The one thing that shines through in all of these videos is how passionate Lud is about improving UA-cam as a streaming platform. I love how passionate he is about this.
As a more passive viewer that only goes on streams to watch what is going on without ever chatting, I find UA-cam way better just for the video player. Being able to pause, go back and resume where I left, even on my phone, and without addbreaks is so much more enjoyable.
idk, it annoys me more than it helps. If I quickly join a stream that is essentially a podcast, and I want to watch the whole thing later, it starts later and often resets to that point when you reload. Despite the higher bitrate, image quality is also worse thanks to youtube's compression
Agreed. I find that yt has always been better to view things from than twitch. Only thing Twitch has on yt for the watching experience is the small tab video thing on mobile for free which yt makes you pay up to use. Though Twitch with its 4 30 second ads kind of negates the joy of that
Yeah, I tend to struggle with hearing things properly, so being able to go back a couple seconds and hear the funny joke I didn’t understand is a lifesaver
It's funny because Ludwig is right and wrong at the same time about the first stream he sees (Kiara). She is not a Japanese streamer and streams almost exclusively in English, but her channel's region IS set to Japan just like every Hololive channel regardless if they stream in Japanese or not, so it actually SHOULDN'T be showing up in the tab for his region.
My educated guess is that the algorithm finds that she has a large US based viewers despite her channel is set to Japan region so it decided to show her stream on top. "Oh, this 'Japanese' channel is viewed by people in your region so much, maybe you'd be interested in this channel" kinda thing.
@@cabbage_cat It says outright, right on his screen: "Sorted by most viewers in your region" The sorting feature (at least in this instance) is clearly working as intended, and Ludwig is completely misinformed in this example.
@@SeeMyDolphin that confirms it then, what I would say is that it's a really cool algorithm to find what's popular on your area it's a cool variable aside from sort by view count, category, etc
Not just companies like YT/Twitch but all companies need harsh criticism to always do better. We love to hear and talk about the good points but never the bad points. These kind of comments is what can make a platform better and improve what is currently in place. So I do agree with you, YT should have Lud as a board member or give him better incentives because of his criticisms that can help YT or any other platform be better.
@@moxiemaxie3543 I think he only said that because UA-cam is so not in touch with what everyone, viewers and content creators alike, wants and needs. It really feels like they're not giving much to hear the voices of what runs their company.
@@LemonCloud420 All of hololive channels are set to japan. So he is kinda right, its based on what your region is watching not only show channels from your region
Lud's actually doing everything he can to bring about the best experience for his audience and other streamers of the platform. UA-cam's gotta really thank him one day.
One small thing I really appreciate about Twitch's website is that it always accurately saves your spot in a VOD if you close the tab. With UA-cam you get a 50/50 chance of whether it'll be pretty accurate or not even close.
in my personal experience with youtube recently, it saves my spot in a video pretty accurately (usually like 10-30 seconds behind where i left off after closing the tab) around like 80-90% of the time in the past though, like back in 2016, it was still quite inconsistent though, like 30% of the time my video spot gets saved properly
A pop-up request for hosting would be great. The streamer gets a notification that someone is trying to host them and they can either accept or deny it. This would stop hate raids and still allows you to uplift smaller / not in your immediate friend circle streamers. With a 5 min expiry timer, if not accepted than it gets automatically denied. Easy.
About the raid on yt i think they can totally do like a raid request where you send a request to the streamer you want to raid and the streamer decides either to accept the request or not. That way they can avoid the hate raids better than Twitch and make it quite easier to raid someone
I figure they could do it like privacy settings. By default, it lets anyone raid you, or you can change it to "People on my list" and add people to a list, or you can switch it to "No raids allowed".
It shows a flaw BOTH twitch and UA-cam have. There are people who target split audiences. Simply by having a Japanese title in the stream for her overseas fans it caused Lud to make a huge assumption.
2:16 even though Kiara is actually an english speaking streamer, there was actually a different problem with the system that Lud didn't point out and it's that he actually clicked on a stream that was already done. Kinda silly for the YT "Live" page to bring you to a stream that's already ended lmao
Also unlike twitch you can watch VOD on same link as stream was iirc. So if stream has been ended was result of link it means that it JUST ended... Like minute or 2 ago, because within 5 minutes it becomes replaced with VOD
As much as I think UA-cam does stupid stuff, from a developers perspective this is probably (don’t work for UA-cam so don’t know for sure) working 100% as expected and I’m actually on UA-cam’s side if that is the case. If you wanted it to have that sort of refresh, you’d be adding potentially millions of calls per second to UA-cam servers, just so that if a streamer happens to go offline when you are staring at this screen (and the majority of people don’t keep this page up long), it then refreshes and grabs new streams. That is a lot of work for a case that is at most a nuisance and rarely happens.
For me, the most annoying aspect is that I can’t switch the app and still have the livestream going like it is on twitch. I’m sure having a premium account would fix that but I wish that feature would exist for regular users too
You should probably look into the vtuber community, as they've solved some of the problems you've mentioned. For example, part of the directory thing is solved for corporate vtubers by having holodex, schedules, etc. Other example, the waiting room can be a 2024 stream called "free chat". (Also, kinda unrelated, but Kiara is an Austrian vtuber who streams in english😂)
Lud, Kiara is not Japanese. She's Austrian who works at a Japanese vtuber agency. she talks primarily in English and also can talk fluently in German and Japanese
“Is a Japanese streamer” well, he is right… by like a third 😂 Kiara speaks Japanese English and German and usually puts a combination of them in her titles. No idea about that one though XD but still very right I’d insta click off that tab if I saw a bunch of other languages
Killer feature is to load multiple streamers together in one tab so you can see everybody without switching back and forth between tabs. If YT is going to buy whole friend groups to move over they need to do something to foster this.
Bro that'd be so dope. I'll have Rae, Sykkuno, Ludwig, and Hasan open at the same time sometimes. It's a bit of a bother but I want to see all their reactions together.
That would be so easy! Just let the user group people, let's say the Ludwig crew or Among US crew or OTK and just let me start up all of them right from there (muted of course). Even I could program something like that in a weekend!
as for now if you want to do this manually there's a pop up feature on opera gx that basically creates a small separate window for a player and you can drag it around, just open multiple tabs, drag all of them on another monitor, and you'll get yourself a security camera kind of interface where you can watch multiple streams you can pop up the chat too IIRC, or you can use a third party extension for this, but yeah having these without doing it manually would be cool idk about other browsers but this should be a basic feature (I'm not paid by opera gx)
squad streaming has been a thing on twitch for a hot minute and its literal garbage. same thing with TV and showing multiple channels at once. sounds good but isn't good.
The frustrating part is that UA-cam used to have a ton of customization options. Setting your default video quality if it was available, changing your youtube channel link to a custom one. At one point they made a dedicated editing feature, you could do primitive video stabilization, clickable end links (that sent to outside links) all removed. The excuse for all this being consistency, but all this is doing is ensuring that the phone experience is significantly worse because they don't have extensions, that fix the glaring problems that youtube has caused trying to "simplify".
One thing I have also noticed is the terrible notifications from youtube. If a streamer schedules a stream less than 30 minutes before they start, I often don't get notified at all, some times I get notified after the stream ends or 2 hours into the stream. This must be fixed asap.
As someone who didn't start watching streamers until I found Valkyrae on UA-cam, it's really interesting to hear the perspective of those who started with Twitch. I always preferred the livestream experience here because 1) no ads 2) ability to pause and return or even rewind. I never found it hard to keep up either because of notifications. But I've never been much of a chatter and I think that may be the big difference maker.
Strongly prefer UA-cam, due to the upvotes you generally see better quality opinions as opposed to repetitive emotes and spams from twitch chat. Also pause/rewind/play as you mentioned but also the ability to watch at faster speeds is a big thing for me
I remember the first time that I watched a livestream in YT, which was Technoblade in Minecraft Mondays. His page just showed up as I was looking for Pewdiepie vids.
One thing I don't like about YT Live is that they use the exact same designs as YT. I don't know if they do this to not pay people to create new design components, or if they just want to make the Live section have the typical YT look. But for example, the Live and Gaming section literally just uses the design as someone's UA-cam Profile, and it makes me think that wanting to use the exact same design for YT videos and YT Streams could be holding them back a bit.
I'm actually all for the unified look, just my opinion. YT has been my main social media for years and I like that they just keep beefing the site with features that fit in with the exprerience
@@rowtechshio875 Yeah familiarity is actually a great component to have among UA-cam's different sections to allow for seamless transitions, they just need to improve the functionality and make it easier to what you're looking for on Live
Small criticism. That "Japanese streamer" at 2:15 is an English streamer. She's part of Hololive which was originally a Japanese streaming group, but she's part of their English branch.
The fact that chats are saved and played in VODs tells us that chats ARE there, so what's the deal there? For those who have never streamed or modded, member chatlogs are SUPER useful in that it helps you view if a user is a repeat offender or maybe just new and didn't read the rules (warning vs timeout/ban) among other things. Maybe it's an issue with YT's current privacy and ToS where they need to change the verbiage due to how user data would be displayed to mods/streamers? Regardless, this seems like a basic tool for a successful streaming platform. I think you're right that YT just gave up due to how badly they have handled YT comments in the past. I like how they added more monetization features before fixing the core function of the app. Gotta make that money first.
One thing I despise about Twitch that UA-cam (luckily) doesn't do, is that Twitch puts your VODs on a timer for how long you get to keep them before they're gone forever. It used to be two weeks for non-partners and/or people who don't have Twitch Prime, but recently they decided to be worse to non-affiliates and slice those two weeks into one week. Found that out the hard way due to only recently going back to streaming, and lost a four-hour stream that I put a lot into.
Hey Lud-- just wanted to let you know, that first streamer you put on actually is an English streamer! her name is Kiara & she's a talent with hololive's english branch of talent. While holo is a Japanese company, they have branches in many different regions. Other than that, great vid as always ☺️
@@NicoNicoNessieSub yeah but she streams primarily in English so it makes sense it's recommended in the context of Luds criticism. Maybe UA-cam should implement a system to change primary language per stream with a default you can set
CORRECTION: That top "japanese" streamer was actually Takanashi Kiara of Hololive ENGLISH. While she speaks japanese, she is Austrian and streams in English. So her stream being there was actually correct, and to anyone who sees this, she is an AMAZING streamer, easily one of the best on the platform, and you should 100% check her out sometime! Side note: for anyone struggling to connect the dots on who she is, she is genmates with Gawr Gura, the biggest vtuber in the world, and they both debuted alongside one another. Side side note: im surprised ludwig doesnt know who Kiara is. Shes got 1.4 million subs, and is in the top 30 most superchatted people on youtube.
@@reislinlittle4715 a LOT of vtubers don't behave that way, actually. some do, which is fine, but for the actual streamers it's a great way to still have a visual personality without having to show your face. so for people who wanna stay faceless it's really nice. there are vtubers who show their face or their face is at least known to the public, but most are 100% faceless ^^ for the viewers, i imagine it's because the models are more appealing to look at. for some people it fulfills their "anime waifu" fantasy, which CAN be dangerous but usually is pretty harmless as long as it's an adult, and for some people they just think it's a neat industry with a lot of amazing personalities and it gives jobs to a lot of artists, especially amateur artists who struggle to find a way to make money in the art industry :D

Regarding 8:44, it doesn't even work properly because the Uploads option also includes all live streams, so there's no way to filter for just videos. Additionally (not related to streaming but still annoying), you can't sort videos by oldest or most viewed on music channels
Thank you Mr. Mogul Mail for having your video be the perfect length for eating a whole extra large bacon and sausage pizza in one sitting alone on a Saturday night crashing at my parent's house without their knowledge while they are on vacation and watching the Netflix Dahmer special.
Clips on YT don't seem as bad as you're putting it. You can't download clips on Twitch either natively but there's extensions that will let you do it for both. Other than that the clip only existing unless the vod is privated makes sense for me at least in case the streamer wants to get rid of all clips of something that happened for privacy reasons (if you want to avoid that, download the clip before it gets taken down). Also the spiffing brit has a great video about how the schedule live system on YT can be exploited since it recommends your stream to a lot of people if you perpetually keep delaying the broadcast. It explains the system very well but is a very niche "feature" and exists as an unintentional bug so it probably doesn't deserve much credit. Other than that I'd say all of your criticisms about the UA-cam streaming experience are pretty on point, but I doubt things will change drastically any time soon.
If u goto the customization on your YT channel u can setup the upcoming livestream function and they will pop up whenever you schedule them. Also live chat replay can be toggled on as well so you can see your chat after your streams, its in the backend of the YT streaming setup functions.
It ended just before he clicked. It says streamed 6 hours ago, meaning the stream started 6 hours ago. And if you look at the vod length, it's exactly 6 hours long.
If I want to find livestreams of my subscriptions, you can just go to your subscription tab. Livestreams will appear at the top of your list, so I don’t think that’s a problem
I found it a little funny when he went to Kiara's stream and said that she's japanese. Even though she's an english speaking streamer. It made me laugh a bit.
You should make a video on Michael DiCostanzo and how his bracket live streams are taking over TikTok, it's a super interesting and fun concept and I'm surprised other creators haven't replicated it yet.
youtube once upon a time had an “offline chat”-ish system. they’ve tried reinventing it with yt communities. imo it doesn’t work. like one of the top comments on this post, i usually watch streams to see what’s going on/to have something on; i don’t chat much even on twitch. but for those who do want to chat both when in stream and in offline chat, there should be a more accessible and cohesive way to merge that.
Im assuming a lot of people told you, but Kiara streams in English (she's European tho so tecnically still not your region) Also, love how you said Twitch when u meant Yotube multiple times, this is why we love Mogul Mail Guy
I remember one day back in 2018, the UA-cam home page had an entire section for livestreams for some reason, which I thought was really cool. I noticed one of the streams it was recommending me was of a blind playthrough of Kingdom Hearts 1: Final Mix, so I clicked on it and thus discovered a channel that I came to enjoy. All because UA-cam briefly had a section for livestreams for some random reason. I don't know why it was there or why they removed it, but they should add it back.
unsure if you noticed or if im misunderstanding - but the raid thing has been updated. when i go to check for "live redirects", there's now a toggle for "all channels can redirect to my content" which makes things nicer - at least now we have a twitch analog alongside the safe whitelist alternative method
I guess it doesn’t go for everyone but I’ve always LOVED scheduled streams. My streamer doesn’t always pre-plan their week or make announcements before a stream goes live but they’ll always schedule streams beforehand and when I see it, it allows me to plan my day around it and never miss a single second by making sure I’m not caught off guard by anything coming up while I watch
Yeah I don't think anyone thinks scheduled streams are necessarily a problem in a vacuum, they're just a notification really. The problem is that its being used instead of other features rather than in addition to, and limiting peoples access to the livestream page and chats. If they just kept it as a notification system but added the functionality Ludwig mentions here I think it would be better in that regard
2:12 Bad news - Takanashi Kiara is from Hololive-EN. EN meaning English. It's right there in her name homie. You would have been better clicking on the stream to the right, because I have no idea what the hell that was
I feel the thing is that Twitch is mainly around streaming, so ofc it has to put in alot of effort+make streams really easy to notice, while youtube is much more about videos, so trying to balance streams into a website that is mainly about videos, it is a bit of a problem, thats also the reason why twitch doesn't struggle with it due to the fact they aren't trying to integrate videos into the site either, they have it as a side sure, but barely anybody uses it or cares about it.
yo mogul mail, thought i'd let you know that there is a way to have offline chat albeit a bit inconvenient, what you can do is set up a livestream now and schedule it for like a year from now and title it free chat or whatever, a lot of vtubers that i know do this and although it doesn't disprove your point it's a good way to combat that problem.
Problem with the 1 take video is that he didn't do quite enough research and made an assumption about Kiara being a japanese streamer when she bilingual and primarily english.
@@galador8089 I believe it's not working properly, but presenting evidence that is supposed to mean one thing but it's another isn't gonna help. It only serves people already in the echo chamber and not people who don't know about the issues.
I do think his ability to do it is impressive, but it does his pride in doing it lets in some mistakes like the above and like him calling youtube by twitch's name
the main issue is that UA-cam is a VOD (video not live stream vod) site that also has live streaming, whereas Twitch is only a live stream site. The infrastructure is completely different
The setting "Sorted by most viewers in your region" in the Live categories isn't about the region of the streamers, but the region of the people watching the stream. It's a very important distinction. Kiara streams in english, but even if she were streaming in japanese, as long as she had the highest viewership FROM U.S. VIEWERS, then she would top the category all the same. You could make the argument that it's a not a good way of doing things (I don't completely agree) but it's another matter entirely. I just wanted to correct this.
I did my first redirect today! I turned it on for myself today too! I'm glad that someone made more people aware of redirects in this video. I wish it was easier to find people in the game I play so I can redirect them to similar people and potentially make connections with the people I redirect to, but with UA-cam's current discoverability system it's just really difficult.
I actually love Lud’s idea that from UA-cam shorts you are recommended streams, I think that would be crazy and really help streamers discoverability, making UA-cam a much more desirable platform for creators.
As someone who sometimes watches shorts, no I hate that idea and it would make watching shorts suck. Keep everything where it needs to be, unless they want to add random streams to the stories cause I don’t care about those
I don't watch shorts but i think this is dumb idea In page, where all content is about minute long you suddenly get absolutely not fitting few hours long lasting stream without context and result. People who look shorts won't.be interested in long content, otherwise they would've not been looking for SHORTS specifically
i hate it, i want to watch shorts and not watch live, dont recommend me that shit i didnt ask for. sane with tiktok, i always press don't show again whenever i see a live
Twitch has also messed this up somewhat by adding another button you have to click on a streamers page just to see chat, when it used to load automatically. I know everyone has a Discord now but nothing beats an active offline chat.
at 2:19 you arent exactly correct. That is kiara, a hololive EN vtuber. She however does streams in Japanese sometimes which is why the title is in Japanese
Once again, great video Lud!! Also this came on a really good timing for me! I've been doing a crazy research on which platform to livestream on and I'm just going nuts with all the crazy drama and settings of each platform
I agree that youtube is bad at serving lives. they are a video site trying to do live streaming too. You can't expect youtube to look like twitch tho, they still need to be youtube. they are a video site trying to do livestreaming without completely changing the entirety of their platform. maybe add a tab thats livestreaming next to the explore tab that can change based on viewer habits but, I still do think that *relatively*, streaming is sort of its own bubble and a small one too. you don't go to twitch like you go to youtube expecting fast paced well cut content, and its going to be hard to get people on youtube to have the attention span for the slower and just different vibe of streaming, and if the bubble is small enough, maybe its not worth it to youtube to make this golden streaming platform. although they are taking on more and more creators from twitch, like you said they aren't just going for any streamers, theyre going for like otv and only bubbles because trying to make the platform as a whole more streamer friendly is a little unfair
I know people have already touched on this, but I also wanted to chime in on the GTA stream Lud highlighted. That yes, the tags she was using included Japanese tags but as others have noted she herself is part of an English branch of that Vtuber company and the stream was primarily in English (she speaks several languages and has fun flexing them a bit, with German being her mother tongue iirc). Also the rest of the title and description was in English, but I also understand you were taking a quarter second glance at it to prove your point and move on (which I also agree with). So while yes, that stream was inclusive of people outside of Lud's region that it was appropriately placed in the browser. That being said, I would love to see UA-cam make a lot of improvements so keep it up :)
I think the main thing about the different languages will never be solved, and the only solutions are doing something based on sorting by languages, which would still be difficult and could be easily subverted. YT streamers from other countries could lie about their location quite easily, just because they know the US is a bigger target than where they're from
I think part of it is that live streamers are set up to compete with algorithmically curated content that, comparatively, appeals to the reduced attention span of the modern audience. Whereas on twitch the only things there, are live streams sorted exactly how you mention in the beginning of the video.
Funny how everybody forgets that UA-cam had a seperate streaming platform (UA-cam Gaming). If anything, the discoverability during these 7(!) years has not improved or even got worse. They could've and should've improved their seperate platform. Me and I imagine most other people clearly seperate between a video and a stream. They are two completely different experiences and I don't think you should mix them like UA-cam does. I bet pretty much none of the viewers on livestreams come from the Gaming or Livestream section, but most of them from their subscriptions and thus from their homepage. Maybe Shorts is more important for UA-cam now and they've kinda shoved livestreams to the side for now.
I feel like people gotta remember. UA-cam more recently started focusing on steaming and twitch is ONLY for stream and for many years now giving them exp. Yt has other things to focus on too and a lot of people on yt either never watch streams or are new to streaming so i think we need a Lil patience and hopefully it will become better eventually. Not to say that what Ludwig said was invalid, just saying that we know how yt is to fixing things in general, so this night take a while
This is absolutely not true. They've been in the market since 2015, with the creation of UA-cam Gaming as a division and separate app. It's the main reason there are so many issues with live streaming. It stemmed from when the app and main initiative were shut down in 2019, right before the pandemic helped start a new renaissance regarding Gaming content. YT Gaming was essentially an inferior Twitch and curbed gaming content to this portion of the site and app, which essentially killed gaming videos on YT for a while. Live-streaming hasn't really improved since then, only the ability to actually do it on the site.
I thought that the region sorting sorted by what's popular in your region rather than who is in your region. I know a lot of streamers that don't focus on their own region's audience. I mean (and sorry if my info is outdated, I haven't kept up with him) would it not be weird if pewdiepie only showed up in Italy for the region sorting when he's not an Italian streamer, he doesn't speak Italian in his streams, and his audience is mostly outside Italy. It makes sense to me that the region sorter shows you who your region watches. (Oh and btw that first streamer you called Japanese is an English speaking streamer, but I understand you got confused by that Japanese hashtag in the stream title)
Mogul Mail, you should do a colab with the UA-camr/Streamer Ludwig. Y’all have similar ideas and it would be a nice PR bump for working with such a small streamer. Any expenses could be written off as a donation, too. It helps to work with small creators!
Hey Lud, just wanted to point out that the first "Japanese" streamer that you pointed out for GTA is actually Kiara, an English Vtuber from Hololive's English branch. She speaks Japanese and German too, but she mainly streams in English. Still agree with all of your points though.
I remember UA-cam streamers talking about directly working with engineers on the UA-cam team and how excited they were about the features that were coming…. 3-5 years ago….
I'd argue that there isn't as much interactions between UA-cam streaming and chat. Like, paying for Brian to say some funny tts or using channel points to interact with the streamer. I've always held that it allowed chat to adopt a personality that can lead to funny interactions with their streamer.
They should make a "Live" tab, and just have it be like twitch, so its much easier. They are trying to integrate it into the normal UA-cam website but it just doesn't work.
I think the way it’s set up rn is that it expects you to discover livestreams through a UA-cam video. Like if someone is streaming and I get algod their video, it says the person is live so I can go in
Arguably the single most important user-facing feature: Can I pause/resume/seek a stream? Can I rely on VODs to be there to catch up later? Twitch fails the basics.
Small correction. You were highlighting Takanashi Kiara when saying that youtube recommends "japanese videos instead of regional content". But Kiara streams basically only to an english audience, so that's the algorythm actually working as intended.
@@undeadman7676 It's "Sorted by most viewers in your region" so nope. Most people from the US were watching her stream in this category. It is the algorithm working as intended, Ludwig just misunderstood how it worked.

Who’s lud
One small thing I really appreciate about Twitch's website is that it always accurately saves your spot in a VOD if you close the tab. With UA-cam you get a 50/50 chance of whether it'll be pretty accurate or not even close.
in my personal experience with youtube recently, it saves my spot in a video pretty accurately (usually like 10-30 seconds behind where i left off after closing the tab) around like 80-90% of the time
in the past though, like back in 2016, it was still quite inconsistent though, like 30% of the time my video spot gets saved properly
You can still do hate raids without that. When jidion sent his viewers to pokimane he didn't raid anyone. It was just a verbal ask
I like the idea of having a prompt pop up that asks if you'd like to accept a raid from someone!
I figure they could do it like privacy settings. By default, it lets anyone raid you, or you can change it to "People on my list" and add people to a list, or you can switch it to "No raids allowed".
I feel like that'd also help with the awkwardness of when you're just about to end stream and someone comes in to raid you

Opens Kiara’s stream:
“Top stream is a Japanese streamer”.
That comment is bound to affect a few people
It shows a flaw BOTH twitch and UA-cam have. There are people who target split audiences. Simply by having a Japanese title in the stream for her overseas fans it caused Lud to make a huge assumption.
There's just no fucking way
Well, he unintentionally summon the KFP employees with that sentence. 😂
2:16 even though Kiara is actually an english speaking streamer, there was actually a different problem with the system that Lud didn't point out and it's that he actually clicked on a stream that was already done. Kinda silly for the YT "Live" page to bring you to a stream that's already ended lmao
pretty sure that happens on twitch too, it's probably that the page hasn't updated aka he opened the tab a while ago
Also unlike twitch you can watch VOD on same link as stream was iirc.
So if stream has been ended was result of link it means that it JUST ended... Like minute or 2 ago, because within 5 minutes it becomes replaced with VOD
Yeah he would have opened that tab when the stream was live and it ended before he recorded this video
He opened the tab prior to recording this video and the stream probably ended in the meantime
7:55 Chat spamming no is peak comedy
For me, the most annoying aspect is that I can’t switch the app and still have the livestream going like it is on twitch. I’m sure having a premium account would fix that but I wish that feature would exist for regular users too
You should probably look into the vtuber community, as they've solved some of the problems you've mentioned. For example, part of the directory thing is solved for corporate vtubers by having holodex, schedules, etc. Other example, the waiting room can be a 2024 stream called "free chat".
Even I could program something like that in a weekend!
as for now if you want to do this manually there's a pop up feature on opera gx that basically creates a small separate window for a player and you can drag it around, just open multiple tabs, drag all of them on another monitor, and you'll get yourself a security camera kind of interface where you can watch multiple streams
you can pop up the chat too IIRC, or you can use a third party extension for this, but yeah having these without doing it manually would be cool
idk about other browsers but this should be a basic feature (I'm not paid by opera gx)
Twitch has this feature and nobody uses it
squad streaming has been a thing on twitch for a hot minute and its literal garbage. same thing with TV and showing multiple channels at once. sounds good but isn't good.
RIGHT omg it's not just me
As someone who didn't start watching streamers until I found Valkyrae on UA-cam, it's really interesting to hear the perspective of those who started with Twitch. I always preferred the livestream experience here because 1) no ads 2) ability to pause and return or even rewind. I never found it hard to keep up either because of notifications. But I've never been much of a chatter and I think that may be the big difference maker.
I agree. Personally, I definitely prefer twitch when chatting, but if I’m just lurking, UA-cam is generally better.
Strongly prefer UA-cam, due to the upvotes you generally see better quality opinions as opposed to repetitive emotes and spams from twitch chat. Also pause/rewind/play as you mentioned but also the ability to watch at faster speeds is a big thing for me
If you are a chatter twitch is better, the UI is better the chat is much more enjoyable, there is a culture in twitch chat.
@@rowtechshio875 this tbh. It’s not the UI that is an issue, it’s pretty much just the functionality.

ah yes the floor here is made out of the floor
@@rowtechshio875 Yeah familiarity is actually a great component to have among UA-cam's different sections to allow for seamless transitions, they just need to improve the functionality and make it easier to what you're looking for on Live
I don't understand why that matters? Are people getting confused and lost on the page?

Also live chat replay can be toggled on as well so you can see your chat after your streams, its in the backend of the YT streaming setup functions.

youtube once upon a time had an “offline chat”-ish system. they’ve tried reinventing it with yt communities. imo it doesn’t work. like one of the top comments on this post, i usually watch streams to see what’s going on/to have something on; i don’t chat much even on twitch. but for those who do want to chat both when in stream and in offline chat, there should be a more accessible and cohesive way to merge that.

Kiara, the Japanese streamer is an english speaking streamer who is most popular in the west.

I feel the thing is that Twitch is mainly around streaming, so ofc it has to put in alot of effort+make streams really easy to notice, while youtube is much more about videos, so trying to balance streams into a website that is mainly about videos, it is a bit of a problem, thats also the reason why twitch doesn't struggle with it due to the fact they aren't trying to integrate videos into the site either, they have it as a side sure, but barely anybody uses it or cares about it.

the main issue is that UA-cam is a VOD (video not live stream vod) site that also has live streaming, whereas Twitch is only a live stream site.
I found a couple of streamers from their Shorts so it's definitely an option
As someone who sometimes watches shorts, no I hate that idea and it would make watching shorts suck. Keep everything where it needs to be, unless they want to add random streams to the stories cause I don’t care about those

You can see live streamers in your subfeed. Idk why people consider the subfeed gone, I still use it every day.
What has twitch added... shows what youtube added :D
Love the content Lud, just had to point that out 6:05
I think the main thing about the different languages will never be solved, and the only solutions are doing something based on sorting by languages, which would still be difficult and could be easily subverted. YT streamers from other countries could lie about their location quite easily, just because they know the US is a bigger target than where they're from
it would still curve the amount of random streams from different regions
6:06 - Ludwig wouldn’t confuse the two platforms’ names.
Yeah he is def not Lud
_"The top stream is a Japanese streamer."_
Hololive English, well known Japanese streamers.
Jake the editor is really the king of seamless transitions
Hey Lud, just wanted to point out that the first "Japanese" streamer that you pointed out for GTA is actually Kiara, an English Vtuber from Hololive's English branch. She speaks Japanese and German too, but she mainly streams in English. Still agree with all of your points though.
Won't go to deep into it but Kiara is an English streamer LOL. Literally under the branch of HOLOLIVE EN as in English.
Small correction: The first gaming liver he showed ( kiara) is an English and Japanese streamer.
They should make a "Live" tab, and just have it be like twitch, so its much easier. They are trying to integrate it into the normal UA-cam website but it just doesn't work.
Ah yes, my favorite Japanese streamer, Takanashi Kiara from Hololive English. :P
Twitch fails the basics.
ludwig is so passionate about fixing youtube live that he's got me sitting here taking notes like i'm a gd youtube product manager or something
Lud always hitting us with the right field takes.
Small correction. You were highlighting Takanashi Kiara when saying that youtube recommends "japanese videos instead of regional content". But Kiara streams basically only to an english audience, so that's the algorythm actually working as intended.
She sets her region to Japan, so no, it isn't the algorithm working as intended.
@@undeadman7676 It's "Sorted by most viewers in your region" so nope. Most people from the US were watching her stream in this category. It is the algorithm working as intended, Ludwig just misunderstood how it worked.
The main thing I love about twitch is that I can watch a stream in player in player mode on my iPhone where as on UA-cam i think it’s hidden by a pay wall
One issue I have with using truffle is when you chat it doesn't appear in the live chat. I tried many times to type something and the message doesn't appear for others.
Ludwig's switching up on Twitch faster than Dr Disrespect got banned
