Id add a headlamp. The kind with the floodlight front (like the one in your recent Nightbuddy video) has turned out to be pretty handy and better suited to most repairs than the brighter spotlight models for me. The folding Braughn light works fairly well here, too, but is pretty tippy unless you use the magnetic base or some other method to keep it pointed where you need light.
I think Id add some test leads for faster testing, but the Wagos lend themselves really well to that, too.

    I have a tip.
Try storing your items without the batteries installed. Keep them in a separate zip-lock bag so they can't leak in your item and ruin it. Nothing worse than trying to fix something, and have to fix something else first. Lol

Zip locks work, but if you know someone on medication the common pill bottles are handy for that, they don't let the batteries get bounced around as bad.

I think Id suck it up and buy energizer lithiums for the not-used--often-but- need-it-right-now tools. You can always swap them out for rechargeables or alkaline if youre going to be using the tool pretty extensively for a project.

Great ideas. I'm putting together an emergency electronics repair toolkit. Basic plan so far: Compact meter, cable ties, assorted wires, assorted components, solder, flux, portable soldering iron, power bank, electrical tape. Just something to keep in the car alongside my mechanic's toolkit for on-the-go fixes.

the torque screwdriver looks nice but its overkill, i would add a roll of electrical tape, one of painters tape and a marker (for tagging wires and stuff) a few feet of electical wire, a box cutter or a knife and a pair of work gloves

I've been assembling something similar, mostly with Klein and HF tools. I had the Quinn torque screwdriver in my cart with the last 25% coupon but told myself I really didn't NEED it. I forgot all about the electrical uses! I have the Doyle insulated screwdrivers because they were one of the few that include an ECX insulated model. I also have electricians scissors (Quinn right now) but now that I have a few pair of nice diagonal cutters, they may not be necessary.

Roll of tape and cable ties. Electricians scissors.

The Quinn electrician scissors are quite good and pretty inexpensive. Ive switched to the higher end 3m electrical tape for the most part; but some cheaper tape in multiple colors is handy for making quickie labels.

I hate those doctor-type bags (that's what I call that shape). They are hard to close, they never close fast enough, frequently have zipper pronblems and a lot of space is wasted by design. I'd rather have a good old fashioned rectangle type (again, what I call them!) any day, but they are so hard to find today!

Hello, Was going to start this off in a different way ( YET ) You seemed to be set on asking *US* questions as well. So, TOOLS be them old or new are to serve a purpose. BUDGETS then also create Diversions for the Fair, good , better , best ( EXCELLANT ) Realm of Should You or Should YOU *NOT* buy that stuff ? Although HARBOR Freight serves its purpose in the line of Less being more. ELECTRICITY is one of those ( Do or DIE ) Life lessons NO ONE Should ever ignore. There is a saying: Buy Once - CRY Once. Yet plenty will keep buying the same items that have failed, let them down, or simply were less then expected due to the COST ( VALUE ) Perceived NOT delivered. Unless a person is working in the ( T R A D E S ) the INVESTMENT may be falling on DEAF Ears No Matter the RISK it Entails. So a Compromise of sorts. Instead o f putting together the LOW end of the Scale. Lets hit it about mid way and see where that gets us. Store brands be it at Home Depot, Lowes, ACE, Grainger, Mc Master Carr , Menards, along with Walmart, Kmart, Target, FLEET Farm, FARM and FLEET, Costco, Sams Club, There are still more BUTT hear me out. Today your grand total was under 200 bucks. Depending on the LEVEL or brand picked out (GENERALLY ) Speaking. A wife's grip on the purse strings might LIMIT the Husbands ability to sneak even 20 to 30 dollars out during a 30, 60, 90 , day period or longer even. My Belief is ( BUILDING ) a solid foundation. Worry less about the total versus What *YOU* need and when ? Recently Home Depot and Lowes did something ( ODD ) butt also Interesting. KLIEN Tools which is an Industry Leader was scaling back at one and ramping up at the other. CLEARNACE priced ( NAME BRAND ) Industry Accepted Trades version of these were going for pennies on the dollar. NO JOKE. With that 200 bucks. You could get some or at least half or more GREAT Quality and then Add on as time goes on. KEEP tools will always be just that. LOW Priced ( VALUE PACKED ) Top Name Brand will hold a Premium price long after a decade or more has passed. Take Craftsmen Brand from Sears. During there hey day, American made locally and Lifetime warranty that made the price a built in Guarantee for generations to be smiling about as well. SNAP on , Cornwell, MAC, MAtCO, the big truck Expensive stuff MOST cant even get close to . Chinese knock offs are not JAPAN Quality . So be it the new version of the old craftsmen brand or ? Harbor Freight is more intended for getting out of a pinch instead of Life long Durability. Again ( Buy Once - Cry Once ) Life insurance claims on electrical Accidents. ( LOOK it Up ) Old or young it knows no boundaries. Volts, Watts, Amps, Wet or Dry ( Do YOU want to Die ? The Average person may be able to swing a few new tools per year. Specialty Mind you . Not a new tape measure or a hammer per say. NEVER EVER ( DISCOUNT ) the Lifetime You have NOT lived yet !!!
Voice of Reason states this. Better to the SAFE then Sorry. Are you going to TRUST some one else's Failures to help you in a time of need ? LASTLY Remember this point of interest. Comments, Advice - Interactions with others who know less about more is never a winning choice. My BELIEF may not be the Common person relief. Yet , when push comes to shove. Pay for what you need ( ONCE ) then get more as time goes on .
T O O L S are a Means to an End. USING the Wrong items could make you the (TOOL ) for trusting a FOOLs Advice ( RIGHT ) ???

Yup! Good quality tools are nice to have. I really appreciate the Doyle brand at harbor freight, did you notice the "made in USA" and flag on the packaging of the stripper? The build quality really is a notch above Klein tools. Harbor Freights Doyle and Icon brands are expensive, but as you said, buy once, cry once. I think Harbor Freight gets a bad reputation from people going into the store and buying the cheapest Chinese products they sell, then finding out the quality is horrible and assuming everything in the store must be junk. The same thing happens in reverse with some brands as well. A few years back, DeWalt started outsourcing some of their lower end power tools to China. People were buying them because they had faith in the "real" brand, only to find out they were junk. Branding is like that, it can be meaningless and give a false sense of security and I've never fallen into that trap. I just do my research and buy what works for me. I really do appreciate the comment! And remember, be safe, the quality of the tool doesn't do that for you!

It's NOT a "much better than a wire nut"...
They have less contact surface area.
Wire nuts are better, but Wago's are more convenient for the lazy.

    • @1D10CRACY
      @1D10CRACY  5 місяців тому

I appreciate your opinion! With a wire nut sometimes the wires move on you and you really don't get a good twist and bite on them with the wire nut Because the nuts are normally a solid color, you can't even get a visual on the wires. The Wago's are clear, and you can see that the wires are seated properly. The data on them shows the way the teeth bite down, the added resistance is minimal when compared to a properly fitted wire nut. They are smaller and as you said, easier to use making them great for us lazy people. Though I'd like to think at my age I'm smarter, giving the illusion that I'm lazy. ;) This is why in my opinion, they are "much better". All of that being said, I'm sure a properly fitted wire nut would have less resistance, as there are more points of contact with the twisted wires.

Plenty of testing showing the best brands are perfectly safe substitutes. It's not about "lazy" it's about safety and quality. For homeowners, the Wago is better.
