Thank you for the inspiration. I must tell,: from 1983-1999 I made Name- Brooches from Silverwire on the Street ( have a tutorial on my Channel) but I made , I think 100 000 of them, and for me it’s absolutely boring,to do this. But your videos bring a lot of new Ideas for me. Thank you ❤️
OMG--you have no idea how much I've needed that ring clamp! LOL - I didn't know they existed! :oD --I also had no idea how they made those small coils so perfect! THANK YOU for making this video!
Thanks for this I've been making coils and jump rings this way for years I was beginning to think that I was doing something wrong (I do wear safety glasses) but t is the easiest way. If you are a crafty type you can make oval shaped wooden 'mandrels' with small hole drilled in the round bit that fits into your drill chuck and you can make nice oval links for charm bracelets (hammer the wire first to harden).
Hi there! I am glad you found this useful. I think the number one key here is to use a drill that has an adjustable speed so you don't start fast and quickly get out of control :) Thanks for the tip on making oval shaped jump rings!
"...it's just dipped in copper for some brilliant welding reason I have no idea about." lol, that made me smile. I really liked this video. I can't believe I never thought of this before.
This is an awesome technique and I can't wait to try it!! I've been looking for some inspiration for new wire pendants I would like to make and this might be a great design option for me! Thanks so much for the education!!!!
Thanks for the show..One thing i was waiting for to see,, you cut up all the small little coils to size..Thats where i have had problems...Trying to cut same size coils..I was hoping you had a easy and fast way to cut them to size..I am still learning to bead and to use wire. So i don't make so many errors..I make little things for the kids in my family and some big ones to..lol..I do get asked to sell my little gifts..If i learn more i might..Thanks again...JRC.
Hi,check out Step 1 on this class, www.beaducation.com/online_classes/80-tornado-beads. About halfway into that step I show how to cut them up. To cut them the same size, I draw 2 lines on my left pointer finger and line the coil up to those lines and snip and cut from there. Kind of tricky, eh? Just remember, the lines you draw on your finger are likely thicker than the wire, so try working from the inside of one line to the inside of the other. Good luck!
This helped me so much. The other videos I have watched on how to coil using a drill didn't take the coil off the core wire. They had you hook the opposite end from the drill onto a fishing spinner so it could spin freely but my end that was in my drill, my core wire keeps breaking. Can you give me some tips on how to stop that from happening? Thank you
I love this! I'm years late finding this video, so I don't know if anyone will answer, but what can I use if I don't have a ring clamp-which I would prefer not to have to purchase. Is there something else I can use?
Hi, This tutorial is very informative, Thank you :)... I only had one question, if my drill does not have a reverse drilling option, how shall i remove the tension in the end, before pulling out my coil?
Im an avid Wire Wrapper of all different Gems n Crystals. This was a great video! Never would have thought using a drill to coil wire! i have a hand corded dremel and a bench grinder with flux shaft, ill have to try that out. Would just Thick like 16 gauge copper wire work as the host for coiling? its half hard. and takes alot of force to coil a thinner wire. I Subscribed to your channel. lookin forward to future vids. Thank You! :)
Any suggestions for coiling square wire for jump rings and keeping the wire straight so they close properly? It almost looked like using a ring clamp or nylon jaw pliers might ensure it feeds on properly? Any help would be appreciated ! :-)
Hi Lance, We would recommend using a ring clamp. You can find them on our website here: www.beaducation.com/p/95-jewelry-making-tools-ring-clamp Thank you!
Excellent tutorial! TFS! Learned a lot of awesome time saving and workmanship quality tips. Anxious to get some coils made. In fact, I have an order of a boat load of wire on it's way to me, in lots of colors. How pretty that will be to use mixed metals and/or mixed colors of coiled beads and simple coiled elements for all sorts of jewelry projects. Can you tell I'm excited?! I even happen to own a ring clamp. Love all the examples of jewelry you shared in the video beginning with coil segments and coiled links, etc. Do you have a particular Pinterest board where we can see more examples of your wonderful coiling wire work?
Thanks so much Michelle! Yes, the colored wire will look great. Try twisting a few colors together and then coiling that!!!. And hey, if you haven't already, please consider subscribing to our channel to learn more :) goo.gl/XS9hu1
Ooo, yes, pre-coiling or twisting muti-colors and then coiling that, so pretty! I am a subscriber. Wish you had a coiled jewelry Pinterest board to follow.
Oh sorry, I forgot to reply to that part of your comment! We don't have a board specific for coiled jewelry but we do have lots of other pretty boards!!! www.pinterest.com/beaducation/
I used 16ga copper wire as my core wire and 20ga to coil with, WELL ! I couldn't get the coil wire off, it was sooo funny. I have to find a stiffer piece of material and try again.
Go to a welding shop and ask for TIG stainless steel rods, the best and stiffer is the alloy 316, but 308, 309 and 312 work very well. You have then in diameters 1/16, 3/32 , 1/8 and some times bigger. It's a very common stuff easy to find in most towns. Shops will accept to sell it by piece. Great advantage it do not rust. Great for making tools also. If you need thinner diameters the RC models shops have the very stiff piano string. That rust and have to be kept oiled.
For a drill you can check out your local hardware store. Lisa uses 1mm welding rod, but you can also use piano wire or any other hard wire. www.beaducation.com/online_classes/156-coiling-wire-on-a-drill
+elissette rodriguez Hi! It's called a ring clamp, and you can find them on our website: www.beaducation.com/zen_products/95-ring-clamp Have a great day!

Real Genius.!!!...
This reminds me of making rings for chainmail. However I am using a hand drill setup on a custom rig which allows me to use much thicker wire :)

Cool!
So well done! Thank you.
Great instructions
Glad it was helpful!
THANKS VERY MUCH. I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO SEE YOU MAKING THE BRACELETS YOU SHOWED BEFORE COILING WIRE. GOOD IDEAS.

Hi! Gosh I wish I could help with that but I have never coiled that way and never send a core wire break so don't know how to advise you. Sorry!
Excellent tutorial! I'd give it ten Thumbs Up but we are only allowed one. 😿
Aw thanks Gloria!
Well cool very nice

you can open and close your drill by holding the chuck and using the trigger.... way easier
excellent tip, thanks!
Brilliant!!!
Fascinating and very well presented.

You are welcome! thanks for watching!
You can get small 3-jaw chucks that will thread onto a Dremel
So nice
Awesome. Thanks so much. How do I cut the coil into smaller pieces? Do I pull it apart and cut like you did the end?
Hi, check out Step 1 on this class, www.beaducation.com/online_classes/80-tornado-beads. About halfway into that step I show how to cut them up.
Beaducation Thank u. ;)

Hi, we are here! If you don't have a clamp, you can just squeeze the wire between your fingers.
Hi, This tutorial is very informative, Thank you :)...
I only had one question, if my drill does not have a reverse drilling option, how shall i remove the tension in the end, before pulling out my coil?
You can just release the coil but beware that it will shift a bit when it is released so keep your fingers away from sharp edges.

Would this be a good technique to make chainmaille jump rings?
Hi NiennaLadyOfTears, we have several videos on making chainmaille that have specific tips and tricks: Introduction to Chainmail - Beaducation.com.
Nice hands!

I'm assuming I can get that welding rod at Lowe's, but what would I ask for, what gauge, what size, how long?
basically you want any hard wire that is the gauge you want. The length shouldn't be any longer than a foot.
I used 16ga copper wire as my core wire and 20ga to coil with, WELL ! I couldn't get the coil wire off, it was sooo funny. I have to find a stiffer piece of material and try again.
good
