Wells Gray Provincial Park | Bears and Waterfalls

- Our first trip out in 2023 with the NEW TRUCK AND 2021 80RB ADVENTURER CAMPER set up! We head north on a ROAD TRIP up the YELLOWHEAD HWY from KAMLOOPS to WELLS GRAY PROVINCIAL PARK to see the HELMCKEN waterfall, CLEARWATER LAKE, CLEARWATER RIVER and BLACK BEARS! It was REALLY HIGH WATER in all the RIVERS, LAKES, AND STREAMS! The campground was amazing! $23CAD a night, clean pit toilets and there's even a small CAFE that you can walk to that sells BOAT TOURS and CAKE!
There are NO HOOKUPS but there are generator hours and a sani-dump station for $5. I logged a BUNCH OF BIRDS and we even saw one of the many BLACK BEARS in the park! The most amazing part of the trip is, of course, the STUNNING HELMCKEN WATERFALL which was even more spectacular with the huge spring run off!
It was a great few days! I hope you enjoy the ROAD TRIP and CAMPING with us while seeing some British Columbia landscapes along the way!

We had a great time camping at Wells Gray Provincial Park this week! I thought it would be a lot cooler up there but it was still 31°C (87F)! Everything went smoothly with the camper so I’m excited to plan more TRUCK CAMPER trips around BRITISH COLUMBIA this summer! British Columbia has so much to see that even though I’ve been camping for years there are so many places I haven’t been! I hope you enjoy the BEAUTIFUL DRIVE along the Yellowhead Highway beside the NORTH THOMPSON RIVER and seeing WELLS GRAY PROVINCIAL PARK! There are so many more things to see and do at Wells Gray but we were only there for a short visit. I definitely want to come back soon and do the boat trip! A bit expensive at $250pp but it looks like an amazing tour of Clearwater Lake and Rainbow Falls!

Thank you for sharing! My family spent the Canada Day long weekend there in 2017 and it was hot then as well. I loved the waterfalls. We saw a cinnamon coloured bear when we were leaving just a day prior to them evacuating the area because of the wild fires. Mosquitos were bad that year. From there, we took an epic trip to Jasper, down the Icefields Parkway and then to Shuswap lake. I am glad you enjoyed your road trip.
I love Wells Gray and we camp there often! Sometimes we stay longer and bring a canoe :D It's not far to Jasper. I think we might head to Jasper for our next trip! Did you go on the tram/gondola thing in Jasper? I want to give it a try! We definitely covered ourselves in OFF to deal with the mosquitos! I can't imagine how hot it's going to be by Canada Day this year...Thanks so much for watching
@@JessicaWanders No I didn't but it is worth going to see the view from where the tram leaves from, you can get really good camera shots of the area while having some ice cream. We were Prius camping and that year the grizzlies were stressing out the elk in the park. We thought the cinnamon bear in Wells Gray did not look like a black bear. We did have a large black bear charge our car on the Icefields parkway on top of a summit..it missed us. From what I saw of the strength of that river, I would keep a canoe away from the edge of the river while on the lake. If you do go to Jasper sometime go down the Icefields at least to see the Athabascan falls It was so much fun. Happy travels.
I love Jasper too. The mountains are just outstanding! I remember tent camping at the Wapati campground and waking up with five elk just sleeping outside the tent!! The wildlife is amazing. As far as I know Cinnamon bears are just a colour variant subspecies of black bears...maybe you saw a grizzly! :D

Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! I'm actually doing the Grocery Challenge at the moment so I made all the meals in Week #8 of that challenge in the camper! I even tried out my new camp chef oven (a review of that new appliance is coming too!) Jessica I was making up a menu plan for the week and thought of something that might come in handy for your challenge! It is called crazy crust pizza. It is made with : 1 cup flour( AP), 2-eggs, 2/3 cup of milk, 1-tsp salt, 1-tsp Italian Seasoning. Mix together well in a bowl ( will make a batter). Pour into a lined medium size sheet pan that has been sprayed with cooking oil spray. Now add any toppings you want. Examples: pepperoni, cooked breakfast sausage and sautéed fresh mushrooms. I also make a “Red Lobster” pizza substituting diced shrimp for lobster( could use canned shrimp or the imitation crab meat in stores). I have never tried a white pizza before, but bet it would be good too. Place in 425 degree oven and bake for 10 minutes, then take out( batter should be set up and lightly brown). Now add your sauce of choice( red marinara or white Alfredo) and cheese( mozzarella along with any other you like). Bake for another 10 minutes. I have been wanting to try using Alfredo sauce, fresh spinach, fresh sautéed mushrooms and diced baked, seasoned chicken…cut into cubes. Then sprinkle on some parmigiana shredded cheese with the mozzarella. I bought a seasoning at Sam’s called Kicken chicken that has good spice to it…I think I will season my chicken with. That or create a clean out the fridge Vegetable pizza using Rotel as my tomato sauce. Lots of ways to go for a cheap dinner! 😊
Your pizza ideas sound great! When we do order pizza in I tend to order a pizza that sounds a LOT like your chicken pizza! I love a good alfredo pizza! Your crust recipe sounds pretty easy...like a batter rather than a dough. Could be something because I still don't have any yeast...Great ideas as always Nancy :D

Wow that’s some fast moving water and how cute is that bear! We have a lot of black bear here in north western New Jersey especially where I live. They get into the dumpsters which is annoying bc they make a mess but, everyones gotta eat lol
We are looking for a small lightweight camper to do a 2 month adventure in western USA.
The water was sooo high! It did make the waterfall VERY impressive though :D Cool that you're planning a trip out west! I want to plan a trip out east! ;) Lightweight campers can be hard to find! Good luck :D

Beautiful falls! Wow! We were in Clearwater a couple of summers ago. Wish we would have checked out this campground. Where abouts in BC do you plan on camping this summer? We live in Northern BC. If you're coming this way maybe I can recomend some camping spots for you. 🙂
Hey Kimberley! Great to see you :D Helmcken Falls are gorgeous, you should definitely check them out if you are back in Clearwater! I think I'm looking for places that don't have a lot of smoke at the moment and that might be North or West...or North West lol We like places that have nice natural features (like rock features) and rivers to enjoy and possibly flyfish in ;) It's getting so hot so fast that I was thinking further into the Rockies might be cooler...
I'd love any recommendations of places that you love :D
