Try to checking the pcv Valve and throttle position sensor also while the truck is running spray starter fluid around the intake plenum and if the idle raises you have a leak
its not the timeing,,,,it would back fire if it was that,,,did you remove plenum and the replace gaskets ,and clean the inside of plenum lots of carbon build up in there .Did you look up the code 18? You should that will point to the problem .
Similar thing on my Bronco ll. Won't hold idle to pass smog. Looking into what emission control parts would help: Throttle position sensor, IAC or idler control valve, EGR valve, O2 sensor besides checking timing and air filter. Also clean all areas if replacing parts with throttle body air intake cleaner. I'm going to replace all little by little since even if the parts are OK it will be preventive maintenance. In my Bronco ll case it was sitting for 5 years also. Changed the fuel in the tank and eventually replace all fluids probably fuel filter also.
Check an see if there is a hidden fuel filter inside a black plastic fuel housing inside the frame rail between the fuel tank and the in-line pressure fuel pump. It has 4 fuel line ports, Use a band type (oil filter) wrench being careful not to break the black plastic bowl unscrewing it. The filter inside is 1 1/2" tall by 2 3/4" across. I had to slightly bend my brake-line out of the way.
ruffy ruffy thank you for the suggestion I've already fix the problem there's no fuel filter in my multipurpose canister but it turned out to be that the fusible link for the heater of the oxygen sensor was bad
Your descrip and the video is almost identical to my Ranger running glitch. If I shut it off and restart it is back to normal. Smooth, powerful then randomly it dogs out and wants to die. I will check your O2 sensor heater fusible link suggestion, thank you.
What is the sensor called that is mounted on the right front side( if standing in front of truck) of intake with a vaccuum line that runs back to rear of plenum .any help would be greatly appreciated thank you
I'm just wondering if you sprayed the intake with carburetor cleaner when it starts to stumble like that and see if it it's a fuel problem it could be fuel starved that's just a guess on my part good luck
What happened to the ranger? I have been searching everywhere to get a good image of the vacuum lines. And mine is having proles like yours. Can you help?
@@bewaretheclaw did yours make a tapping sound? I just did the timing and a few minutes later there was sound kinda like sticking valve or spark knock I realized and injector got unplugged but noise still there weird
@@bewaretheclaw I'm going to double check again tomorrow, it starts and revs really responsive, just a slight misfire. Do you still have you ranger? My vacuums are all over the place since I'm putting it back together from someone else
Buenas tardes quería saber que falla tenía su Ford Ranger 2.9 y como lo reparó , porque tengo uno con la misma falla sería muy amable si usted me ayudara con la falla.
well, i see in a few moments the distributor and is in a wrong angle, check the timing 10* check the spout wiring and check the timing, that is all. i´m expert for this germany machine.
What About if it’s running and it idols good but when you go to take off spots and spudders and then clears itself out when it reaches max RPM and time to ship to the next gear . I’ve replaced almost everything distributor fule injectors ,sensors Fuel lines and fuel filter from the engine to the fule tank I have also sent it to a mechanic and he can’t find the problem said he believes it a wiring problem but I didn’t want to spend the money on a maybe
back corner drivers side its small credit card sized box with a hose and a single wide connector sticking out the bottom. look on your vacuum diagram and it will lead you to it.
its on the drivers side under the cruise control i would say you can recognize it by the grey tootsie roll on the wire the wire will be blueon one side and i think green and yellow on the other ill try and make a video
Cleaned my IAC today with CRC and it dramatically helped, idles under 1000 now and doesn't jerk while accelerating no more

Does the 2.9 have a little ruff idle by nature? This is my second one and I also had a 3.0. They seem to idle a little ruff at idle ?
Same problem mine has. Still trying to figure it out.
Map censor,on firewall ,or throttle position sensor, or idle sensor next to intake manifold, it's on of those#3 maybe vacuum leak?.

mine was the fuseable link for the oxygen sensor. ive found its actually a common problem on these

Fixed years ago was a bad fuse link in the o2 sensor heater circuit
plugs and wires. also mess with the distributor a bit. see what that helps.
mine same thing doesn't pick back up heard relays will help
jordan Taylor only if it's the Ecu relay is going out real problem is usually grounds or o2 sensor or o2 heater fuse
Where is the second video My truck has the same problem need to know what you did to fix it.
on my channel look at my videos i think its called cure to the 2.9 curse

Hello friend, my ranger 1986 its canadian and the motor parts its diferent organizated, sorry for the bad english, im mexican, i wait you answer.
I have uploaded a video showing the fuse location
did you ever figure out what was happening
Sure did fuse able link for o2 sensor was burned out
duke duckett the 02 sensor on the exhaust pipe just needs to be replaced?
Where’s your map sensor located?
back corner drivers side its small credit card sized box with a hose and a single wide connector sticking out the bottom. look on your vacuum diagram and it will lead you to it.
duke duckett okay. I’ve looked everywhere for it..
is yours an 86? 2.9? i know later they switched to a maf system
1990. 2.9 I’ve been wondering if mine has a map sensor because my truck high idles then low idles then chugs then dies
The maf is good
where is it located

I've put up a video showing fuse location
Hola
sounds cammed lol.
fix your exhaust, get the correct back pressure, then go from there.
keith it got a new exhaust in 2015 ended up being a bad oxygen heater fusible link it’s been fine for the last 5 years now
@@phantom3rdchannel , mines the same way, great vid, it showed me what i've got to do to mine. Thank you.
Time most be move
EGR isn't in the front. Back of engine by firewall.
the egr on the 2.9 is up near the front. the 2.3 has it in the back
