    Cold ash on a damp paper towel will clean up the glass on your stove amazingly well. No cleaner necessary!
    Your winter “get away” is truly a little slice of heaven. Love your videos Jay!

    Jay I really like when you come out with random things like the fact you love the hiss of the propane light going inside your tent. Adds so much more personality to what's going on. It's interesting hearing all these little things you like about camping out in the cold.

    Another excellent video, Jay. Sometimes if the window on my stove was built up, but not too bad, I used to rub it with some of the cold ashes. It wouldn't be perfectly clean ,but good enough to see what was going on in the stove.

    actually below -42C the propane stops boiling so it stops being a gas and will become liquid so it does not flow out the nozzle as gas so it cannot be ignited. yes it boils at around -42C but it also boils at -10C :) Love your videos btw

    • @kamalpreetsinghgill1396
      @kamalpreetsinghgill1396 6 годин тому

      The outside temp doesnt need to be -42 for propane to stop burning, it can happen even at -30 because when you burn propane, due to law of thermodynamics, the temp of propane starts to drop, if it drops belpw -42, propane wont boil.

    Love the scenery Jay. Before you spend money on chemical cleaners for your stove, try this. Take a wet rag or paper towel and dab it in the ash in the bottom of your stove. Then use that and wipe the glass clean. I use this method all the time and it works like a charm. Also a hot fire inside the stove with the damper wide open will usually burn the bulk of that blackness off the glass.

    Jay, Grew up in Vermont on Dairy Farm. We had a huge wood cooking stove in kitchen and later on added an electric stove. The room was big for kitchens, as the table could sit 15-18 easily. Grandma would make bread everyday and homemade donuts every Sunday on the wood stove. The woodshed was also massive with sliding barn doors for summer wood delivery. Food always tasted better when it was cooked in the wood stove oven, heck the whole house
    smelled better!

    Jay, love watching your outdoor shows. Hubby and I camped lots of times. Found a trick (from someone else, but it works) to get that creosote off your glass on your wood stove. Let it cool way down. Probably first thing in morning especially if fire goes out. Get a pan of water and some paper towels. Wet the paper towels, dip in the cold ashes from inside your stove and in a circular motion, lightly scrub the inside of your glass. It should all come right off. Seen it many times and appears to work great. Good luck. Happy Holidays and keep safe and warm this winter. .

    From the voice of experience: When splitting wood using the over the shoulder method, put your OPPOSITE foot forward. If you happen to hit only a glancing blow, the axe will swing through and you don’t want your forward leg to be in the path of the blade. I only did it once but destroyed a pair of Levi’s 501s, a Nike cross trainer - split the laces and tongue clean in half - and cut a hole in my sock. Only got a scratch, but it could have been so much worse.
    Great video, as always!

    According to the Internet, “When you open the valve on a propane tank to use in your grill, the liquid propane boils back into propane gas and reaches a temperature of about -43.6 F.” So…at temperatures higher than this, propane exists as a gas (I.e., you can burn it in your lamp), while at temperatures below this, it remains as a liquid (I.e., no light).

    Hi Jay, handy hint all the way from England! - To clean your log burner, grab a handful of kitchen paper dampen it or wet half of it and dip it into the ash in your stove, then, rub into the glass … with a little elbow grease you will find it cleans it beautifully! Then wipe with clean cloth - No chemicals needed!! Really enjoy your channel, and would love it to be that cold for a little bit here!! Best wishes for Christmas and the new year Jenny x

    😁😆 You must be part Inuit !!! I wish I could join you in that , "... wonderful experience !!" I tried it as a teenager, in the early 1970's and it got down to -50 F, yes Fahrenheit, at the top of Lake Superior, and I did not think it so wonderful.🥶😱, even my hair froze solid !!! I'm part Algonquin but I'm from the southern ON region and even that was too cold for me !!! I'm much too warm blooded, 😅!!
    Hence why I live in southern BC and plan to move west and south, to the even warmer climates of the Pacific/indian Oceans region next year...... So as they say, "Fill your boots" (with snow) 🤣You ought to give Antarctica a go in July !!!! 🥶🥶🥶 You'd be right at home !!

But your pan-fried combo looked very tasty! I have wondered why you don't take the snowmobile battery inside the tent. Maybe it's too inconvenient to remove? I take it there's no way to Insulate the battery area from the extreme cold? Another enjoyable sleepover at the big tent. Thanks for sharing.

    Regarding Propane: Actually propane isn't useless when it boils, it's the other way around. Propane is a liquid at -42c and below at normal atmospheric pressure. It needs a higher temperature to boil and turn into the gas state. If it's in the liquid state, and below it's boiling point, there's no gas being given off and no pressure so the gas just won't come out of the tank. Here in the UK we like to BBQ even in winter (crazy right?) , the BBQ gas that used to be popular here was Butane, but that has a boiling point of -1c. That made Butane useless for winter BBQs. The standard here is now Propane for that reason.
