  • Real world range test - Does the Betso Bowtie offer an improvement in the real world?
Join Doz on a walk with a Wisycom MCR54 quad receiver and a MTP40S transmitter, comparing the standard whip antenna and the Betso Bowtie for receive range.
As you'll see, not only does the Betso offer an improved range, but getting the antennas out of the bag would reduce any risk of overload from bag mounted camera links or noise from bag mounted gear. So it's a win win!

There's a slight RF interference at 7.05 min when you turn around, It's not a drop out but it ruins the audio if the person is talking, even though these bowties are an amazing performance for their cost

Put the Tx the other side of the body, under cloth next time. That’s more practical test. That make it short in range by a lot.

This was supposed to show the benefit of a dipole antenna located out of the bag over the whips on the RX. It was not intended to be a test of absolute range, therefore the difference you see would be proportionally the same even if overall range were reduced due to TX antenna placement.

    That's insane.

Thanks for the review. Can I work with just one betso bowtie to my Lectro Src?

I’ve been considering a flagpole option where I would mount two Betso bowties about 7 feet in the air. Would it be OK for me to place one about 8 inches directly above the other on the pole? Or is it important that they be spaced horizontally from each other rather than vertically?

Hi Jack, the antennas being spaced out vertically rather than horizontally shouldn't be a problem!

Hello sir, sorry to bother you with this product being released for so long. I'm a location sound mixer from China, what I want to ask is whether this product can be powered? Because I don't have a multi-channel receiver like yours, I use many receivers with a Chinese-made psc splitter, so when the betso bowtie antenna is connected, my receiver does not have any signal gain change, but once I turn it on The power on the pcs distributor, the signal of my receiver is very stable, but will it damage the Betso Bowtie Antenna?

Thanks for the test. I guess its not only the antennas, but also the favourable placement. The whip antennas were quite close to the body by being inside the mixpre in the bag. Which TX and compander settings were used this time around? Quite impressive range for a bag solution indeed

Thanks for your comment. The TX was set to 50mW 'wide' and the compander was set to ENR. The squelch setting on the MCR54 was set to long range.
