  • A Tennis Foot Fault is a very rare occurrence in the Professional Tour but always called but in league play it is rarely called and happens a lot. Why???
Thank you Coach Rob for showing us how not to foot fault.

At the rec level, unless the guy is running to the service line and hitting, I couldn’t care less. I mean, most foot faulters don’t have a great serve anyway so I should be able to deal with a guy who puts one foot into court on the serve…if not, I need to play better.

Calling foot faults always struck me as sorta similar to claiming the point when your opponent catches a flying ball that's obviously out by a mile. The rule exists for a reason, especially at the pro level, but if you're a weekend hacker using the rules in that way, you're probably a vaguely unpleasant person I don't really want to play much tennis with.

And if you are doing those things in a game where those things are against the rules, then I’d call you an unpleasant person because you have little regard for the traditions and rules of the game. Clean up your tennis game and follow the rules or don’t play on the same court as me.

Calling a foot fault is not “jacking up everyone’s serve”. What’s causing the problem is the guy foot faulting.

I don't have time right now to look up the page/section, but I think that in a match without umpires/officials calling lines, a player should/must warn their opponent before calling the FF? I'm sure I read that somewhere in a USTA publication.

I am not sure if jumping inside the court before strike the ball, is in spirit at least, breaking the foot fault rule? The point of the rule is to prevent the server taking time away from the receiver by shortening the distance. So by leaping half a metre into the court before striking the ball whilst in the air should also be breaking the rule but according to the letter of the rule that is ok.

We not two steps in the court because of foot faults but because of how fast we get into the playing area.

If Serena Williams does not know what a foot fault is, how can you expect weekend warriors to know? 😅

Why is it if the balls touches the line it’s good but the foot touches it’s a fault? I don’t see any advantage to touching the line. Now touching the blue or green part of the court sure.

At 4:30 you say it’s ok to cross the center hash as long as you move your foot before striking the ball. This is incorrect. The rule says you can’t break the imaginary extension of the center line or appropriate sideline during your “service motion.” Service motion includes the initial set up. Even if your a pinpoint stance server who slides his rear foot clear of the center mark before striking the ball it’s still a foot fault. In the match John Isner should have been called for foot faulting. There’s a video of Kygrios being called for just such a foot fault at Wimbledon. You should post a correction video. This video will probably lead to a lot of fights between those who watch it and those who actually know the rule.

You can't start your motion with your back foot touching the mid-line. That's a foot fault. I've seen some pros get very close to touching it and are really making the refs work to make a judgement. Of course, the call should be made electronically so that no human should be involved. At the rec level, a lot of ppl foot faults and I have a big problem with it. So in general, I stay away from playing matches with these ppl. (I might hit with them though.) Especially when I see pinpoint stance players. Just about all of them foot fault. If you disregard foot faulting, then you are picking and choosing what rules to follow and that's wrong. If you don't follow the rules, then you are not playing tennis but some other abomination.

Edberg style foot fault (trailing foot occasionally biting about 1-1.5 inches on the line when brought forward) or "giant step for mankind" both feet well past the line into the court style of foot fault? 🤔

This video’s existence is evidence that tennis at the rec level is not really a serious sport on par with others. The most basic of rules gets violated often and by many. Do basketball players have trouble staying behind the free throw on a foul shot? Their observation that a lot of people don’t really care about foot faulting is evidence that many people who play tennis don’t have “Athletic” backgrounds and treat tennis like a game not a sport.

Can your opponent call you foot fault in a singles match?

    • @hleaf
      @hleaf 2 роки тому +2

The USTA language is "The receiver or the receiver’s partner may call foot faults only after all
reasonable efforts, such as warning the server and attempting to get an official to the court,
have failed and the foot fault is so flagrant as to be clearly perceptible from the receiver’s side." Most players take that to mean that you don't really call foot faults (especially in rec/amateur matches) unless they are just incredibly over the top.
