This is the full video with bonus interviews with surviving band members and Robert Hunter at the end
This video was flagged as being "720p" but was obviously not a true 720p because there were interlacing artifacts which were not from a "720i" recording.
I did a bunch of work on it in vegas pro, and with other video editing software to get rid of the interlacing, which involved initially DOWNSCALING the video to native resolution to get to the stated "30p" then went through a couple upscaling phases to get to 1080P resolution using some ai interpolation.
If this had been a real "720p" video, I would have aimed for 4k, but it wasn't worth it given how much repair work had to be done to get to this level.
I used the original production soundboard on this.
Yes, I've already done the DVD. I am not sure what the source of this one was, but it was different than the DVD source. If anyone knows -- please let me know. There was obviously some kind of online or offline release of this show with the interviews outside of the release DVD.

The Jerry Garcia band was the best kept secret in the music business. If everybody knew how good it was we wouldn’t have had all those intimate shows at those small venues. It was really only the folks that were deeply embedded in the core of the Garcia world that would show up. G💀D was obviously amazing but those Jerry Garcia Band shows took me to some spaces that touched my heart so deeply.
Hey now, Chris...Same. I lived in the Mission district of SF between 1985 and 1996 (moved to SF to live near the Dead☺️) and we used to walk to the Warfield to see Jerry. It was church. It was the real freaking deal. Some of the very best times...ever. NFA!🌹⚡️💜
@@peggyw22 I would drive up from L.A. all the time when I wasn’t already there or on tour anyway. My Warfield was the Wiltern Theatre. One JGB show at the Wiltern in November of 1990 sticks out in my mind as being the best show I ever had. It was so good. Everything was perfect and was high as a kite on blotter. I completely lost myself in the dancing.Pure bliss! We lived about 30 minutes from there. There’s some thing about being comfortable at your house and just being able to walk out the door drive a little bit and go see a show. ✌🏼

so on Sept 1, 1990 I was living very close to the Shoreline Amphitheater ... had tix to see the Grateful Dead that night ... was excited about it as the time got closer...but just over a month before, at the end of July 1990, Brent Mydland died (may he RIP) ... we didn't know what was going to happen ... we were told to hold onto our tickets and show up, that there was going to be something happening, they just didn't know what ... got there and found my seat up front, right across from the stage, and then witnessed a Jerry Garcia Band show for my first time ... for me it was one of the best shows that I ever attended and one of the better times of my life ... loved the show, and loved then and will always love Jerry Garcia ! ... Love is real, not fade away ...

This was my first Jerry show. I had just spent a week backpacking in Trinity Alps and this show was the day after I got home. Dosed and found it so strange that the night before I was in the middle of the wilderness with maybe 5 people within 10 miles of me to about 5,000 people at shoreline. I was just struck by the contrast. Was with a bunch of good friends and had a great time. It was a perfect summer night in the Bay Area. Will always miss those times. Had nothing to my name and not a care in the world.
Happened to me and Kansas City Missouri sandstone stadium 199 2 or 1 don't remember but I was taken care of thank you hippies

That's awesome! I graduated from HSU in 1989 and one of my first jobs was as a back-country ranger for the US Forest Service. I lived in Weaverville and worked in the Trinity Alps Wilderness. I have lots of great memories and stories about my adventures there... Up there, you can pick Psilocybe cyanescens pretty much anywhere you can find wood chips after a rain :)

Sometimes I don't listen to Jerry for awhile and I get surprised at how much emotion I feel when listening to his music. I feel so much I remember that I can listen to his music all day and be quite uplifted:)

totally agree. I call it surrendering your soul. Not in a submissive way, but being absolutely open and defenseless to letting the sound wash over you.
I have a solid listening experience by filling my time with The Beatles, The Band, CSNY, Mark Knopfler, pre 80s Elton John, Floyd (solo work Inc.).. but without question I return home to JGB or Dead. I've been playing Bass for 6 years and I love Khan because I can wrap my head around his licks but Phil.. I can't wrap my head around Phil. He's my Coltrane. Supremely original.
It's a contagious feeling that he projects from his guitar.
This is just such a lovely.way to start a sunny Saturday morning. I miss Jer.

JGB in a handful of small venues. The Golden Bear , few times. A weird cowboy joint in Riverside CA , where the band bluw the roof off the place, with a 20 minute Sugary . One of those things , you had to be there . The whole place rockin,

I feel truly privileged to have seen them.
I love Jerry's "rough" vocals during this period. He shows that you don't need a trained or virtuosic voice to sing with heart and soul. A consummate musician.
Jerry was a trained singer. He and the rest of the singing members of the dead took many vocal lessons. Couldn’t have done Reckoning or American Beauty without them.
He was trained early on and he’s an underrated vocalist in my opinion but cigarettes in the 80/ wrecked his voice. He was able to overcome it in his own way. And I love it. His voice got better in 1993 when he stopped smoking so much. Evidence of this can be found on the delightful Grisman collaboration NOT FOR KIDS ONLY. It’s a must.
@@sirbergersworth My friend, Jerry was a professional only in that he was paid for what he did - in GD they are all voiceless, one worse than the other and this spoils the whole impression of the music - the only person who at least somehow tried to sing is keyboardist Brent Midland
@@user-ez7qd6oc1w jerry and bob knew how to sing. Jerrys voice just wouldnt always allow it. But he knew how to do it. You can hear his voice breaking at times but i think thats 80% his excessive smoking

I agree. And I tend to hold the belief that he was truly the only guitarist that could make a guitar weep. It could sound painful but it could sound beautiful and even euphoric. Jerry did it all, bravely explored every feeling. He could receive signals from the crowd and his fellow band members. And that affected his playing too. He truly gave it his all, raw emotion, no holds barred. Tearjerker songs for sure. While I listen to basically all types of music… No other guitarist has been able to move me spiritually, emotionally, and even physically, the way he has.
"Lucky Old Sun" does it for me. Every. Single. Time. So much soulfulness and power from everyone in the band and for everyone who hears it. I saw JGB with Jerry at the Longshoreman's Hall in SF quite a while back and I thought Melvin was going to knock his Hammond over! I was in Heaven! My wife and I got to see Melvin and JGB a few weeks ago at Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael. As great as it was, it's just not the same without Jerry.

This is one of the most magical music experiences, even years later. Just watching Jerry smile so much is awesome.
What an amazing performance. Both I Shall Be Released Guitar Solos brought tears to my eyes, the second solos had tears streaming down my face. I have never had this reaction to music before finding Jerry.
I was at this show and was always blown away by JGB! To me, it was like going to church. The music was, and is, so healing if you let it.
I watched the reflection of Jerry singing on my TV as it bounced off a poster frame in my living room; I took a photo and was going to text my mom asking if she sees Jerry's reflection... As I type reflection it is sung by him in one of his songs. I threw my phone across the room and began having a complete out of body experience understanding that I was on a path to listen to one of the best musical performances in my life.

Loving the bromance between Jerry and Melvin. Really noticeable moments back and forth during "How sweet it is". It's adorable. They are just having a blast up there. This is the only Jerry Band/Dead show that I can watch post-1977. After he got on the H it just gets too sad to watch. This must've been that early 90s period of sobriety. Goddamn the sick riffs he is throwing out there during the Prudence jam is just phenomenal! Special shit! Love you, miss you Fat man!
Go watch Duke 78 in all its black and white glory (Voodoonola channel). It's a barn burner, Jerry is possibly the most animated I've ever seen him (practically shouting the lyrics to U.S Blues and high kicking during a particularly great Bertha/Good Lovin and the Eyes of the World is primo. Cheers
Had the pleasure of seeing Jerry/Merle a few times. The many iterations of his band never skipped a beat. Loved playing with John Kahn and Nicky Hopkins. Keith & Donna too.

Jerry was just absolutely incredible. He had two bands that were just fire fire fire!! Wish I was born 20 years earlier and wasn’t just 14 when Jerry died. Missed out on seeing him by a summer. Wasn’t allowed to leave town to see shows until 96. :(

It's hard to believe I'm 42 and still missed out on Dead shows. I was just a little bit too young to go. They toured through my hometown of Memphis in 95. Jerry passed not too much longer after that concert. I've always loved Jerry. One of my regrets is that I missed out on seeing him live. Maybe I'll see him in the next life. God bless him.

My first 2 Dead shows were those 2 in Memphis in '95. The pyramid is now a Bass Pro Shop!
I just turned 52 and was lucky to go to my 1st show at MSG in 1987 at 17 yrs old...a life changing experience..by 93-94 I stopped going to see them..main reason was I loved the band with Brent in lineup and I saw the band after Brent a few times but it was not same..scene was getting lame as #$%@...when I was seeing preps from my hometown all of a sudden transforming into hard-core deadheads but yr before they were into madonna..or rap..and didn't care about the music but were only there for the scene..by 92-93 there were barely anyone over 30 yrs age and most were in 20's and started to dig the scene...not the music and violence, and beat artists were very prevelent hardly any more deadheads who were following the Dead that were old enough to have been going to shows since pigpen days...the 1st few years I was seeing shows it was still a great time!!! GBTGD
I'm your age, and I also missed out. Really wish I'd went to Memphis with my friend. I didn't fully appreciate the Dead or Jerry back then, and I figured the tour would keep on going for much longer.

Seeing this band live was like hanging out with Garcia in his living room, playing you LPs of artists he really liked. Thanks Christopher Hazard for your work on this.....this is a lot sharper than my DVD. (a 5.1 surround from brokedown house would be the icing )

This show was pro-shot and released as a commercial DVD, hence better than average a/v quality. That said, I note that I own a copy of the DVD, and the a/v quality of the original DVD slays what we can get through youtube.

Jerry Garcia was the best example of how people play music in America. He played all the different types of americana music masterfully. Even influenced most of the modern guitar playing you hear today across all genres. Greatest person to ever show the world how to use a guitar. We would still be listning to minor blues pentatonic in whatever key fits the music if Jerry didnt show the world how to solo through chord changes. Danielshade 710 Jerry Garcia left behind a legacy in music just about as big as music itself. No other musician has accomplished more than this man. He also played guitar for his other band called The Grateful Dead, maybe youve heard of them.
This brings back great memories. I was a "late bloomer" to this awesome band. A friend of mine took me and my girlfriend to this concert. So blessed to have seen a little bit of this great band. Saw this one and a handful of others before Jerry died.☹️

The way Jerry plays Dylan songs it reminds me of someone surfing the wake of a tugboat, like it’s a slow wave that nobody thought of riding, but there is Jerry just doing incredible things where no one could have imagined. He reinvents I Shall Be Released just like She Belongs to me into such subtle tour de forces. Brings out nuances that just melt your heart.

Well I wouldn't necessarily agree that Dylan is small time or unknown, I would definitely agree that Jerry plays his songs much much much better. I feel like Bob Dylan is more of a lyricist/songwriter and less of a musician, while Jerry is more of a musician and less of a lyricist
@@mrwhosmynameagain - Bob could actually play some riveting lead guitar. I saw him play live at the Palladium in Hollywood and he played like a 2 minute solo it seemed on She Belongs to Me! Jerry obviously was the master guitar player but it always bugs when people underestimate Dylan’s guitar playing. On World Gone Wrong he plays so tasty and also on Good As I Been to You. I’ve heard people like Joni Mitchell say Dylan isn’t much of a guitar player and I just don’t agree with that at all.
Jerry really on top of his game here. Sometimes Jerry's voice in later years suffered but he sounds excellent here. Rough but beautiful. He gets so much love as a counter-cultural icon but not nearly enough as a musician. Jerry was a very careful musician and thoughtful singer. I think the Jerry Band, without the overindulgence of the Dead, showcased his chops even better that when he was in full Grateful Dead flower. Thanks for the upload!

Just wanted to add my thanks to you, Christopher, for your outstanding work on resuscitating and improving this fantastic and underrated video for a new generation of fans (and us older Heads)! I wish the Garicia estate would release the full Hunter interview we did, which, if memory serves, was 45 minutes to an hour long. Kudos should also always go to director Len Dell' Amico, who shot and edited everything--the show and the bonus footage. He loved and really GOT Jerry! A really great and very smart guy...
Blair, thanks for your terrific biography on Garcia. I liken being a Deadhead to being a blind man figuring out what an elephant looks like, so many facets and folds I’ve discovered and still can’t get a full image. Your book helped immensely .

Wow, thank you so much for editing and posting this...AMAZING! In the 80s and 90s, I went to a couple dozen Dead shows and about a half dozen JGB shows. Neither was "better" -- the experiences and music are just too different to compare and rank them (and I loathe ranking or rating art in any form anyway) -- and I am so grateful (no pun intended; best word for my feelings) to have been able to do that. One thing I did notice is that on the balance, Jerry seemed more relaxed and joyful when playing with the JGB. I definitely saw some genuine moments of levity and joy from Jerry in some of the Dead shows I attended, but in general he seemed lighter in spirit with JGB. I don't see that as a knock on the Dead or Jerry's playing with them at all; it makes sense that Jerry would find more joy playing with a smaller band he hand-picked and playing the songs he loves to play most.
Bottom Line: Jerry is and always will be a heavenly gift from the musical arts goddess and gods. Miss him so much. If there is an afterlife and we get to see people we love again when we get there, I do look forward to enjoying an eternity of Jerry's music.

Great shows thank chris i loved this album from Jerry and his band this was one of my favorites and I lost these album got melted in my car on a move this was my goto album coming down off tabs it just brought you back down easy to make some time to bring u back to reality so you could go back to work or what ever you had to do to not look all wrong for the mainstream public and I miss you Jerry as much as I do love the fact I am sober and I will not have any other side of my life that has impacted me as much as you have been a wonderful musicians to my ears and your love for the art and your love for your fans is the most part who I am thankful that you have been able to give me a chance to enjoy the show sweet little bit of the best people and the only way to make some of these things that I ❤are the greatest and most important to you and you are doing a good job and a great deal of time ❤and I hope you feel the best thing I can describe to be a great ❤for the best thing I have not seen in a long while now I have been a huge fan of Jerry for over 30 years and have never been any regrets for the point of life is love one another and walk together towards the promises land well all be together ❤and prayers to you and your family and your life

1:18:30 I was so thrilled to see Garcia add Bruce Cockburn's "Waiting for a Miracle" to his set lists back around '89. I once asked Bruce what he thought, and he responded 'it's pretty good, even though he changes some of my lyrics!" (I think it's during the 2nd bridge following the guitar solo (1:22:27) 'you rub your palm on the grimy pane, in the hope that you can see' line). Good stuff here- thanks for posting!

I love Jerry's Dear Prudence, my favorite version, same with Dylan's I Shall Be Released, I don't think anyone does it like Jerry. Well, Nina Simone put her magical spin on it too. ❤
Jerry always had the best tone and phrasing. How guitar players don't like his playing is beyond my comprehension. I'm not a Dead Head by any means, but I know Jerry kills it !

Living in the UK I saw the Dead when they came. I also loved what Jerry did with other musicians. We never got to see these bands. Its great that we've git these excellent recordings of JGB. I love his covers. He has such an emotive and sincere voice, he communicates the essence of these songs.
Seeing this still gives me the chills I felt when I was watching them in real time. I love the quality of this video too, wow!

You really think it was like that with the dead? All members of GD we're monster players in there own right. I think he was used to them and playing in jgb/other projects it was fresh for him
at about 12:30 when Seals comes in with wind up riff, Kahn and drums settle back into the groove and Jerry smiles....I love those kind of moments...man, I love JGB
This is fuckin' amazing man. I was witness to many Jerry and GD shows in the 90's. This brings me home. thank you brother.
How Sweet It Is! Sometimes during these days of darkness, I forget that the magic that we felt was for Real Real. This is such a powerful reminder of how lucky I was to have danced and danced and danced. Garcia was always as happy to be at a JGB show as we were! Jerry shows were always incredibly special experiences! Great work with this video!

Always preferred JGB to the Dead. Jerry looked so happy & like he was havin' fun! I always say, "A JGB Show is just like goin' to church!" I feel so fortunate to have seen many of these shows at the Keystone Palo Alto live. God, I miss him.
I think the acoustic stuff he was doing with Grisman was even more fun for him those last few years but agree 100% - especially after Brent died the energy at the JGB shows was better
@@steveg6035 The backup singers in JGB really made him sound better, but we had a couple of great years at the end with Bruce. All you gotta do is watch some of the videos, as Jerry looks over at Bruce. I got to see several of those shows. fall 90-91, and they were a great last gasp at the magic

I did notice that! Many musicians get their face and mouth involved while playing their instruments (Keith Moon hollering like a mad man is one example) , but maybe because of the clarity of the footage Jerry's oral expressions popped out to me in this recording. I noticed a long time ago Phil Lesh calls out (I am pretty sure...) the chord changes to himself. I started doing that and it helped my playing!
John Kahn was even more emphatic when mouthing his notes. The first time I saw him play I wondered if his jaw might come unhinged...
