Hi Frank, great tutorial! As an electronics engineer myself, couldn't have explained it any easier. If anyone has problems with it just watch it one step at a time whilst building it yourself and it will make more sense,. Its just a shame i am still struggling with the positioning of the parts in the first video, so we all have different things we struggle with!
Be patient - took me forever to get this one too. Had to rip it out a couple times to re position it!

@@FranklyBuilt Hey frank I don't know if you've ever had this issue. so basically I hotwired a servo getting rid of the computer bits and just a positive and negative on the motor. It's strange... I can usually turn the servo one way, but not the other when i reverse polarity. usually when I take the servo top off to expose the gears and then put it back on it does this again, moving once that not again. When I apply power when it doesn't move it shows that something is live, the gears just struggle to turn. Let me know if this ever has been an issue for you.
Dude, it is awesome that you're doing this. Most cosplayers will not release their secrets how to do the cool things like motorization because they want to own the cool factor and not share it, or put small tidbits in a book that does not really help, but gets them some small cash.
Found this video series literally 2 days ago, got the rest of the parts finished printing today for my MK3 assembled and ordered all the electronics yesterday, received only the servos today (gotta love Amazon) grabbed an old usb cable, power bank, all the crashworks parts and Houston we have lift off! I have the mask functioning and I think I’m addicted.
Your videos are by far the best I have come across not just in the 3D printing community. Very clear and concise. And overall just enjoyable to watch!
I think knowing how to control things with a breadboard is a great start. Then build from there. You can ask, "How can I do this with a component?" and build your knowledge. Laying out your circuit like you did is also a great way. Great tutorial on demonstrating basic electrical control circuits.

I can't get mine to work, the servo spins one way both limits work, the other way neither do.

@@RichardT2112 sg90, both wired direct to motor. I get reverse direction but only one switch works. Even if I pull both diagonals off it still spins

I'm building this helmet and have got to the stage of making the circuit to make it open and close. The limiter switches work when I Press them when the servos are spinning clockwise but when I switch the switch to anti clockwise the limiter switches don't work
Also having this issue right now!

I made the dual relay circuit and it works great.
It's feels crazy for me to see a servo being used for its stop ends and being controlled through relays instead of a microcontroller. Still learned lots though!! Super cool

...my only question is at 23:55, specifically, what are the small wires you are using to attach to the relay switch? 🤔 There are a few different types on Amazon...
Just any 20-22 gauge wire
@@FranklyBuilt ah, but the ones which have a female end to attach to the four pins on the relay🤔 Looks like a JST connector...
Great video, as usual! I just finished using the ALISHA system to power my own helmet. I have zero experience in this area so it tells you how easy he made it for us common folks. :)
That said, I still watched this and enjoyed the hell out of it. There is still a lot to be learned and you did a great job with your visuals and explanation. Well done and appreciated.
Also, when you make your ALISHA video, just a helpful tip - you may ALSO want to look into and talk about PENELOPE in the same breath. Depending on your power supply, it may automatically power down as a safeguard because the helmet isn’t always drawing power. PENELOPE prevents this nuisance.

So at the end of the day, the simplest but more expensive option to just open the helmet is to use the servo trigger? I'm all about simplicity. I'm excited to try!

So I connected the wiring just like you did but for some reason both limited switches on the cross wires control the same rotation side instead of one for each side. Any ideas as to why that is happening?

I know that someday, you will make this specific tutorial about the helmet's servos. Even though I'm very dumb when it comes to electronics, you explained it vey well. In my case however, I already have the right materials for the coding way (arduino) but I can't finish my moving mask cause I don't know anything about electronics nor I know about coding :(( It's been a year since I postponed my progress on that so I will just patiently wait for the part 3 of this, it is worth the wait sir!

Relays also come with under body neon and led kits too! For wireless key on/off and to connect each light all into one unit!

@franklybuilt you could use a castle creations bec and a 2s Lipo that could power all your lights and servos and the power output is complete programmable. From your input voltage down to 1v.
Hey there! You did a great job explaining the electronics, and it’s a really great tutorial. I just have 2 questions. I have 22 gauge wire and am wondering if that is good for the circuit and will work. Also, how did you connect the wires from the limiter and DPDT switches? Did you solder them? Or did you just use electrical tape. Thanks again!

Before this video I thought that this made no sense what so ever but all I needed was for someone to give me a visual display on how to set things up, and now I feel like the smartest guy in the world lol.

This video is awesome, one question though. If i were to put a reed switch in my glove, how would I run everything up to the helmet? Would i just have to hide it under a suit or is there a way to "bluetooth" it, so i can take the helmet off?

Now i get better understanding for the components. But in my opinion, will it make more simple if you just replace the dpdt switch and the limiter switch with reed switch. So the connection will just be the servo - reed switch - battery pack. But by this diagram you have to make 2 connection between the battery and the servo with different polarity connection (so each switch would control deferent rotation for the servo). And you could use the reed switch for the eye lights too just like the way you show us in this video (place the reed switch arround the chin area and the magnet at the bottom area of the mask, and another swith placed around the ears area and use the magnet from the outside). I think it would cost you a lot less money and less components. By this schematic, you would need 2 magnet (1 for the chin, 1 for the outside use), 3 reed switch (chin area, left and right ears for each rotation direction), cable, batery pack, 2 led, and a servo. But the cable management may be a bit messy.
Well this is just my personal opini. I really like your video thou.

While the eyes and Reed switch will work replacing the DPDT switch will not. You would need to add 4 Reed switches an active 2 at a time for that to work. It would be much less reliable

very helpful as I'm building my first animatronic skeleton and want to keep it low budget. But why go through the trouble of changing a servo into a simple motor, when you could just use a small motor???

Heyo, so im a new follower of your channel and looking forward to print and motorize this. I have one question, how do you connect the LED eyes? I get that the power source powers the main motorization but how do you connect the eyes to it where the eyes turn on when it closes? Is it another power source you use or..? Is there something i missed
Edit: nvm I figured it out lol. It is a different power source that you control with a reed switch or trigger(?) Switch
