how are they underrated ? i mean, i’m only asking because i’ve seen them play numerous times and they were always great and there was always a good crowd.
I fell asleep one night in front of the tv and when I woke up I was in a great mood because my dreams were like heavenly and who was on the tube? Cheap Trick live and that angelic voice. Soooooo great.
I was a sophomore at Northern Arizona University in '78, living in a 4-story dorm where the top floor was the "quiet floor" for studious nerds. I heard this song blasting out the window of a roudy 2nd floor room, on repeat, and went down to confront the students. After pounding on the door, and announcing that I heard the music up on the 4th floor, the obviously inebriated dudes asked me not to tell the RA - that they'd turn it down. I told them "No, man - TURN IT UP! That song is AWESOME! Who is that group?!" I've been a Trick fan ever since. Saw them half a dozen times in the '80s, once in the '00s, and just missed them last night in Marion, IL. Would have gone if hadn't been on call at my hospital. Shouldn't have studied so hard at NAU.
Great band who loves the Beatles and Jeff Lynne. If you did not know, "California Man" originally was written by Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood of The Move, the Beatles loving band that would eventually become the Electric Light Orchestra. All music goes through the Fab 4. Awesome, Cheap Trick!
@@PaulMcCaffreyfmac In 1970, Roy Wood threw Jeff Lynne a lifeline to abandon the unsuccessful Idle Race and join him in The Move. Lynne was first asked by Woody to join The Move in 1969 when Trevor Burton left, Lynne decided to soldier on confident that the Idle Race would find success, after their self titled second album "Idle Race" failed to grab the music buyers attention and Wood asking Lynne to replace Carl Wayne in The Move, he took up Woody's offer providing they could both go ahead with Woody's "Electric Light Orchestra" project. ELO was born in July 1970 when Woody laid down some heavy cello riffs for Lynne's projected Move 'B' side about an escaped prisoner called "10538", Lynne loved Woody's heavy metal cello licks and he renamed the song "10538 Overture" and it became the first ever ELO recording.
Takes about 4.17mins in to get this going, then it kicks some........guitarist becomes annoying after a while......just like tonight live in Glasgow,Scotland!
🤫 they don't know their underrated. We know better. They play everywhere. Twelve years ago saw their tour bus in a small venue in Illinois. Missed again.
@dadblair I was there with you dude. That was my time also 78-79 year i graduated. Great year for rock and roll some of the best rock albums came out in that two year period.
one of the most underrated live bands of all time
Definitely -- super fun to watch!

@@mikebockey4125 I think they’re very respected. They’re not underrated so much as taken for granted. Long live Cheap Trick!!

Honored to have grown up with them.
My favorite 70's classic American arena rock bands are Aerosmith, Heart and CHEAP TRICK!!!!
The most under-rated band ever! Love every album.
A Roy Wood classic, yes he who co-owns Christmas along with Slade, from his days with The Move the self titled “The King of Rock and Roll”
Haevy blues. I love it.
I saw them open for Journey in '78. I was there to see Cheap Trick.
Sorry, Foreigner, not Journey.

No. it's a Roy Wood song; Jeff Lynne played on it but had no part in the writing.
@@BreekieMe Jeff Lynne was the beginning of the end for The Move and ELO made more money but were never half as interesting or half as much fun

@@monsterpopMusicFactory watch "hello there" live
Especially the 1978 Don Kirshner show
At least that Daryl clown wasn't here to ruin another great song by Cheap Trick.
,😂😂Daryls House with CT was excellent
As good as they are they were never much to look at live.
eh????
What were you talkin about??? 😆 "They were never much to look at live?" I think you are in the minority! Glad you enjoy their sound, at least!
Stolen from the move
Stolen? You're an idiot, it's called a cover.
it's a cover FFS . So Roy Wood will get his royalties
Is this the tour they opened for Kiss?
Journey
Baddass gunfire and rock and roll all rolled into 4 of the best to ever play out of Rockford!!!
Seen these guys live and number of times in small venues nobody can touch them for their live performances very exciting
I'm confident enough in my masculinity that I can say this...that Robin Zander is one beautiful creature. 👻
This is one the best onstage jams I have seen by Cheap Trick, Nielsen is often overlooked as one of our premier guitarist of our generation
True
Tom is awesome, what a smile, what a bass player.
He is an amazing bass player, and yes, that smile causes me to blush.
🤫 they don't know their underrated. We know better. They play everywhere. Twelve years ago saw their tour bus in a small venue in Illinois. Missed again.
Seen cheap trick in 1978.First concert.Never forget it.
Just awesome----The Boys from Illi-noise!
.
I was going to sleep but not right now!
Lifelong Cheap Trick fans know that when you get up close to the stage, Rick flips the sweat from his cap into your faces.
Great song from Roy Wood and the Move. Both versions rock the soul!
Robin at his prettiest. Love the Beatles song intro on the bass.
@@daisywrabbit its actually george Harrison's " within you without you " from sgt peppers album.
rabbit wrong.
These guys knew The Move had the goods... like the way Nielsen busts into Brontosaurus for a couple of bars.
Awesome video, the sound quality is top rated! Rick is on fire here.
And on the 8th Day God created Robin Zander's voice!
🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤
I'm surprised that they could play a place that big at that time? and Rick sounds a lot better with the clean tones.
there's 30 guitar strings in this song...POWER!!!
Once shared a train carriage to London with the band after a gig I saw them at in Oxford back in 1979. It was a wild two hours LOL!!
What a way to start the day!
They love Elo and the move don't they .
@dadblair I was there with you dude. That was my time also 78-79 year i graduated. Great year for rock and roll some of the best rock albums came out in that two year period.
Love the George Harrison intro! Classic!
the American Beatles:Cheap Trick Ladies & Germs
