Good question! It’s always amazed me how similar and yet how different tenor banjo and 5 string banjo are - especially cause of the different playing styles. I’ve never played claw hammer myself, so it’s a bit of a dark art to me - maybe check out the banjo player Dan Walsh. I’ve heard him play Irish tunes claw hammer and do a great job of it! Sorry I can’t be more help! Happy picking! Or claw-ing!
Given that jigs are in 6/8 time, the first thing you need to do to play jigs in clawhammer style is alter your rhythm to match the jig rhythm. You might also try retuning your 5th string, to whatever note comes up most often in the melody, or to the root note of whichever key you're playing in.
It seems like there is a reverb on the jigs played with the banjo. Is this reverb added or is it natural to the instrument? Note: "St. Anee's Reel" looks amazing in your style. Thanks for sharing your art.
Thanks so much for your kind words and for stopping by :) there is a little bit of reverb added, but what you’re hearing is most likely the natural resonances of the banjo head - the top of the banjo is just like a drum skin, pulled tight, and it’s that which resonates and gives the notes their volume and characteristic banjo sound. Hopefully that makes sense! Thanks :)
@CelticFrets Yes, that makes sense. I didn't realize that the stretched skin not only increases, but actually sets a different resonance pattern than wood top instruments. Very nice.
They’re nicely presented, printable, all in the one place, with chords. I thought that might be worth something to somebody. Also all presented in DADGAE guitar tuning which I’m a big advocate of. No worries if they’re not for you, pleased you enjoyed the performances all the same :)
@CelticFretsfirst time I've seen this tuning, will have to try it. The top two strings in fifths make it closer to tenor banjo tuning. I play all these instruments but hadn't really seriously tried playing tunes on guitar
ジグの定番!
日本でもよく演奏されます。
The standards of jig!
These are played by Irish music lovers in Japan, too.
こんにちは! Thanks so much for stopping by :) amazing to think how far these tunes have travelled!
Nice Fella! ❤
Thanks Tim! :)
I do claw hammer style on banjo... I'm wondering how to transpose the same feel..🤔👍

Irish jigs can sound really amazing on clawhammer 5 string banjo.

Nice performances; but, REALLY? - $15 for 10 tabs that can be had for free? - Are you smoking coconuts?

I would like to know more about the coconut smoking. Does it improve the banjo playing to be as good as this? If so... Gets me some of these coconuts.
@F.Grinder haha it’s a little known fact that most great Irish musicians have terrible coconut habits! My monthly coconut budget is through the roof!
I meet a lady with big coconuts...😳

These are all the same song 😅
Dammit, you’ve rumbled me 😜
you haven't an ear for music if you think it's the same tune
