I am an environmental scientist. 29:08 for those trees to get such large splits and hollows, they would need to be at least 100 years old, many of them are probably much, much older than that! They are still babies in rainforest terms, but they are from an Old Growth Forest, and NOT PLANTATION LOGS!!!. These "Plantation Owners" likely "bought" the forested land (fraudulently), as is described here, and are in the process of clearing it of Old Growth Trees in preparation for "reforesting" it with a monoculture that they will spray, spray, spray, with Atrazine and Roundup and every other toxin known to Man, utterly killing the Earth's most amazing ecosystem while patting themselves on the back for being such "Good Environmentalists"! It's disgusting.
Living in harmony with nature is the most fulfilling way a human can go through life. Embracing the fact that we are not a being that stands superior to all other forms of life, but rather just another part of the complex world of nature. For too long humankind has placed itself high above all other species, and it is that "god-given right" to use the world that will be our downfall. As they said in the doc, nature can thrive without us, but we cannot thrive without it. Hopefully humans will realize the important relationship between life and the universe, before our own demise happens from our greed and blindness to what it means to be alive.
It would be interesting if DM was worried about the forests Europe deforested to become what it is today and also the non-clean energy sources now Europe won't get gas from Russia anymore.
@P I R A T A That is also a fun fact, although one that I was aware of. However, neither me nor the OP said anything about Brazilian forests, we are talking about EU forests. Nevertheless, thanks for the contribution.
Thank you! I learned so much watching this documentary. Truly developed my awareness. Kudos to the courage and heart of the indigenous Monduruku people. --Audrey in Chicago
This is all related to the history of the colonization of the country. When Brazil was colonized by Portugal, land was passed down from one generation to another, after this system "died" a law was created allowing everyone, WITH MONEY , to buy land but the thing was ... only the european descendants were the ones with money at that time, so the indigenous people and black people had no way to afford their own land, this lead to them either leaving that area or going to "cortiços", cheap buildings, which later would be destroyed by the government and because of that people started building houses in irregular places, that's how the favelas happened but I'm not gonna get into that here. So if you think about it , the old system didn't die because that law was created and everything is connected to our past, there was no support to indigenous people or black people who had just gained their freedom when that law was created. The ones with money would buy a lot of lands and still be passing it down to their sons and the cycle would go on, this caused a huge land concentration problem here. You have a small percentage of people with lots of land while the rest of the country has nothing which is why a lot of people protest for a adjustments in the distribution of land here. There are laws here in Brazil that says that lands that are not being used can be occupied by small farmers or people for living but ofc is not that simple. People who try to do that are killed, threaten and deceived just like many indigenous people are and guess by who ? OFC by the land owners, which also happen to be politicians because they invest in agrobusiness and cattle which is where the money is at in Brazil , so with that money they enter in politics because is not enough for them to steal land 🤡 they need to steal our money too. So this is why it seems like the government doesn't care about what's happening in the amazon forest, because they don't, they are destroying it for their companies, for their own business, own interests and same happens with politics here. If you look up the Elite families of Brazil , they are all connected to the old European families who would own slaves and big farms that I mentioned, nothing changed these people don't wanna lose their privileges. So the amazon is being destroyed by big companies, cattle business, agro business. Most of the meat that is being produced is not even for us to eat, is to export for people from first world countries to consume, the soy that is invading the amazon land is not for the people who are starving in the country, is for the cattle to eat to get fat and produce better quality meat and the cycle goes on. There's so much more I can't talk about here because it would be too long and this is just the tip of the iceberg , there are also other indigenous ethnicities in Brazil who are not from the amazon and are losing their lands in other regions of the country, the media doesn't show anything and those who try to talk are murdered. We do care. We do protest and many people are going vegan for this reason. Is important to say that we don't support the current president actions. The ones who support that clown are dumb old conservative religious people, the middle class who think they are rich and the elite who uses the president as their face for their own interests and to manipulate the previous ones i mentioned.
We all are children of earth. What we are doing to her will cause severe repercussions, possibly even our demise. No amount of money nor status will keep people safe when mother nature is no longer here to help us.
The earth has no gender. Stop crying, Michael Jackson, nobody cares about the earth - we only care about ourselves and how comfortable our lives are. How long are you going to live like an ignoramus?
How on earth does the Brazilian Government doesn't know the importance of the Amazon? (or they know but pretends not to) We're already suffering so much, the consequence of this action will slowly present itself and the damage will be irreversible because nature is not a product of man it's alive (obviously can't be manipulated to go back as how it is whenever we feel like it)
Who said the government doesn’t know the importance? Illegal occupation by land grabbers, corruption and greedy makes the forest police work difficult as the area is too large to control.

Speak for yourself Francisco. Many people in this country are aware that our biodiversity is under threat as well as the culture of the indigenous population who were here since immemorial times.
I'm 53 years old and since I was 9, I've been hearing that the Amazon forest is in danger and that Brazil doesn't take good care of it... It's time to change the subject! It's tiresome. The forest is going strong. I bet 99% of the people who say otherwise have never been there. I have. So has my father. It's impressive. By the way, the largest URBAN forest in the world is situated in Rio! My school backyard was close to it, so we'd often take strolls there during physical education classes. It's quite surprising to have a forest in a big city, but it's amazing at the same time. Indigenous communities in Brazil have, by law, the right to have their own reserves. Some of them are the size of Belgium alone, even though there are only a few thousand indigenous people living in them. I'd like to know what Germany and the rest of Europe are doing to protect their own forests... Most have been totally destroyed, as we know.
@@wonka4 FALSE!? I LIVE HERE! I've been to the Amazon forest. The problem is that there used to be 100,000 NGO there, several of which received a lot of public money with little or no accountability. The current government wants to find out what is going on. I totally suppor tthat. The amazon is a very rich area of the world and Europe and the USA want to use it as they please. Talk about colonisation 2.0.
@@wonka4 Don't be a idiot. How can a pro-Israel government like ours be called ''fascit' or ''nazi''!? Fascists and nazis are anti-Israel, not in favour of it. You repeat things without even knowing what you're saying. Italy's Mussollini and Germany's Hitler were anti-Israel. We're not. You're getting your facts from mainstream media, who doesn't inform at all. As for the forests, Australia and California have had far more fires than the Amazon and no one says a thing. 1.5 BILLION animals died in Australia and NO ONE said that Australian forest should be international. Do you know why? Because they don't have the mineral resources that the Amazon has. The largest water reservatoire in the world is precisely under the Amazon forest... I wonder why the USA/Europe want the area to be international... "Love" for the plants, no doubt.

6:26 I always find it amazing and funny how we call peaceful tribal people like that less civilized or educated and they are jacked like that because their life depends on the exercise they get by living it and know so much about the plants and animals and how to survive and are healthier than anyone in the developed world etc. LOOK at how in shape he is lol Same with some African tribes who still have their resources that haven't been plundered and depleted by the "first world". Get outta here with that. They are more intelligent knowledgeable and healthier and happier without and THAN us than we could ever imagine.
I think we all should protect rain-forest, but why only developing nations like brazil are forced to do it? They dont have enough food to feed their own people. Why arent there any forest in europe because they destroyed it for developement. Either UN should pay brazil government to keep the development so they dont destroy the rain forest or this thing going to happen, as government will turn the forest into farmland as most of the nations have done over the years..
Well... we do have enough food, Brazil is one of the largest primary food exporters in the world. Brazilians don`t destroy the forest to produce food, we destroy it to produce soy... nobody eats soy. The soy then is shipped to Europe and China to feed their animals in their inefficient farms that can only continue to be productive due to heavy incentives from governments. The same incentives that they accuse us from giving and violating WTO rules. Want to stop forest from been destroyed? Tell rich countries to stop buying soy from Brazil. But they will not. They will use the Amazon to justify sanctions against our export product that were not produced in the Amazon forest since they cannot compete, but they will never stop buying soy that IS produced in the Amazon since they will also not be able to compete.
If USA 🇺🇸 is protecting it then expect it to become beautiful like Libya 🇱🇾, Somalia 🇸🇴, Vietnam 🇻🇳, Syria 🇸🇾 , Iraq 🇮🇶 , Palestine 🇵🇸 or Afghanistan 🇦🇫

It’s become real serious over there now. It’s not too late yet, but we really need to act fast on it. And I don’t think we can wait until October to put a stop to it.
What do you think should be done? Disrespecting another country's sovereignty and taking its land from it? I don't think that would work, especially because there will still be greed no matter who owns the forest. Every single nation in the world is greedy. The only thing that would change is who is destroying the forest. Btw, some of this destruction is no one's fault because it's natural due to the seasonal wildfires.
@@jt1903 I’m not saying we should disrespect another country’s sovereignty and take it’s land from it. I’m saying that we have to reduce our emissions drastically and stop deforestation in the Amazon right now. And it wasn’t seasonal wildfires. It was those miners and loggers. They were the ones that set fire to the Amazon. They have been causing destruction to the Amazon in the name of greed, making it harder for the Amazon to fully recover.
Tem muitas ongs na Amazônia que praticam biopirataria e desmatamento devíamos fazer uma campanha pra investigar elas um por uma e ver de onde vem o dinheiro .

Thank you for providing new information and insight.

Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Kuddos. :)
This documentary is fresh air for the soul #life
All in the name of human greed

So when the last tree is cut down , what then ? Such insanity and madness !
Nobody cares. We won't be around.
Brazilians are the mixed people racially in the World. No wonder, they are positive and love life.
Dam the Amazon? There really is no saving this world....
It all starts in the name of progress, till greed takes over.
How do they not burn down the forest when they burn down the tractors??
We all are children of earth. What we are doing to her will cause severe repercussions, possibly even our demise. No amount of money nor status will keep people safe when mother nature is no longer here to help us.
The earth has no gender. Stop crying, Michael Jackson, nobody cares about the earth - we only care about ourselves and how comfortable our lives are. How long are you going to live like an ignoramus?
How on earth does the Brazilian Government doesn't know the importance of the Amazon? (or they know but pretends not to) We're already suffering so much, the consequence of this action will slowly present itself and the damage will be irreversible because nature is not a product of man it's alive (obviously can't be manipulated to go back as how it is whenever we feel like it)
Money, you laggard.
Who said the government doesn’t know the importance? Illegal occupation by land grabbers, corruption and greedy makes the forest police work difficult as the area is too large to control.
They know but they don't care

Ridiculous statement, partner. No wonder you guys have a fascist in the seat of Government.
You’re excusing the destruction of the Amazon Rainforest with false equivalencies, even with the evidence staring you in the face. Disgusting.

Yeh. They all mean PEASANTS.

It’s become real serious over there now. It’s not too late yet, but we really need to act fast on it. And I don’t think we can wait until October to put a stop to it.
Ok David Attenborough.
Also, is it possible to have rainwater tanks situated in parts of the Amazon? Like to help give it a boost to recovery?

Hello again folks.
Is there really nothing we can do :/
there's nothing that can be done to stop deforestation, because there always will be people and families who get their livelihood from this industry and no other opportunity are created because it favors the rich to keep things like this, enjoy life while you still can and don't make children, there's not gonna be a future for them.
Actually, there's a few things that we can do it.
drop tree seeds on the open areas and have road blocks
That's the way the cookies crumble
