Lovely to hear Frankie playing unaccompanied! Oh for a recording like that (please Frankie!). Can anyone list the tunes? Many thanks for putting this up. What a treat!
Thanks Ashley. We sorted through all the cuts from that performance and are posting another you'll enjoy. See Irish fiddle master Frankie Gavin, Part 3
Still the boss of fiddle playing. Been listening and playing since 86 and I never tire of listening to Frankie Gavin.
Yup, lovely to hear Frankie's fiddle on its own.
That's the way I like to hear him.. lovely..
Absolute genius James Morrison would be proud to hear the inimatable Frankie Gavin Brilliant
Wonderful Music Frankie. Life and Feeling
First heard him with DeDanann in the 1970s. At that time the band had 2 bouzouki players and a unique music box sound.

Thanks! The slow air on part 3 is marvellous. I'm trying to work out if he changed the tuning on his fiddle for that - do you have any idea?
Superb
John Doherty = Buddy Rich, Michael Coleman = Chick Webb, Sean Ryan = Neil Peart, Frankie Gavin = John Bonham, Sean Keane = Danny Carey.
Can somebody list the names of the tunes please?
Only Frankie knows.... and he's not telling :)

Is he playing with a non-standard tuning?
He often tunes his fiddle half a note sharp. Sounds like his fiddle's a little flat of that in this recording.
@@Umiale Yes, in fact he's almost half a tone sharp in this recording
