Have you guys thought about put tarp over the solar panels before the snowstorm come in, it may make it easier to pull off the snow build up. Also maybe put tarp over your battery shed to help it from freezing.
Hi guy's, that'll help keep the mule dry, but the squirrel might like it also. You definitely need to create a drive through parking for the snow mobiles, to make it easier to access them. Especially if you get hurt and Jen has to haul you out in the sled.
Technical description for your hook. Used in many different industries, and has many different names. It may be called a box hook, cargo hook, loading hook, docker's hook when used by a longshoreman and a bailing hook, bale hook or hay hook in the agriculture industry. 😁
About the hook that you were using to push the tubing into the crack and you asked what things they were used for, I’ve seen hooks like that used to carry blocks of ice for ice boxes before refrigeration. Watch the movie, O Brother, Where Art Thou.
Great job guys, really good idea to use those pipe covers or pool noodles as Jen calls them lol, and that old shelter tarp definitely came in handy, stay safe and warm, tfs x Julie 🇬🇧
Reminds me of when we were stationed in Fort Wainwright, Alaska for a few years. If there's a way, the snow has the will to get there. Thanks for sharing and be safe and warm! Up to 62K+ now I see-Congrats!
Awesome idea to help protect the Mule! Personally, I would've started with the longer tarp/Shelter Logic, and wrapped it from the inside corner and around the front. Not so much on the ground to roll up when you pull the Mule out, and probably neater and nicer looking..😂😅 Love what ya'll are doing ❤️
You guys did a great job wrapping it up to protect it! Stay warm!!! It is going to be 80F here in Arizona today I will try to send some warmth your way
You guys be careful, think cabin fever is setting in. Great funny video, made my day. Hope you have a very merry white Christmas. Have to say you both are real, my kind of people
I really love watching you two. You work well with each other (pretty much?) with a lot of humor! A lot more than I would if I were to be in that much snow and wind at any rate. Jen I also love your new hair cut and style. It looks great and easy to take care of for every day.
You are so much fun together.....loving the banter between you both.....always put a smile on my face...May you both have a Very Merry and blessed Christmas and l will see you on your next video....stay safe... 😎😄💜💙👍🙏🎅🌲
I don't mind temporary tarps like that to save me work or harsh weather on my machines. Long term though, you could definitely use a traditional tarp with grommets and arctic bungies to secure it.
Oh, dear. Your channel reminds my why we fled Wisconsin 17 years ago and settled in South-central Missouri where it is sunny and 56 degrees today. Good luck dealing with that white stuff.
Hate to rub it in but when we get to our cabin in SC it will be low to mid 60's all week. Not sure what January will bring though. But it is the reason we chose to build 700 miles from home so we could get away from snow and cold. I was a supervisor on the railroad before I retired and I always told my guys that when weather conditions got cold, snowy and windy to slow down everything you're doing. Think about the task you're about to do and assess the risk. Take steps to mitigate the risks. Everything becomes more hazardous in bad conditions. Sorry about the lecture but it's what I did for 35 years. Stay safe and stay warm.
well well. i had a jacket like that delivered monday. wonted it for my shooting at the rang. so used it today ( wednesday). works realy good. can.t believe you use them too. lol. enjoy the wormth. phil
Would you like me to send some of our heat to help with the snow removal? we are melting into a puddle here, lol, it’s nice to see you so positive with the wonderful tools. Jay, you are a man after my father’s heart. His favourite fix it for most things was a roll of fencing wire which he used to temporarily (permanently ) fix things.
i got my pickup parked down at the bottom of the hill at a neighbors, my 4 wheeler has worked well up to now, if it snows again i might have to reevaluate our situation. we might be stuck here for a few weeks again this year
Great job .... I look forward to more about solar and how it does this winter and how much generator time .... The winter up north is not great I know but I'm very interested
If you switch to synthetic oil it flows faster than conventional in cold weather it will make a difference in your car tractor and snowmobile look up testing done by project farms on UA-cam
Hey guys I work in Architecture in NYC but there are some great expansion joint materials and details that could help for long term solutions to the mud room
Nice.....I'm open to options for sure. My big concern is getting the flashing up above to keep moisture from sitting in the joint with some type of bad material. This is why I didn't want to use spray foam and such.....rather try a better option. 😁
@ there is a great DOW product, the 123. it is available in various widths as a sheet that comes in rolls and would do a better than decent job of replacing a flashing detail if you didn’t want to use a copper flashing. Both could slide under your facade boards.
Yeah, but it’s not very aesthetically pleasing and a chore to remove when you’re ready next year to make a more aesthetically pleasing seal. That’s a lot of aesthetically’s
I definitely love your videos ❤😉. Sounds like you're going to be snowed in for a few days. 😅 ☃️. I bet you'll be thinking about moving next year. 😮 I hope not because I love your views and videos. 🙏. As far as the hook goes, I call mine a hay hook and I've used it a good many years. It works really well after you get the hang of it. 😜 It saves a lot of bending over and blisters on the hands. Plus it speeds up the work process. You can stack a lot of hay in a hurry or load up the elevator with ease. Be careful with that packed snow on the driveway you might go for a joy right. 😂. Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to you and you🥳🎄🎉 both.
Speaking of "The Mule..." After 14 years, the mice finally got my Mule by eating enough wiring as to require a complete new wiring harness. Took it to the shop where I bought it on October 18...or exactly two months ago. Wiring harness was supposed to arrive from Mexico November 20. They have no idea when (if?) it will arrive. I can use the little JD tractor to cut firewood this winter and may not even need the Mule. Kawasaki no longer makes the 610 and the bigger side-by-sides are in sticker shock country. An as-is trade isn't much help in defraying a major expenditure. I hope you're planning to put a bunch of sticky traps in strategic places on your Mule this winter. Yes, "one is none..."
Just curious, how come you didnt use spray foam. At my camp i always have at least two cans on hand at all times. Keep on keeping on. Good video's you two. I'll be staying at my camp full time when i retire in January.
@OffgridwithJayandJen oil is not all the same synthetic oil flows at negative temperature makes a Big difference in starting I use it in everything I own I recommend Mobil 1 or royal purple I have a 29 year old snowblower I can start 1 pull
I like how the weather people can predict snow measurements of 1" to 24" lol... like let's narrow it down to like 20" to 24" for example lol not 8" to 18"

Jay and Jen love and enjoy your videos. May the lord bless and protect Jay and Jen and working on the homestead mudroom.
It's a good feeling to know you buttoned up those spots before the dump happens😘 Good job!👍

Captain Hook ! 😊

You two hardy, resourceful people will be fine I'm sure. Take good care!

It is definitely a antique foam poker!!
You both are so comical! It makes your videos great! The snow is beautiful but I’m glad we don’t get that much.
If it works, use it. There is nothing wrong with that. I would do the same thing. Take care my friends ❤❤.

I'm 71 for years I'V always herd it called hay hook for small square bales of hay so if you are wrong so M I. I used them a lot growing up.
Lots of different names for the hay hook but hay hook works! Lol. Baling hook might work too!
I’m going with hay hook. Looks just like the one I missed the bale and hit my shin with when I was a boy working on my uncles farm.
We used it for moving ice blocks
Cabin Fever 🙂
Ich freue mich wenn ihr so lustig seid
I've used a hook like that for grabbing hay bales.
You gotta do whatcha gotta do
It's Jay against the snow
I'm rooting for you Jay😊
You are so much fun together.....loving the banter between you both.....always put a smile on my face...May you both have a Very Merry and blessed Christmas and l will see you on your next video....stay safe... 😎😄💜💙👍🙏🎅🌲

I live in Texas. We seldom get snow where I live. It's beautiful, but I'm too old to handle the cold anymore.
Awesome Job Guy's! Love & Peace from not so Snowy, Northern Indiana!

Great job guys!
jay my back hurts for you all that shoveling
Buy a snowmobile lift dolly.. let it do the work you just push them into places for storage or cover
If you switch to synthetic oil it flows faster than conventional in cold weather it will make a difference in your car tractor and snowmobile look up testing done by project farms on UA-cam
It's the pirate hand 😂😂😂😂

I see you now have a cat on the homestead…a freezy cat😂😂😂
while the old Mule is old school no frills you can't kill them and I tried. took everything I threw at it, wish I still had it
Awesome......I hope not to ever let it go
Would spray in foam fill the cracks better?
Yeah, but it’s not very aesthetically pleasing and a chore to remove when you’re ready next year to make a more aesthetically pleasing seal. That’s a lot of aesthetically’s
Hay hook to lift bails straw and hay.
It's a ice pick jay

Hi,id just put wood across the gaps instead of tarp on the inside,a lot easier to do.
That is a Meat Hook. It's used in Meat Processing Plants. 😂
Is this heated vest compatible with a pacemaker?
Whats under the new leanto beside small house???
Lumber and siding to finish the back of the cabin with. We will use that for a work space for the winter and for my maple saping in a couple months

Do you use synthetic oil in the snowmobile
I use whatever cheap 2 stroke oil I have, currently I have Johnson marine oil
