Sytrus in this vid, or check out Seamless (I recommend Seamless) XD. He makes some good stuff!
I might do an FM8 bass tutorial when I get the time :P
its just unbelieveble, i think i can spend all my life using NI MASSIVE but i will never repeat this sounds, like you did it) thank you very much!!!
great tutorial man! even i as a massive noob/newb can understand what im actually doing, i learned a lot from this! thanks again man
Holy mother of complicated sounds! However, GREAT job on this tutorial, I look forward to more :)
Thanx Buddy, you gave me a lot of inspiration to create more squelchy basses!
using your own voice and studying the freq analyzer? BRILLIANT! please do more vids man, subbed for sure!
Thank you very much i have been trying to find out how to create this sound for a long time now.
Top notch sir! Would love to see more tutorials!
Although the subtle nuances between DAWs sometimes make things hard, a close approximation of this can be made in any DAW.
FM8 is a good substitute for Sytrus, and any parametric EQ will do in place of P.EQ 2.
In Ableton (the DAW I use now), I use EQ 8 and FM8 for a lot of things :)
Dudemanbro, this is fucking awesome. I'd love to see a whole video series based on growls like Seamless does.
Amazing tutorial, very in depth and clear.
HOLY SHIT O_O MAN WHERE DID YOU LEARN ALL THAT STUFF! it's great and above all IT WORKS FOR REAL! thank you very much :')
sounds great thanks so much for the help!
That's it, I had to subscribe.
Awesome tutorials, awesome music, and colored horse music.
Cheers!
16:10 Awesome. Experimenting, losing yourself for music. That is the spirit!!
much appreciated, my dude. you kick some serious ass
Another great tutorial! These are way better tut's than dubspot or any other so called "pro" "sound desingers" tutorials :)
Haha you really know your stuff! Thanks for this awesome tut :)
Best zomboy synth tut online!
It's.....it's.. just so beautiful :') Jay Mac you're a 10/10.
Dude!! Not fairrrr!!! It sounds just like Zomboy!
WHY AREN'T YOU A POPULAR DJ?!!!! YOU TOTALLY COOUUULLLLDD!!
If you go on massive, and make a crude wobble and then use this EQing method you will basically make D-Jahsta's signature wobble. Thanks Jaymac you genius :)
You are awesome , subbed
14000 subs, 80000 views, a Criminally underrated youtube channel
Google automation in Ableton Live. Live's uses a unified automation system, that is, it is the same for every plugin and VST. I find it much more efficient and easier to map all the parameters I want to automate to a macro knob and automate that.
All this information is available on the Ableton support website and lying around on Google :)
Sytrus can be substituted with any FM synth that utilizes a matrix to modulate operators. I don't know much about logic, but I know it supports VSTs, so the Mac version of FM8 would work. You can also use any EQ that has automatable parametric capabilities, i.e. can change the frequency of bands using automation. I am of the belief that Logic's default channel EQ can do this.
Dude, you like recreated Nuclear wtf. Thats amazing.
Great tutorial! Just one thing I discovered when recreating it: If you press your shift key while assigning the macro (or LFO, Env. etc.), you can assign it to more than one parameter, so you don't have to go back everytime and drag it again. ;)
Haha... I like to read as much as I can instead of sifting through stuff... I learn more that way :D
Yes, it's an audio effect rack. I start with placing plugins directly onto the effect strip, and grouping plugins into them automatically by selecting all the plugins I want to group in the effect strip (using Shift + click), and pressing CTRL + G or CMD + G
very cool man!!
awesome tut
Your awesome! Thanks man
Yeah, Tomb's incredible
awesome! thanks for this!
Love it!
Go to Misc tab of sytrus channel settings, and activate Mono + adjust slide knob to desired time :)
Dubstep Dishwasher :D
great tutorial
i did exactly what you did but yours sounds more badass xD
Awsome tutorial, oh people if you dont get the sound after you finished doing the tutorial, go back to massive and turn the MACRO1 nob( WUB) or um, just mess with everything till you get your original sound.. AWSOME TUTORIAL THOUGH.
I wish for a long time to get this song so Big Thanks + Big kiss !
I knew he'd reference SeamlessR, I've learned a lot from that dudes tutorials but I've forgotten most of it lol. You can check me out at soundcloud/immobile. I've used a few modified versions of his patches but def check him out he explains stuff really well!
BIG FUCKING UPS! been waitin a while for someone to figure dis shit out :) gracias
0:20 I see that song in the corner :D. Living Tombstone FTW!!!
that song is awesome
U are Amazing THANKYOU!!
love the way you say "hiya" lol
nice tutorial anyway
Check the description ;)
So awesome :3
I love you men you teach how to do the best growl for me of the dusbtep music
Hey Jay, can you please make a tutorial on how to do the mixing for the growl, specifically for the camelphat 3, sausage fattener, and the izotope ozone 5. I really appreciate it. This is probably the best growl on youtube so far! Keep up the great work
this was really in-depth, awesome tutorial. Do you think you could point out the difference between this growl and say...Krewella or Adventure Club's growl?
omgomgogm... it's Blaze! And he's here O.O
Your preview is fucking awesome!!! I wanna download this song.
Normally when people laugh at themselves in videos I think they're idiots (like when you laughed at the name of your patch). Today, however, after watching all your tutorials I feel like we are family and I laughed with you.
Dude you can make awesome remixes.
thank
very much for tutorial
19:09 amazing!
This is sick. How bout his drop from terror squad? Probably similar process as this?
I might do a video on this
Hmm, haven't heard of this one before. Does it give any errors? What about if you disable your sounds device first? Is your FL cracked?
thank you sir
Double-click in an empty space (in the background) of FL, and it'll come up with a file chooser. Browse to the background image you desire, and select it :)
thanks so much)
Nice video! By the way, how do you record internal sound and your voice at the same time?
I have an external sound card - Komplete Audio 6 - that I'm using to route things between XSplit and Ableton Live.
Thank you SO MUCH! Subbing & liking!
Wow! a.i wavetable is awesome.
YO! Thanks! :)
Can you teach us how to make those snappy snares? Great sounds!
in the future, can you preview your sounds as you go so people can compare?
Could you do a tutorial on the drill kinda lead/synth thing that comes directly after the bass you demonstrated in this video?
ayyy the living tombstone
I must tell u that I was listening to this tutorial on my phone and hasn't looked at the screen but when I heard the example I had to double check if the loop was a sample from the real song it sounded really close good job man and the second growl te talking one u got the sound exactly but I think the LFO or filter rate is a cunthair to quick could u do a tutorial on the second growl?
Hi jaymac can you please do a tutorial on how to make Rogue like growl like the one in the song called Dream ft Laura Brehm
Since I made this in FL Studio 11, you might need to update to that. You won't regret it, FL 11 is great 8D
Thank you O3O
Can you make a tutorial on that laser synth after the growl?
Pitch bend at +12 semitones up and -12 semitones down. There isn't any other automation that I'm aware of.
nice ;3
Wow JayMac very nice.
im 7:47 into the video just after you played back the sound, i have the initial sound, but it did not drop down
it stays a constant sound. Suggestions???
Trying to automate the macro controller, not exactly sure how to do it, I know if you right click it for the other plugins it comes with the option to create an automation clip, but I Dont see that on massive... :c
The easiest way to do this is to use the 'Multilink to controller' function in FL Studio. The FL Studio Manual goes into detail on how to do this, just press F1 while in FL and search for Multilink to Controller.
Awesome, I got it now, and learned something new in the process. Thanks a lot! C:
for ableton users like me just use FM8 for the sytrus parts theyre basically the same thing.
Sytrus is available in VST format as well, I use it now in Live.
Omg hi lol!
***** Just ignore me a year ago, i didn't know what i was talking about.
lol we all regret what we have said a year ago
How do you create a automation clip for the macro thing, you can't just right click and click create automation clip...
Thanks for this ! How did you get this snare sound ?
I just EQ'd the Vengeance Dubstep Snare 001 :)
Thank you for the heads up before the loud as fuck growl sound. I hit like just for that
Sam, he using FL Studio, but in other videos he uses Ableton. I recommend FL Studio, but Ableton is ok to, I think FL gives more space for creativity, just an opinion. Also Fl Studio is currently version 11 (FL 11), but FL 12 looks epic!
oh jeez, I totally didn't see the macro knob button on the left side that I needed to click..I was confused up until then because my audio effect rack looked nothing like yours. it does now, though! although, I'm still having trouble mapping eq8 to a macro knob. I'm reading Live's manual and its telling me what to do, but I can't get it for whatever reason
u are fckng amazing
