  • Welcome to another great Raycom walk test as we test the operating range of the new Shure ADX5D receiver!
The ADX5 is a slot-in camera receiver for the Axient Digital platform, opening up the whole Axient Digital portfolio to location sound recordists and offering ShowLink capability.
We use two ADX5D receivers - one in a bag using whip antennas at ground level and one at Raycom HQ connected to fixed antennas - with Raycom's very own tame RF guru, Pyers Easton, walking two Shure transmitters, the ADX1 and ADX1M!
The ADX1M is being used at 20mW and utilises an internal helical antenna - the ADX1 is set to 40mW and uses a 1/4 wave whip antenna. These were being received on 1/4 wave whips in the bag and passive log periodic antennas in the studio fed with 5m of LMR400 cable so less than 1dB loss to the RX inputs.
We were incredibly impressed with the performance of the setup, but what do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
Please note this is not a test of audio quality, instead the focus is on RF performance
