My thoughts as well. Did this with my daughters bed it as Spencer has done but was shocked at the state the underside of the mattress became covered in mildew, the mattress was amemory foam type and needed air circulation underneath it.
This couple and their family are delightfully refreshing, unapologetic for living life “their way” and a healthy example of relationship with “grace and love” as they navigate day-to-day life. Oh, yeah- and they’re just a joy to watch.
You two are about to roll up on 1.5 M subscribers. I remember when the two of you were so excited when you were about to reach 5 thousand subscribers. How far you've come. What a beautiful family you've made, and such a beautiful home you've built. I'm so proud and happy for all of you.
Wore just about to write that.. it would be just safer to add a layer of fabric to catch falling stuff.. I've seen vanlifers having the same problem with mold..
Yep,I have built 3-4 beds,,found out the hard way you must put many breather holes in plywood otherwise the moisture will result in mold /mildew...do it now ...
Kenzie, Spencer...it's been a while. Please let us know yous are OK. Reading about the wildfires in Texas😢 ....from a concerned subscriber in Scotland, UK ❤❤
Gosh! I think you need to add a master bedroom and bathroom to your existing home with a huge closet, probably two or three!. Oh my! You really need more room.Your home is so beautiful too!
You can add a nice big lidded basket to the bottom of your two nightstands for extra storage. It's especially good for diapers, wipes, etc. because you can just grab the whole thing and move it around the house.
And put a plastic bag in a bucket filled with hot water (first put the water in, then the plastic bag over it) you can put the cartridge in the plastic bag, so it will not get wet, but it will stay warm.
I would drill a few more of those big holes in the bed ply to help the mattress breath and prevent mould, if you are still worried about stuff falling in, staple some cloth over the holes from the underside
Anne and I have enjoyed your show since the beginning. It’s our heartfelt belief that you are doing well. It’s been 14 days , don’t push it if you’re reading this and are giving birth. 😅 good luck .
9:59 hi guys! Love your videos. Hey I just wanted to chime in here to save you both a bit of grief down the road with your mattress. There is a reason why mattresses are placed over slats and not a smooth surface. It’s to allow the mattress to breathe. If you place the mattress on a smooth surface it will not be able to breathe properly and will begin retaining moisture, resulting in the formation of mold and mildew. What I’d suggest is cutting up the plywood and using it as lift-up covers for each draw. Keep that mattress breathing my friends! And keep on making these beautiful videos ❤
You all just came to my mind to pray for! so I’m praying for y’all. I believe y’all do live in Texas, so I’m praying for your protection. If it gets bad there, go to your other location please.!❤
For more storage, build shelves or cabinets up either side of your bed instead of having just night stands! In the living room, switch out cabinet under TV for a bigger one! We’ve had to get creative with storage
Hi Guys. I love your work and togetherness. It's fun to watch. A word of caution from personal experience about putting the plywood over the slats. We purchased a new mattress and then did what Spencer has just done with plywood. In our case the bottom of the mattress became damp We dried it in natural sunlight. Problem solved? No unfortunately. It became damp fairly quickly and then moldy and smelly. We bought a new mattress and took the plywood out and no issues over the past 4 years. We did lay an old wool blanket down as a cushion and it works really well. Best wishes for your family and the new babe.
Between the wildfires and Makenzie being late in pregnancy, just hoping you guys are all ok. Even a shortie just to let us know would be great or a post on FB. Love you guys!! - Worried in Nebraska

You are gonna need ventilation between the mattres and the plywood sheet, or you are going to have mold pretty fast. Usually you need to drill a bunch of holes in the plywood sheet, but that defeats the purpose of keeping dirt out. I would put the plywood sheets under the slats and see how that goes. I have made several beds with plywood sheets and learned the hard way how much ventilation is needed.

When I was a mobile engineer, I used to keep a supply of silicone, resin etc on the dashboard of my van during the winter months, because it was the only way to ensure i'd have some useable product when I needed it, everything in the back of the van where there was no heat was unusable when it was cold.

I had one of those Roller Coasters for my Children who are now 35 & 37. I then purchased one for my Grandchildren and also for a young boy I used to be a Nanny to. They have ALL Loved it. I miss those days. Enjoy, it goes by quick.
I know of someone who lives in a container who did just what you did for storage. She got big time mold because of no circulation. She had to go back to slots!! She had a air handler in her room but didn't help. Might be time to build on a walk in closet. Hehe
Rain-X makes a windshield washer fluid that you can spray on your solar panels to mitigate ice buildup. Considering your space constraints, why not add an additional layer of drawers under your bed. hello, how are you? I hope you are well, the TV showed on the news, here in Brazil, that there is a huge fire in Texas. I hope it doesn't reach your home. May the Lord God send a great rain and put out this fire.
Mom, thanks for your hard work with all your duties, kids, cooking, lighthearted videos, and love for your family! It’s a pleasure to enjoy the videos.
2:55 same! I would take 90’s and above any day over cook weather. I actually even prefer it over 65-75 degree weather. I love to be able to walk out of the house with flip flops, a t-shirt and some shorts.
We love to tease our (Canadian) daughter who lives in Houston, Texas with her husband and children, about their weather versus our weather up here near Edmonton, Alberta. They complain about a little bit of cold, even though they grew up in Canada, until we remind them that an Alberta winter is not complete without occasional long periods of - 40 degrees celcius (= to -40 F). Suffice it to say, we wouldn't mind some of your 13 degrees fahrenheit (-10 C) for awhile. Keep up the great work on your videos!
Love the other posters idea about getting some big baskets to tuck under your nightstands. They can hold extra diapers, blankets, sheets, even baby toys, and baby linens.
The epitome of perseverance. You guys just keep going, even when the going gets tough -- proving you're made of tougher stuff. LOVE it!!! hello, how are you? I hope you are well, the TV showed on the news, here in Brazil, that there is a huge fire in Texas. I hope it doesn't reach your home. May the Lord God send a great rain and put out this fire.
The fire is a very long distance from where their property is. Thank you for the concern.

I love you guys I’ve been watching you all for a while the family is growing and I am excited to see what the next one is👍🏽🥰👍🏽🥰👍🏽
Slats below the mattress and ply below that. What you did will go moldy fast.
I love watching you two, really, you are perfect together
Yall are a adorable family. Love your videos. Stay safe lil mama.😊
Mom, thanks for your hard work with all your duties, kids, cooking, lighthearted videos, and love for your family! It’s a pleasure to enjoy the videos.
I started watching your journey with no children and now look how your family is growing love you guys
The kids helping out really hit me on how far you have come. God bless all!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
2:55 same! I would take 90’s and above any day over cook weather. I actually even prefer it over 65-75 degree weather. I love to be able to walk out of the house with flip flops, a t-shirt and some shorts.
Congrats on the 3rd Trimester. You may need to add another container or two to you home as your family grows.
LOVE it!!! What you've done so far is really impressive and it's so great that we get to follow along for the journey. It's great to be able to see fresh ideas, learn some things, and be entertained at the same time. Here's to being a boss!!! Excited for the new little one on the way. They're going to be a great addition to your adorable little family. Also, as a fellow coldie, I get it!! Hang in there Sis'! Summer is coming!!!
We got the major freeze, but was lucky to not have the snow- live up 2 1/2 N of Dallas/Ft. Worth-small town called Graham
So happy for you that the baby is almost here!!!!👶 try some dry rid under your bed or something like it may help it has worked for me.
I have watched you two from right after you started. I was searching for of grid living. I have learned so much from watching.
I have enjoyed watching all you have accomplished.
You folks are fun to watch!!! 🥰🎶❤️🎶❤️🎶❤️🎶🙏🙏🙏🙏🏡🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Family keeps growing y'all will need to add on an additional container unit. Love the video's.
My goodness. I sure do love watching this lil family grow ❤ withh all the ups & downs its always wonderful to hear Kenzie and the kiddos laugh or giggle. Also preparing is key to having enough room for a new baby so quick ❤ looks like he's going to be building some shelves to help for storing.
Kenzie, yor laughter are still so addicting! I love all the humor which just radiates fron you! Congratulations on the third trimester and all the best to the two of you!
Put a protective sheet of sine sort between that wood and your mattress as we done what your doing and it stained the mattress badly over time.
I guess its to do with body heat sweat and all.
Good luck in your pregnancy. Xx
