  • We are starting weekly online karate classes from the 3rd of August: email dojo@grkc1978.com to get added to the sign-up list. We wear white karate suit for a lot of good reasons (hygiene, symbolism, neatness), but it is a pain to keep it looking bright and fresh over time. If, like us, you have invested in a good quality gi and you want it to last, follow our short, simple guide to keeping it fresh, clean and snappy.
Here's how to clean your karate suit, in less than three minutes. We have also found the cheapest way to do it - who can afford to dry clean their gi?
Our full guide to gi care can be found here: zoehinis.com/2016/12/30/how-t...

I have a bushido gi. I struggle to get sweat stains out and other stains from a monster and red ground "sand"

      Hi, Thomas!
Try our method of vinegar and bicarb, and let it dry in the sun once or twice, just to help the stains as well.
We also use a green bar of soap called Sunlight Soap, which I believe is available all around the world. For sweat stains, add a little water to the bar, and rub it all over the sweat stain until you get a nice lather. Then you can take a nail brush or toothbrush and use it to scrub the sunlight into the area, and then leave it in the sun with the green soap on it. Flip it over and do the same on the other side. Once it has spent a day in the sun, wash it and see how it looks!
We are in a hot country, and even though it's not "traditional" to wear a shirt under your gi, it can really help extend the life span of your gi, as the shirt absorbs the sweat instead of your gi.
Hope this helps - please let us know how it goes 🙇🏻‍♀️

      Hello!
If you can find some bicarb of soda (also known as baking soda) and vinegar, you are most of the way there!
      Yasou from South Africa :D

Bună ziua😊 La ce temperatură se spălat corect chimonoul? Aștept răspuns, mulțumesc ❤

Great question! We always wash ours at cool or room temperature to prevent shrinkage. However, if it is badly stained, a hot wash once in a while is okay! But if your gi is pure cotton, big risk of shrinking, so please be careful. Thank you for watching and commenting 🤗

Usually if your gi is a stiff or heavy weight, it will keep it's snapping sound 😁 but cheaper suits tend to be too soft to make that clean snapping noise
