With any cartridge style oil filter, it's best to loosen the oil filter cap before draining the oil. I usually give it a few minutes to allow the oil in the housing to drain into the oil pan. I use a turkey baster that I bought at the dollar store to pull out the remaining oil from the housing.
To get the oil out of the filter housing, you can use the top off a soap dispenser with a length of pipe attached to the siphon tube. You just need a small tub to collect what you pump out. From what I can see, its a non-PD engine but 507.00 5w30, VW PD spec oil, is superior spec oil to what your using and gives better wear protection.
Good video with one exception. The oil filter cap does NOT need a "tool" to remove or tighten. 19 ft/lbs it very little. Not enough to warrant a "tool".
That simple means it's too tight. Do you actually torque it with a wrench to 19? I just changed my oil 🛢 today. The guy I bought the car from said just make it hand tight, which it was (no leaks) and I put it back on the same (no leaks).
You american? Have a diesel golf? Wow ! Bet its automatic. Do you guys find diesel easy at the pumps? or you must go to the truck terminals ? Hello from Romania ! It takes 4,2 L of oil but I just put 4, the jug came by 4 or 5 L ( slicky little bastards ). Usually I buy a 5 L and then a 4 L and add some of the 5L every oil change. Make a vid about reset of the oil service dashboard display for people to do
Frec Menta - Yes, I am an American and I have a diesel Golf! It's a manual too! Diesel fuel is easy to find at the pumps over here, but it's not at every fueling station. My 2001 Golf doesn't have an oil life monitoring system to reset, so I can't make a video on it. Thanks for watching!
I had to watch because my filter was not marked top. Same filter. Thanks for the video

Thanks! Need to do this soon on my Dad's Jetta
You're welcome and good luck!

Wise Owl - That's a good idea to get that oil out of the filter housing. Great tip!
The ALH motor seems to prefer 5-40 over 5-30, despite the spec.
where do you get the new drain plug? that’s the only thing i’m missing
I have a link up in the description for the drain plug.
@@Corysdiyauto thanks, i’m just not sure if I trust Amazon for these purchases
@@izzydrycow - I understand that. If you order an oil change kit from idparts.com you can opt for a drain plug when you place your order.

John Shelzi - The socket is very nice because it fits on top perfectly and makes the process much easier in my opinion. What do you use?
I use my hand ✋. And at 64, I have no problem. As I said, 19 ft/lbs is very little. By hand is sufficient to generate that easily.
@@johnnygoogles - That's impressive, because I can't loosen it with my hand.

@@johnnygoogles - I never use a torque wrench on it, I just tighten it up until it stops. I will try this with my hand next time and see how it goes.
I did the oil change exactly like this but when my car is running it leaks a lot of oil.. I don't know from where tho :(
Felipewpew - You don't know where it's coming from? Did it leak before you changed the oil?
@@Corysdiyauto I'm going to look tomorrow, the engine is so greasy it's hard to see haha I'll give you news.
@@tassap9355 Alright, I hope that you can figure it out.
Sometimes people don't tighten the crush washer enough. That's why people replace plug.
What is that green tool named?
TNB ALPHA - It's a 74mm oil filter wrench.
Why am I watching this i dont even have a car
