    Hey, Steve here. In this video, I'll show you an approach to writing finger tapping ideas while holding chords. I aimed this lesson at those who are new to this style of finger tapping , but I think it'll be useful for those of who already know how to tap. Thanks.

    I really love how you say "and think of the notes that sound good to you". You're so right...there is no law, no rules, just what sounds good to you...love it. I tap 30 notes before I get what I like lol....and the tweaking and changing begins haha

    For those who are familiar with the 3 notes per string scale, the root note of the maj 9 chord shape is the 4th degree of the mixolodyian shape.
    Edit:
    Also, for the min 9 chord, the root note is the 5th degree of the Aeolian shape.

    Its so funny when you try to learn tapping after you have been playing guitar for a while. My right hand can have string shaped dents on the fingertips and they dont hurt a bit. But my right hand fingers hurt wildly just after a couple of minutes of trying to tap (im on my third day haha)

  • @asachava8366

    How do you get that sound?? Or tone rather? Is that from pedals or something through the computer or just the guitar? or all three? I just want my guitar to have that tone T_T

    quick question
    do i need to use a distortion pedal to get that tapping sound because I can't hear any sounds when I tap the strings on my guitar

    • @LetsTalkAboutMathRock
      @LetsTalkAboutMathRock  5 років тому +1

      I wouldn't say you need one, as you can tap with a clean tone. I think you may need to work on developing finger strength and technique, make sure the action isn't set too low on your guitar as this can choke the string when you tap meaning you won't get a strong sound or any sound. Many players after developing their technique will use a compressor pedal and perhaps some gain to help boost the signal and even out volumes a little more.
      If you watch the guitarist, Tim, during the chorus he does a lot of tapping with a pretty much clean tone.

    What would your advice be for stopping unnecesary ringing of the strings when you pull off? I'm not sure if I'm tapping the strings too hard or what but I've been finding it annoying when to sound clean. Either that or maybe I just need to work on my precision a bit more.

    • @LetsTalkAboutMathRock
      @LetsTalkAboutMathRock  6 років тому +1

      Hey. Thanks for the question. Is it right hand tapping that you are talking about? To stop ringing strings I use my left hand as a mute. Not pressing the stings with it but just enough to mute. You could always try a fret wrap too if you're not using any open strings. Hope that helps.
