Nothing better than coming back to watch Buckin’ after taking a break from UA-cam for a while. I absolutely adore this man. I don’t know him personally but the man that comes across on camera is so caring, genuine, & one of a kind. I respect almost anybody that is this comfortable with themselves.
Buckin, I maintain Wacker Jumping Jacks. WM80 2-Strokes. You just solved my Hard-Start conditions I’ve been encountering. I love everything about this channel. Thank you!
Oh Heck yeah! I have been there, There was a time it seemed I lived there. I can manage some now, I'm nowhere near GOOD, but I can manage. Thanks in no small part to you, dear Buckin', I can even sharpen a passable chain. Thank you for all the teaching you do. Best to you and the family, God Bless
Spot on, one thing that some people don’t realise is exactly what you said about running a rich low speed setting, it can limit your high speed from being able to go lean enough. Though I will open the butterfly a bit more than you did, when tuning the low, it helps you hear lean, peak and rich.
I used to ride in Moto-Cross and the rules stated that the engine must cut out when the throttle is released. So we would have to tune the low running with some throttle stop screwed in, then when all was Ok, we would have to turn that slow throttle screw all the way off. One other factor with two-strokes is that the crankcase is part of the induction system. If you run a rich idle, then the crankcase will slowly fill with some fuel and after about twenty seconds the engine will die out with a rich cut.
Very helpful- Puts a lot things together I have had to learn by trial and error. Getting a good low idle and no lag trigger has always been what I work toward. This reinforced that I am shooting for the right target. Thanks- your always fun and helpful.
Personally, it seems like the saw is running lean. In and of itself not bad. The different mufflers are changing the scavenging effects and breathing with less back pressure.
Wonderful to see this video. My brand new 462 has been dying both before and after putting a bark box on it, trying to dial in my low jet has proved tricky. Seems I need to get my idle out of the way and then maybe i can hear it race and find the right lean.

Sept 7 th, that is what i am dealin with right now. Easy on rich idel, when adjusting low. I have not heard this from anyone else, all day and here you are. 👍👍👍👍👍👍🎖️🎖️🎖️🎖️🎖️
Thank you for making these videos! I have used them a ton when rebuilding my now complete and ripping Mac 300! For a 58 year old saw it runs amazing. Now I just want to restore more Macs!
I have always struggled to get my saws running the best and never fully understood why. I now understand the low jet waaay better. Thanks a TON buckin!
Search for the UA-cam channel “Smarter Everyday” and watch his videos on how carbs work. He’s extremely intelligent and great at explaining things. It’ll help you out a lot with tuning and understanding your saws.
Awesome, thank you sir! Looking forward to putting in some work with them. Love, love, love the tuning video. Very informative if you are struggling to get those pesky screws in the right spot. Love ya brother! Thank you for the continuous positivity!!!
Glad you're feeling better. That saw sounds great after the tune. Been running a couple modded 372s I have, one has a base gasket delete and a triple ported stock muffler; stock port, one out the front thru the bracket, and one on the right side, she's loud, but runs awesome. Thanks for commenting about language at the beginning, I really appreciate it. I'll happily let my boy watch your videos again 👍.
Hi Buckin, I have found the same thing your experiencing when going from a can muffler to pipes that flow a lot of air. It can make the idle circuit a little touchy with weather/temperature changes for tuning. High jet will also be a little fat going from a can muffler to a pipe as I'm sure you already know. A replaceable insert like the one Mark has made for your Ram horn pipe and the silver pipe you show in this video is very handy for tuning the pipe to the saw it's on. Looking forward to more pipe vid's.
Going through this right now with my Chinese saw. Swapped out the muffler and I keep fighting the low to knock down the hi jet quickly but without creating chain creep. Bit of a pain in the ass, really. Never had to fight with a carb so much.
Buckin! Thanks for the informative video!! I have had the same issue several times with my 372s...thank you for clearly explaining how the L jet and idle can make such a difference for throttle response!! Great content friend, hope ya have a safe, great day!! And thanks again!
Heck yeah! I've had that with piped saws. Thankfully I figured it out but wouldn't have taken near as long if I'd seen this video a couple years ago😅 Thanks for sharing!👍🏻
ye very interesting that the muffler caused the saw to not idle. you would presume its gonna be a wicked pipe once re-tuned. when tuning i find having the low jet running wet (more fuel) gives quickest throttle response so i generally aim for that. i agree about trying to keep the idle screw as minimal as possible but it also has its place in the mix. shared between the hi, the low and the idle theres gonna be a sweet spot where all sings nicely. ill use all 3 screws to find the optimal setting and once done away you go. re-tune if necessary once the saw is up to temperature and operating in normal working conditions. a crack and a whip and away you go! 😄
I love it Buckin cause I deal with the same thing when I build a different style of pipe and put it on a saw!!!! Random question but what brand of cutting pants are these you have on???
I know this is an old video but it might be the fuel, not that it's bad or anything but I learned a long time ago when I was racing dirtbikes that if you change the pipe that sometimes, not always but sometimes you need to adjust your fuel mixture. I got a sponsorship and had to switch pipes and I fussed with my CR 125 for two days before I narrowed it down to fuel. It still ran but it just didn't run the way I wanted until I played with the mix a bit until I found the sweet spot.
Bucking I've been cutting for 20 years climbing tree service I still cannot adjust properly I want to learn so bad I watch your videos I try to catch on I do not know why I still cannot adjust I love watching this videos that you have about this I love all your videos but these ones I try to grasp because I want to learn how to adjust my saws
Hello brother , just a quick question , how good is a Pro Mac 650 , I have one that runs like a dream but needs the bar break handle cause it is broke ???????
Leaner is meaner… I have a 365 with a dual port muffler that seems to idle really really low! On a tach it says 3k but it sounds so much lower than my others at 2800-2900. I have played with it but I hate to keep tinkering cause I’m no 2 stroke mechanic.. promise.
So what would you say if you put a piped muffler mod on and it caused your saw to go a bit lean? This happened to me yesterday with my 365 special. No big deal, just crank the low out a touch and good to go, but I'm trying to understand what this means for the saw and the muffler? Good sign or bad. It definitely seems hotter now.
You know what's my problem,is the inside rail of my bar. Cuz when i let the saw pull on the cut,its cut straight. But if I push on it it curved. My sharpening is very good and you're depth gauge work fine. It must be,my bar old,I filled it straight...but think its over for that bar!?
Thanks for the great info, have a 371 that has idle issues, can't wait to try and adjust low idle. Also why do you pull starter rope when you shut your saw off?
When some saws are turned off they pull back on the starter rope putting extra wear on the starter rope or other components. Pulling the rope helps to absorb and reduce it. Thus is helps with the longevity of the starter. Hope that helps. I've only started doing it myself since Billy explained it in another video.
Honestly, I learned to tune my saws from this, UA-cam videos..so technically I guess I did learn from the best, guys with more year's of experience than I've been alive..one thing I've learned is that saws are kinda like a woman. Everyone is a little different. I turn here a tickle there..They're all just a little different. My point being, learn your saw. Just because they look the same doesn't mean the same thing works for all of em. Take your time. If you treat em right, they'll treat you right too.
hi. a think with the pipe the fumes gois easier out from the cylinder and with the can muffler the fumes can not go out so easy.needs little bit more fuel so can idle faster . then the fumes can go out.have experience this with twostroke bikes.
Unless buying premium 92 ocatine or higher, yes all gas pump gas in Canada have some level of ethanol in it. Our government here in Canada passed law on it. Gas companies are required to add it to say something like 80% of all gas they sell. Since most buy standard 87 for their cars most companies sell enough that way that they are then allowed to sell their premium with our any.
Does anyone know where I can find a clutch cover for a 2077 jonsered or a 2083 will fit also need to get my firewood saw back together just broke the clutch cover late last fall and can't find one anywhere for sale
The tune will change I’ve found from no air filter to air filter only and the cover on also. It will get real lean with the cover on, if you tuned without it

Buckin. Another great video for us to learn from. Tuning a saw is very instrumental in making the saw work as it should. Keep the content coming. ❤

Your a good dude buckin. I've learned a lot from u. Thank u
Good job buckin yes you have to tune for different mufflers
I DO remember the filing video. Great video! Thanks for sharing Billy Ray!
Great teaching video Buckin. I'm working on my chainsaw tuning but I've got a little ways to go.
Wish I had a bigger saw I been running the crap out of the lil stihl 170 I got, love learning
Tuning nightmares been there for sure especially on the low jets. Sounds like a Harley Davidson idling love it 👍👍
Awesome work buckin’! These videos are so satisfying lol

Going to tune my old Mac 300 this weekend before it’s first use since refresh so this is great!

Heck yeah I’m going through it right now on an old 064 av love working on the vintage saws. Carb problems are a pain
awesome video on the tuning very welcome indeed ,my 268 needed a wee bit tuning after muffler mod ,peace an love from scotland stu an family .
Imagine the problems we have at 8 to 10,000 feet...no humidity in our favor...but always have to be rich
Some I just have to let idle high
Another awesome video from the man!
Such great tips I would try it out now but the neighbors will probably hate me

Awesome video Buckin Billy.
Good evening buckin from the uk
Wanna do a video on tuning the high jet? And explain 4 stroking
I got pioneer w no idle screw. I swapped the carb out for one off a husky 50
Awesome video, thank you sir
bang on as usual. Thanks Uncle B
Dude Loves the Camera!
I just uploaded a video you tube wanting someone to a video on this good job cheers mate 😊
Daily video make my Buckin no matter what it it is my friend. Can't wait for Bunyan
Day
hey buckin i love that red flannel you got on if you don't mind me asking where did you get it? also i just ordered one of your t-shirts and hoodies!
My question: why is it get fat with the new exhaust?
And did it cut any better with the new exhaust? (After it was tuned).
Cheers love the channel
Intresting how it reacted to your muffler you built
Much love!!❤️❤️
When I put them big pipes on my bikes we have to rejet the carbs sometimes with free flow pipes with less back pressure
Buckin’! Can I buy your XPW from ya?? Fireman looking for a training saw. Would love to rebuild it and put it to work!
I heard that a lean idle can pose the risk of poor lubrication on a 2 stroke. Maybe that's not true but I've always ran my small 2 strokes a tad rich.
I'd be much more worried about a lean high jet
one question for you when stall a chainsaw why pull a cord a litle bit
Hello brother , just a quick question , how good is a Pro Mac 650 , I have one that runs like a dream but needs the bar break handle cause it is broke ???????

I also think the carbs are jetted too big. There’s only about 1/4 - 1/2 a turn between too lean and too rich. That window I think is a bit small
So what would you say if you put a piped muffler mod on and it caused your saw to go a bit lean? This happened to me yesterday with my 365 special. I may be seeing things but was the air filter off during most of the adjustments? Genuinely asking, not condescendingly correcting.

I keep looking on you web site I don’t see a link for the axe Handel s
Heck yea awesome video
So what was the point in another muffler
Benevolence!
Edutainment of the greatest kind. This is super interesting and helpful
Thank you Buckin. 🌲❤️🌲👊🪓
I'm wondering how does the saw not get richier tuning when buckin puts the filter and cover back on. That Is some unusual stuff.
Not saws do that friend
What happened to the indiana state police sticker?
Do they put ethanol in the gas in Canada? It has consistently given me a can of worms with my small engine carburetor stuff

Yes, wierd sometimes
At work I can here a saw running lean on low jet then I go show the boys how to adjust them
Heck Yeah
Heck Ya!
heck ya the very first day i got my 029 stihl
HECK YAAAAAAAA MAN.... those Homelite saws run soooo rich that they choke themselves with raw fuel!!
Sweet 🤙
The tune will change I’ve found from no air filter to air filter only and the cover on also.
It will get real lean with the cover on, if you tuned without it
Heck yeah
