Do you really need to cut in the floor? I'm using a deck brush as recommended and will be putting molding around the bottom of the walls so it should cover any paint that gets on there.
If you have a stead hand, then you could just roll on the paint. We really wanted to avoid getting paint on the walls and show viewers a best practice. :)

Yes, you can tint the paint at the paint color. Just bring step one to the paint counter and let them know the color name/number you'd like to have applied.
Rust-Oleum notes that this paint offers maximum scratch and stain resistance.

Is it okay to paint the basement floor of a new home using this method? The builder suggests not to finish the basement within five years, until everything is set - not sure if it applies to painting the floor ?
That's tough to say. Perhaps their suggested time of 5 years is in regard to the settling of the foundation. We suggest following up with them on the ramifications of painting the cement basement slab.

Shouldn't you clean the floor then fill cracks?
You could get moisture locked in the cracks if you clean it and then fill the crack.

By chance do you know what the red color paint was?
Gosh, that was the original paint in a house from 1924. Very similiar to Benjamin Moore Tuscan Red. Hope this helps!
You didn't sand at all?
Depending on the age of the floor paint you would want to scrape off any loose paint and patch it. Please be aware of the age of the paint in case it has lead in it. A good brillow brush when cleaning is key to smoothing out rough spots.
