    Would the horn play lower notes if i put in a lower voltage? I was wandering cuz i wanted to put 6 harmonizing horns so ive got a choir every time i press it.

    And it's the reason why I love dual tone horns.

    Nice video. Now I can make a homemade horn for my homemade car. Easy to understand.

    I love UA-cam University. I asked myself how 'ooga' horns worked then I wanted to know about modern car horns.

    Thank you for this explanation, I don't own a car but I'm working on a baby pushchair mod and I have installed a Hella horn but don't understand the wiring of a car horn, I will follow your advice and hopefully have it working. !

    Some horns are a tad different. Some horns like these Densos do ground through the mounting bracket as well as many of the older GM Delco-Remy horns, but then some require an external ground wire. Many aftermarket Fiamms require you to attach a ground wire to one of the terminals and power to the other one, usually it doesn't matter which one as they're not power conscious.

    At what frequency does it vibrate? Is it dependant on the current or the spring of the diaphragm ?
    THanks for awesome video!

    Thanks Justin, can I ask since you are an 'engine guy' is there any definitive method for testing a water pump on an engine for good flow, circulation, etc cheers sandy

    • @JustinMillerAutomotive
      @JustinMillerAutomotive  7 років тому +2

      Sandy, I wish I knew a good simple way to do this. I don't. We could think of some creative, time consuming methods, but maybe we should go back to the reason for wanting to do this test. What are the symptoms of the car you are trying to diagnose?

    • @sandyande
      @sandyande 7 років тому +1

      Justin Miller cheers Justin, the car blew its head gasket so we wondered about the efficiency of the water pump as there were coolant stains on it. We changed the pump, major hassle, but it was not the problem, so wondering about various testing methods to save a work cheers sandy

    I have a old car Horn (Seima tr8). It is only making a single tick noise. Also it is rust from the inside. What is wrong with this horn?

  • @RK-kn1ud

    I came across your video while doing some research to repair my horn...it seems that the low note stopped working. I haven't attempted a tear down yet, but do you suspect that carbon in the contacts are what is causing the failure or would you start looking at the coil?
    Thanks for your detailed explanation...it is probably the best explanation on the entire internet.

    • @JustinMillerAutomotive
      @JustinMillerAutomotive  2 роки тому +2

      I don't know the answer to that question. If you take your horn apart, let me know what you find!

    • @RK-kn1ud
      @RK-kn1ud 2 роки тому +2

      @@JustinMillerAutomotive After some thinking, I'd say it's far more likely that carbon between the contacts is the more likely of failure modes. That said, I'll inform everybody once I tackle the project in a few months.

    Using a multi meter the two contact, in continuity mode, shows about 2 3 ohm resistanze and broke the fuse, are they in short circuit?
    Thank yuo for your dimostration

    • @JustinMillerAutomotive
      @JustinMillerAutomotive  6 років тому

      If the fuse is blowing, then you have a short circuit. If it still blows when the horn is disconnected, then it is somewhere else in the circuit. If it only blows when the horn is connected, it is in the horn. The resistance of a component can change when current is flowing in the circuit, so measuring resistance is not necessarily an accurate way to test the coil in the horn.

    So basically, a car horn operates much in the same way as a school bell. The only difference is that the armature moves a diaphragm rather than a hammer.

  • @blessindia1

    Why do Japanese cars have low volume beep horns ? American cars like gm & ford have loud train like horns.

    • @JustinMillerAutomotive
      @JustinMillerAutomotive  6 років тому +4

      Because a lot of small economy cars only have one horn. Most larger or higher end cars have two horns--each at a different note--so that it sounds louder--like a train.
