Very, very interesting! Did BMW make changes in later model years where speed sensor issues no longer affected transmission shifting? I’ve never heard of a car where the speed sensors were tied in to the TCM. I learned something new today. Thanks, Sadel!
I believe the newer ones don't get affected, but this generation I know went into limp on transmission for bad can bus, bad mass airflow sensors, and obviously bad wheel speed sensors.
Hey I have a 97 528i, my abs and asc lights are on, I replaced all 4 wheel speed sensors and the transmission output shaft speed sensor witch is the part I actually had a trouble code for, but now the code is gone so I assume the problem is fixed but the abs/asc lights are still on. And my car won’t move at all like it won’t even go into gear, is the Abs module behind the glove box you think? Or do I need a new transmission? Or differential? I have been struggling with this for way too long now!
yes the abs module is behind the globe box and unfortunately you would need to have the complete vehicle scanned to see what codes are logged or if there are modules not communicating or have physical components related to the trans checked
I have a very simple scanner and only reads engine codes.. What type of scanner should be used to read wheel speed on a E39 like this one? I have the same problems plus airbag light, when its wet speedometer stops reading speed, ASC and ABS lights are on.
you will need a scanner that will connect to the 20 pin port under the hood to have access to the rest of the modules besides the engine computer. That's all assuming you have one that's older that 2000, if its newer than a scanner in the interior obd connector will work but has to be one that is not a code reader. Some scanners that should work would be like Lauch, TopDon, Autel.
wow! the 2000 528 i just diagnosed has a different abs design, its connected to the abs unit. i had basically the same code (code 20) and a few others but i couldn't find anything on any of those while using my thinktool pros so i switched to my snap on verus and had totally different codes!!! any ways this system didn't disturb the transmission, i believe i spoke with you about this one... this vehicle has a bad module and the sensors and the precharge pump tested good...opened up the module and found bad bonding strips for the pump and the sensor... customer declined any further repairs and was fine with having the lights still on ua-cam.com/video/3T9x7QgKCz8/v-deo.html

Great Case study Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Pretty rare occurrence in my experience to see a module stop receiving a wheel speed signal. Nice trouble shooting!
Yeah, I wasn't expecting that on this one.
Thank you very much

hello im having this same issue with my car and i was wondering if you could help in to where to get this part please and thank you.
I got mine off ebay, search it with the year make model chassis code and number on the module
I have the same problem any idea what to do
👍👍👍

@@DTEAuto Thanks. Its a 1998 US version. Do you know where can I buy one of those?
Like my car won’t even go into gear at all, it won’t move, I can’t even hear the transmission even trying to shift into drive!
Part number ?

yeah, the early versions were ASC and then it went to DSC, and that's good to hear you got down to finding an issue.

yes the scanner on this year vehicle is able to read all modules through the factory diagnostics port
Is capable of programming modules on utopian vehicles , Nissan
I have the same car an the same problem
make sure all the wheel sensors are reading correctly
Nissan is bad for that as well
