Im running an 86, and dealing with a hesitation problem. Replaced the throttle position sensor and it's 98% better, the hesitation is less severe. This was helpful I will replace those components as well as check the engine ground and other wire corrosion issues.
I drive an '87 Ford Ranger ... very close to yours ... 240K. One time I was changing the IAC valve and decided to start the engine for some reason. Big mistake! I nearly blew up the engine as the RPM maxed out (because air was going directly into the manifold behind the throttle plate). Thankfully, the engine survived!
Love that era of Rangers! We had an '83 & an '87 (learned to drive a manual in the '87) plus I had a '96, great trucks! You mentioned that the gas gauge doesn't work. I happened to notice that in this video the gauge went from E to F when you turned the key. My '96 never went to E when upon shut off.
One other thing is o2 sensor. Huge difference Atwell. Great video. My 86 b2 purrs like a kitten. Have changed those sensor before. Iac can be cleaned with a carbon desolving cleaner like seafoam for couple hours. There $60.00 to $80.00 to replace. Great video thou.
I caught that, lol, yeah its definitely not left handed thread,it sure messes with you when you actually encounter the real thing, one of our machines in our shop uses propane valves that are left handed thread.
Great video and great camera work,i know how to do all this,i was looking for a comparison on your idle air bypass and a little project i have going on and your images couldn't have been more helpful, no annoying music either, just a guy working on his truck, people dont realize what a pain in the ass it is to make videos like this, many times i have told myself I'm going to make a video only to say "nah, too much B.S" thanks man.
Did you have to reuse the old connector piece for the black vacuum hose on the new egr valve? Mine did not come with one and i am not able to remove the old one either.
I have a 93 explorer 4.0l. Mine doesn't stall but suddenly started running rough and loss of power. No codes. Did you ever figure yours out. I'm trying to avoid mechanics. They're charging a lot these days. These older trucks are geat, they're just in the "in between" period of diagnostics. They can be a headache sometimes.
92 ranger,428'112 miles on it had since 1996 in high school. Changed,IAC,TPS,and MAF sensor bc of codes but wound up being the computer under the glove box in the passenger side floor panel. 130$ back in 2016,fixed everything and still runs like a champ. Sometimes computers going out throw all those codes, mine lost all power as well and stalled on the interstate and about wrecked me out. Love that truck.....
I quite agree with you on this. A truck is suppose to look and work like a truck, not a 4 door station wagon truck that can't haul anything or get much work done, especially when they go and mess it up with 4 doors on it. I much PREFER a regular cab truck over a 4 door station wagon truck.

I just bought a 1987 Ford Ranger STX that needed an IAC replacement. Didn't realize how simple it would be, thanks for the video!
Something you can still work on that doesn’t need an engineering degree in electronics, nice video 👍😁

Thanks buddy I needed that.

My 93 doesn’t either
That was a thing with all Gen 1 rangers. These would go to E when shut off then go from E to whatever the fuel level is at that moment upon startup.
Had a 83 with a 2.8 and a 84 with a 2.3
@@robbierichmondtyrecop3916 that's right. Same with my '86 Mustang (2.3, 4 speed), been a minute, :)
.
Nice looking truck

That wasn’t reverse thread . It was upside down . Normal thread just gotta turn your head upside down

so mine was dying in park and neutral but after swapping the egr out it runs fairly well

When replacing these valves and sensors, did you have to disconnect the negative battery cable before replacing?

I'd love to have this truck with some white rims but I'd probably keep it stock like my fox
I own a 1988 ranger GT / 2.9L / Manual - i need a fuel filter housing and cant find one -any suggestions ? Thanks Lou
What year is this i actually want one now
I’ll try this … it’s a start . 94 ranger here . Been running good and started stalling then lost 90 % of power . Very worried

rust penetrant?
I noticed your speedometer bumping up and down. Any explanation?
Speed cable most likely. Mine does this at low speeds then at higher speeds its fine.
Did you lube your speedometer cable?
Wife did
Ford made a huge mistake not mnf these "Real 2 Door Work Trucks" Not 70 grand 4- door play toys of 2020
Couldn’t agree more. This thing is still in full service and handles every you throw at it

Is this a diesel vehicle?
Gas
Maybe put the year and engine SOMEWHERE in your info... 🤦♂️
