Overall this pack gave me fantastic footage to work with and it's been fun to record, but there have been issues that frustrate me regarding pathfinding (having trouble finding a place to stand in the water), how Sims choose to go from A to B, and extremely thin gameplay.
If your mermaid is a high level of conservation career it'll be required for them to survey ocean wildlife which can be done only by snorkeling as far as I can tell, but since your sim is a mermaid that option won't be available for them. So if you're a mermaid don't chose the marine biologist branch of the conservation career (I haven't tried it with the other branch though).
@@dezamraz It's really sucks, but it's still easily doable, I was able to finish this branch with a mermaid. I recall there is a dialogue option that compensates for this.
They should make Mermaids a bit like vampires and i think they should have a secret place like under an ocean where all the mermaids can hang out instead of them only being able to swim above water
The developers were on to something with being able to create a mermaid or siren. But yeah, they could have created different traits that would have pros and cons like vampires so you could have a unique build for your mermaid or siren.

I wish they made mermaids and aliens more like vampires, it adds more replayability and depth when you can mix match skills, perks and disadvantages, but they just add emotion control to everything occult.
The idea of the pack is nice, the implementation is terrible. Everyone i know that plays sims 4 is a mermaid or triton, for obvious reasons. They dont have negative perks, they live longer than regular sims, and they can do everything a normal sim does, plus more. Pretty straight forward.

Yes! It would've been sooooo much nicer if they made mermaids to have a skill tree! (That skill tree... I think witches and fairies in "Magic Realm" will have it.) Honestly, I think all occults must have a skill tree!
Exactly, the build/buy/cas mode is AMAZING, but the lack of gameplay is siriously dissapointing, especially considering how much money you paid for it. I do hope there's coming an underwater world soon! Maybe with an update or something?
Honestly this expansion is pretty weak considering it’s considered a full expansion rather than a game pack. The CAS, world and whatnot are solid.... I just don’t know if I’d say it’s $40 solid
At least they're better than Sims 3's mermaids, which didn't have a whole lot going for them. They can scuba dive very well and call sharks to attack their enemies, plus won't get attacked by the kraken. In Sims 4, the spell-like songs are a huge bonus. I also think that their tails look a lot nicer -- they look like actual tails, whereas Sims 3's mermaids had that bent part for knees that made them look like a human sim in a costume. Swimming speed is also nice -- I remember it took literally 24 sim hours for my mermaid to swim from one side of the main island of Isla Paradiso to the other side, and being extremely annoyed.
i partly agree, but i still like sims 3 wayy more. sure tho, isla paradiso is damn laggy world but scuba diving and actual houseboats makes it a bit better. ngl i'm really disappointed in the sims 4 (like every stuff pack, game pack and expansion) because it is lacking gameplay. it's a big downhill. yet that is only my opinion.
@Zachary Khan I don't know if I would call mermaid speed in Sims 3 "fast". Faster than regular sims, sure. But I'm pretty sure a rowboat could outpace them, lol. There's a reason that, practically from EA Play, the dev team has been very specific about how Sims 4 mermaids can go as fast as a jet ski, or whatever they call them.
I can also confirm ocean speed swims works in normal pools, really helpful. And ocean interactions also works. We only wished that rest of world beaches were swimable,
Expanding beaches to the rest of the worlds is impossible because of the fact that these worlds have already been built without going into the ocean and having a lot off into the ocean. Sorry pal.

@Zachary Khan the sims 3 had way more in depth gameplay. Although the occults didn't have a skill tree, there was alot you could do with them. In the sims 4 the occults needs a skill tree to be remotely interesting. Just my opinion.
Another mermaid fact: bath with soaks is not available for mermaids. I have tried many the tubs but the bath with soaks function is missing from them. Also you don't need to build a bedroom and buy a bed, because a mermaid can sleep in the ocean. thank you for the interesting facts on mermaid kelp.
Well would you rather have a working game or an underwater view? If you played the Sims 3 Island Paradise you would know that the boat house and underwater view features broke the game a lot and caused a shit ton of lag. I don’t mind that they left it out just cause I like to have smooth gameplay but that’s just me.

I was hoping we’d be able to scuba dive and go with the sim like the Sims 3. I loved that and windsurfing. For the price of this pack, I was expecting more and admit I’m a bit disappointed in it. Not a whole lot to do and not many lots to do stuff with either. A little more adventure would be nice. Also being able to swim in Granite falls lakes and so on would have been fun too.
Vampires in skills are much better .i disapointed because mermaids dont have a skill tree like vampires.but i will buy because sulani is beautiful and the new careers looks cool.
You know what would have been great? That's Sulani is a vacation world where the main gameplay would be cleaning the islands but also it would be a place just to chill and sunbathe and swim in the ocean! Because for an expansion it kinda lacks of gameplays (at least of it was a game pack, it would totally worth it)! Then, a full gamepack about mermaids like for vampires so we could have had a perks and quirks system and more deep and developped interactions for mermaids! I usually like all the EPs (even if I don't play that much with cats and dogs) because the gameplay is awsome but here EA just combined two elements that should have been game packs and then cut all good features that can go with them😧! They should have added more water activities and watet sports.
That’s like the only reason I want this pack is because of the world. I don’t have any other packs except vampires and I’m not sure if I should get island living, seasons, or get famous.

@@FaustRSI I bought the original game and three or four expansions until i realized they will never EVER do any efforts to fix bugs or pay more attention to customer opinions or feedback, and instead they will keep "investing" on lousy DLCS one after another ignoring everything else. Since then, i use an illegal copy of the game with all dlcs, and i dont care. I dont pay for lousy products. Im not as dumb as all the other customers. The worst of all this is, that the developers and EA behave the way they do because their customers let them. So, thats pretty sad. But it is the gaming generation of today, unfortunately.
I wish they did more with mermaids, there isn’t a lot to do and I find it underwhelming it would be nice if there was more powers and maybe even earning them because I find game is more fun when it’s a challenge

I think aesthetically, the mermaids are beautiful and a great addition, however the pack itself doesn't really offer much in terms of gameplay. it's better off being considered a gamepack rather than expansion pack. but this is just things that everyone already knows about now.
SpinningPlumbobs' new Expanded Mermaids Mod 2.0 has levels, perks, weaknesses, a ten-book lore, and tons of new interactions. Also Sea Witches and Kelpies with more magic powers. The public release should be on March 1, 2023. Kind of crazy that EA couldn't do this, but I guess it would have cut into their profit.

I bought the pack cause it was on sale, and has jet skis and sailboats. It's hilarious having sims ride the jet ski in the pool inside the house. The new world is pretty nice too.
I Really Expected More From This Game, There Is No Way To Distinguish A Mermaid From A Regular Sim, Unless They’re In You Household Or You See Them In Water, I Feel They Should Have Done Something Like The Sims Three Where You Can See The Mermaid Scales Or Something Hopefully They Make An Update
I think those mermaids are better than the ones in TS3. They have more interesting powers, dont have the weird colored human legs and when they use the bathtub their tail is showing! That's cute! But I miss the diving. That was a cool option!

I wish the Sim Guru's actually made a hidden world filled merpeople so when you do befriend or fall in love with merperson they take you there as a sign of trust. The mermaids were brought in for Island Living but they really didn't do much with it as far as gameplay. I don't understand why they didn't include diving underwater like TS3 it clearly was done so why not update it and add it to TS4 Nice video always informative and straightforward...I always look forward to your videos to get the finer details in TS4 packs🧜🏻♀️
I know I'm late to the party by commenting on this, but I discovered that Mermaids have an exceptionslly long Elder stage of life. I aged up my mermaid Sim and her husband (not a mermaid) into Elders on the same day and moved out of the household to let nature take it's course. I was playing on a normal lifespan and the husband died the following winter (I was playing as their kid at the time). The mermaid Sim died almost two Sim years later. Her son was an Elder by that point. It's unreal! Just wanted to mention it here.
If you use summon ocean threat or siren's call in succession it has a higher chance of killing a sim. (Turns out the video I saw it on was edited with the drowning sequence added in, I didn't know because it looked so real; same spot same time of day etc. )
I bought this expansion pack hugely because of mermaids. Like Carl hinted on, don't buy it if you mainly want it for mermaids. After an hour of playing you exhaust everything a mermaid can do, and it's not all that fun either. Mermaids just look pretty while they swim... thats about it. I never need to use any of the "spells" to change moods. I think those were silly additions. Also, the whole pack seemed like the developers working on it were quite lazy. The houses inside interior is awful.In one home there was only a bed and a kitchen?? I feel like they could definitely put more effort into that. Besides two public beaches, there is a small bar that your sims can go to. This was a huge minus when I wanted to take my sims out on a date or event, where the game won't allow you to go to the beaches and you can ONLY go to the bar for that purpose. I wish they added more public lots and not a bunch of empty houses. AND the nice-looking houses are taken by pre-existing households. I had to create my own house because the houses there were so ugly... and for FORTY dollars... it should be way better. Overall disappointed, and I wish I didn't pay 40 dollars for this. If you want the pack, buy it while it is on sale... because it is NOT worth 40. I bought this pack after watching a lot of youtubers at EA play hyping it up and when I bought it myself, it wasn't anything like that.

The text on the chest says: "The ancient lock is so rusted it wouldn’t budge even with the proper key, likely lost to watery depths" so it says, we can't open this even with the right key, makes me think this is just a decoration piece and not actually some bit of game play.

On the heels of the fairly deep (by Sims standards) perks and flaws system of the vampires, this seems either rushed or deliberately shallow. Which is ironic because... y'know, mermaids.
I did buy this pack mainly for sulani and it's culture + the Sims living there. I already knew I was going to be disappointed with the mermaids. I have only played about 2 hours with a mermaid sim and was so overwhelmingly disappointed with how little they can do. I was like, what the hell....at least we got a pretty world out of this pack.
For some reason, my game doesnt have the Mermadic Kelp available in the rewards store... and quite a few reward traits are also missing... I have no idea what happened or where they are...
Mermaids can’t snorkel and therefore can’t survey ocean wildlife from the buoy near the cave. Makes advancing Marine Biologist a little tricky sometimes.
Hi i`ve been wondering since mermaids practically gain fitness all the time does high calorie food cause them to gain weight or are they pretty much able to eat anything compared to humans? although fish , hell no "fish are friends not food!"
It was more expensive in the Sims 3 because you weren’t able to make a mermaid in CAS. Since you can just make a mermaid in CAS anyways, kelp should be a lot cheaper in the Sims 4.
I think they should’ve done this like vampires. They should have made different powers and a point system so you could choose to be a good or evil mermaid (or siren) and get to choose your powers or weaknesses. I feel like there’s a lot of cool gameplay but I think EA really rushed this one and still have _lots_ of things they need to add or change. Within an hour of having the pack I got pretty bored and I think until they fix some of these little errors or add more gameplay, this pack isn’t worth the 40 bucks to have to spend to get it.
They get sick when eating fish and they also get depressed when using the new fish trap. The moodlets talks about how they are sad they captured and or ate a friend.
I had no success in killing a single sim with even TWO mermaid powers working one after another. Used them 10 times in a row and nothing, a sim just won't be drowned.
I hope the creators will make a Mermaid/Underwater Game-StuffPack 'cause this EP gamplay is reaaaally thin.. also my Island is always almost empty? does anyone know why? AND there's no mermaids around!!

I've been looking everywhere but cannot find anyone who's having the same issue as I am...my mermaid had a moodlet that won't go away called "seawitch's curse" and when that one goes away I get " mermaid conversion disorder" I've tried everything to get rid of it but don't know what I'm doing wrong please help
I asked a friend and we think this is from a mod you're using - modthesims.info/d/630179/expanded-mermaids.html - it would seem that you got cursed for not paying for a seawitch's services? I haven't actually used that mod to be able to help but that's definitely where you should be looking :)
when i change my swimsuit it changes my mermaid top and when i change my mermaid back to the scales it changes my swimsuit back to the scales. what do i do???

A mermaid using a spell to bring about a big, scary thunderstorm then immediately getting spooked and swimming home is a cute idea to me.
It's like if you're trying to make a mischief to someone and get scared instead xD

That's Sulani is a vacation world where the main gameplay would be cleaning the islands but also it would be a place just to chill and sunbathe and swim in the ocean! Because for an expansion it kinda lacks of gameplays (at least of it was a game pack, it would totally worth it)! Then, a full gamepack about mermaids like for vampires so we could have had a perks and quirks system and more deep and developped interactions for mermaids! I usually like all the EPs (even if I don't play that much with cats and dogs) because the gameplay is awsome but here EA just combined two elements that should have been game packs and then cut all good features that can go with them😧! They should have added more water activities and watet sports.

@@FaustRSI I bought the original game and three or four expansions until i realized they will never EVER do any efforts to fix bugs or pay more attention to customer opinions or feedback, and instead they will keep "investing" on lousy DLCS one after another ignoring everything else. Since then, i use an illegal copy of the game with all dlcs, and i dont care. I dont pay for lousy products. Im not as dumb as all the other customers. The worst of all this is, that the developers and EA behave the way they do because their customers let them. So, thats pretty sad. But it is the gaming generation of today, unfortunately.
I wish they did more with mermaids, there isn’t a lot to do and I find it underwhelming it would be nice if there was more powers and maybe even earning them because I find game is more fun when it’s a challenge

I think aesthetically, the mermaids are beautiful and a great addition, however the pack itself doesn't really offer much in terms of gameplay. it's better off being considered a gamepack rather than expansion pack. but this is just things that everyone already knows about now.

SpinningPlumbobs' new Expanded Mermaids Mod 2.0 has levels, perks, weaknesses, a ten-book lore, and tons of new interactions. Also Sea Witches and Kelpies with more magic powers. The public release should be on March 1, 2023. Kind of crazy that EA couldn't do this, but I guess it would have cut into their profit.

I bought the pack cause it was on sale, and has jet skis and sailboats. It's hilarious having sims ride the jet ski in the pool inside the house. The new world is pretty nice too.

I think those mermaids are better than the ones in TS3. They have more interesting powers, dont have the weird colored human legs and when they use the bathtub their tail is showing! That's cute!
But I miss the diving. That was a cool option!
I liked the weird leg things. It means that you could sometimes spot them, they were different even out of the water.

The mermaids were brought in for Island Living but they really didn't do much with it as far as gameplay. I don't understand why they didn't include diving underwater like TS3 it clearly was done so why not update it and add it to TS4

I know I'm late to the party by commenting on this, but I discovered that Mermaids have an exceptionslly long Elder stage of life. I aged up my mermaid Sim and her husband (not a mermaid) into Elders on the same day and moved out of the household to let nature take it's course. I was playing on a normal lifespan and the husband died the following winter (I was playing as their kid at the time). The mermaid Sim died almost two Sim years later. Her son was an Elder by that point. It's unreal! Just wanted to mention it here.
I found it silly that as a mermaid you can't eat fish without getting a negative mood. Dolphins eat fish why not mermaids

If you use summon ocean threat or siren's call in succession it has a higher chance of killing a sim. (Turns out the video I saw it on was edited with the drowning sequence added in, I didn't know because it looked so real; same spot same time of day etc. )

I bought this expansion pack hugely because of mermaids. Like Carl hinted on, don't buy it if you mainly want it for mermaids. After an hour of playing you exhaust everything a mermaid can do, and it's not all that fun either. Mermaids just look pretty while they swim... thats about it. I never need to use any of the "spells" to change moods. I think those were silly additions.
Also, the whole pack seemed like the developers working on it were quite lazy. The houses inside interior is awful.In one home there was only a bed and a kitchen?? I feel like they could definitely put more effort into that. Besides two public beaches, there is a small bar that your sims can go to. This was a huge minus when I wanted to take my sims out on a date or event, where the game won't allow you to go to the beaches and you can ONLY go to the bar for that purpose. I wish they added more public lots and not a bunch of empty houses. AND the nice-looking houses are taken by pre-existing households. I had to create my own house because the houses there were so ugly... and for FORTY dollars... it should be way better. Overall disappointed, and I wish I didn't pay 40 dollars for this.
If you want the pack, buy it while it is on sale... because it is NOT worth 40. I bought this pack after watching a lot of youtubers at EA play hyping it up and when I bought it myself, it wasn't anything like that.

You're welcome. Higher fitness helps a ton in the cave. Anything over 5 is "passing" otherwise failures are more likely on several events

The text on the chest says: "The ancient lock is so rusted it wouldn’t budge even with the proper key, likely lost to watery depths" so it says, we can't open this even with the right key, makes me think this is just a decoration piece and not actually some bit of game play.

Two questions: hydration falls faster like when you're a plant Sim? They fall faster when you're on the sun? If yes then it's unplayable without mods.
Hydration doesn't fall very quickly at all and then tops up super easily and quickly so it is no challenge to manage

On the heels of the fairly deep (by Sims standards) perks and flaws system of the vampires, this seems either rushed or deliberately shallow. Which is ironic because... y'know, mermaids.
I did buy this pack mainly for sulani and it's culture + the Sims living there. I already knew I was going to be disappointed with the mermaids. I have only played about 2 hours with a mermaid sim and was so overwhelmingly disappointed with how little they can do. I was like, what the hell....at least we got a pretty world out of this pack.
For some reason, my game doesnt have the Mermadic Kelp available in the rewards store... and quite a few reward traits are also missing... I have no idea what happened or where they are...
Mermaids can’t snorkel and therefore can’t survey ocean wildlife from the buoy near the cave. Makes advancing Marine Biologist a little tricky sometimes.

It was more expensive in the Sims 3 because you weren’t able to make a mermaid in CAS. Since you can just make a mermaid in CAS anyways, kelp should be a lot cheaper in the Sims 4.

I think they should’ve done this like vampires. They should have made different powers and a point system so you could choose to be a good or evil mermaid (or siren) and get to choose your powers or weaknesses. I feel like there’s a lot of cool gameplay but I think EA really rushed this one and still have _lots_ of things they need to add or change. Within an hour of having the pack I got pretty bored and I think until they fix some of these little errors or add more gameplay, this pack isn’t worth the 40 bucks to have to spend to get it.
They don't have the leg scales like in 3. I liked that. But the tails look better.

They get sick when eating fish and they also get depressed when using the new fish trap. The moodlets talks about how they are sad they captured and or ate a friend.

I've been looking everywhere but cannot find anyone who's having the same issue as I am...my mermaid had a moodlet that won't go away called "seawitch's curse" and when that one goes away I get " mermaid conversion disorder" I've tried everything to get rid of it but don't know what I'm doing wrong please help
I asked a friend and we think this is from a mod you're using - modthesims.info/d/630179/expanded-mermaids.html - it would seem that you got cursed for not paying for a seawitch's services? I haven't actually used that mod to be able to help but that's definitely where you should be looking :)
