I can see that by the time you finish, you'll be a marine engineer as well as an accomplished helmsman. Good thing you are a skinny dude though - some of those spots you are checking would be impossible for my well covered bones! I hope you are right with the shore and running costs decreasing as you head to Greece and onwards to Albania and Croatia - it's been my experience as a landlubber in the area that anywhere there's tourists, the prices are definitely inflated for anyone not local. Loving your commentary, the anecdotes and the calm temperament - I would have blown several gaskets by now.
Great video again, love the open and honest talks about the equipment. Just a question. Your bilge cannot be switched to a tank or to overboard ? With all that oil in the bilge indeed the last thing you want is for the bilge pump to be activated. We added a tank to the bilge hose, however, do keep in mind that you should be able to switch it to directly overboard, otherwise you will need a second pump, of the same capacity to pump it from the tank overboard in case you have a substantial leakage. and need to drain the boat. As for the Bimini, in Kos there is a company that can weld the frame for you for a very reasonable price. I had some work done by them in December and paid just 120 euro, good quality. My neighbor had a bimini frame made as well by them, done in about a week time. Turkey is indeed not the place to be. It was, 10 years ago, but since that time they have gone bananas. I sent you (via e-mail) the name of the guy who knows everyone in Kos, he can probably also find you the company that can supply the cloth. We'll probably be there around the 16th, can take you to the welding shop if need be. Hope the install of the water maker goes well. Good luck.
Aah thanks so much. We are in Kos now but leaving in the morning. We have a commitment in Athens on 20th so do need to head away as early as possible just to make sure we do not put weather pressure on ourselves. We will find somewhere for sure. Appreciate the effort you have gone to and sorry we will not meet you in Kos.
@@AwanuiNZ Have a safe trip crossing the Aegean, indeed good to wait for decent weather. We will be making the crossing in a couple of weeks, also hoping for good weather. Channel of Corinth should open up around the beginning of May, can highly recommend that passage. It is absolutely worth the money.
Is it worth marking/painting bolt positions to see if it goes loose . Also maybe try blue lock-tight to prevent loosing due to vibration. I used it on motorbikes all the time, especially on KTMs it could vibrate to pieces
ALL screw clamps loosen over time on a boat. Vibration is your biggest enemy!!!! You must check all fittings and hose clamps on a regular basis. You need to set down and make yourself a maintenance plan and schedule.
Greetings Mark. Love your channel, I am vicariously enjoying your experience. With regard to your Gen Set cooling system, is it possible to fit an outside header tank and filler? It would be a lot easier if you had to do a check in a seaway, just a thought to help a fellow Kiwi. Best wishes to you and your family. Noel. Zulu Mike Victor 1070
Sad too see a brand new boat with these kind of fails. The water leakage .. didn’t they test the system on the boatyard? Those loose screws, kind of a Boeing thing 😅
Hi guys, can’t believe how expensive it is to stay there per night at $300 Mark I love your sense of humour Australian and New Zealand we are completely different to other people in the world keep up the good work love the videos Clifton from Australia from the big island
Not 100% sure but with the gen looked like you removed the radiator cap ....should have a plastic over_ underflow container that you can just look at ?? And the joys off new anything... teething probs
@@AwanuiNZ it was a a specific point in the video when your good lady had to raise her voice, I was just surprised as I hadn’t really noticed before and was wondering what was different at that time, sorry for not making my question clear, the episode was a while ago, I’ve had a binge session and I’m up to date now 😀
@@AwanuiNZ There should be a relief valve on the system to relieve the pressure before the seals blow out. Or possibly the cooling was not working and the hydraulic oil got so hot the rubber seals were destroyed.
Why have John Deer not put the oil lipsticks facing into centre line of the boat same as other engine manufacturers such as Volvo MAN do it would make life so much easier.
Hi you all , yes my first thought was that exactly , I run two Volvo 75s , the dip sticks are just across from each other , I wonder if there’s a mod that could bring that one back across two the middle , great video mark 😁😁😁😁👍🏻
JD does offer optional dip stick locations as well as remote oil filter option. So it depends on how the order from JD was specified. Also the JD power view does display fuel consumption real time and has a totalizer display which I found handy to calculate overall load factor.
Not the Kiwi way. We may get her detailed a couple of times a year but daily/weekly cleaning is our job…..once we get decent water pressure. Our plan is to anchor where we can so good pump critical.
SORRY ABOUT THE LITTLE GREMLINS ON YOUR NEW YACHT!!!...A BRAND LIKE NORDHAVN SHOULD NOT LET THAT HAPPEN!!!...I HOPE THEY WILL USE YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A TRAINING TOOL FOR THE WORKERS WHO BUILD THEIR BOATS....STAY SAFE MAKES 👍 😉...🎉🎉
Lots on this boat and overall amazing finish and attention to detail. The problems in the video are really the only issues of significance and given hull one I am very impressed. Great support while we are out here too.
Yip it’s amazing…they need to happen politically what happened in Argentina. We now in Greece and good to be on our way. Mind you diesel $3NZ per litre!
I think the negative comments are from people who are naive about boats, it doesn’t Matter if it’s the first or 20th boat they will all come with minor issues, it’s a mechanical thing. It must be tough living in that perfect world.
Sorry I do not agree not that I am an expert but we witnessed the care and attention that went into this boat. In the end it was one leaky pipe clip that did not leak leaving Istanbul and has not leaked since tightened. The stabiliser issue was with the manufacturer and Nordhavn/Telgeren the boat builder have done everything possible to rectify it. Any new boat needs tweaking, in fact every boat needs tweaking it’s what you do on a boat. We had a share in a boat a few years back and every trip there was something. We have had the last 10 days with nothing cropping up, everything running well and the boat handling perfect. Our videos are an open book we want to share the whole experience…good and bad! Thanks for taking the time to comment though it’s good to get all views.
As a retired Marine Engineer, it really frustrates me because these problems should not be happening from a reputable boat builder. It’s not teething problems, it’s crap building, and poor quality control procedures.
nordhavns quality control isn’t that good.. they test before handover for several days, and they still fail. I saw the videos from the 120 court case. Absolute rubbish quality. That owner won his $13m court case
@@AwanuiNZ did you see the video? Did you see how badly that boat was put together?? Hey Ive followed Nordhavns for years. And if you get past the sales pitch, well. Anyway.. you handled the small failures on your boat with grace and humour.. good on you, hope you have great times :)
@@AwanuiNZ we arent disagreeing at all my friend.. you made a video of you fixing things that would have been tested by the manufacturer as source, tested by the builder on installation, and tested at sea.. then you made a video of you fixing parts that could have cause you serious trouble at sea. So by fixing those components, we actually agree…
looks like they dont have quality control, as long as the boat floats and the engine works, they dont triple checked the small stuff or details and they just brushed it off..
Those fitting should all have a torque setting so that the installers know that they have tighten them properly. Nordhaven should be ashamed of themselves.
Ok so yip we were disappointed those few screws could have half a turn more……I have since gone everywhere and checked, all others good. We providing plenty of feedback and they listen.
if this is the finish product of Nordhavn boats, then i wont buy one these brand new, there should be some sort of quality control.. looks like they just commissioned and released, as long as it floating and the engine works, they dont do any triple checking on the small stuffs.. looks like a rushed work, like what happened to the AURORA N120.. no peace of mind for a the new owners.. but i wish you luck awanui NZ.. lovely boat.. just poor quality from the makers..
i am in the yacht business and i can tell you that i dont care who makes the boat, they all have small issues when they are new. boats are hand built and thats the way it is. you generally take delivery, use it for a bit and then come up with a punch list of items that need to be taken care of. the company takes care of it and then your on your way. its nothing liek buying a car. what you speak of with the 120 aurora and what you see on the internet about it isnt the real story. thats been totally twisted and edited to twist it all around. alot of illegal stuff went on by the original owner which i won't get into here.
Ok so the comment already posted sums it up. Nordhavn offer amazing support once you leave the build port. The message we got getting on the boat was use everything until something breaks. When the stabilisers went into port we went and all expenses covered by Nordhavn. They will likely claim from ABT but their first thought was to look after us. I know the story of the N120 in detail and absolutely more to it. The courts found in Nordhavn’s favour. Nordhavn owners are universally happy with their product. It’s a boat with so many moving parts. We want our videos to be open and honest…the good comes with the bad so once in a while we will report something not so good. Hull No.1 always has some teething issues, we know that as do Nordhavn…they are looking after us. Thanks for your comments though.
As a customer who know doubt paid a small fortune for your lovely boat, having to fix Nordhaven’s craftsmanship issues? Personally I’d work with the company but would reject the boat as not meeting your exacting standards. Nordhaven, take note. Disgraceful.
Mmm bit tough. Stabilisers were ABT issue which Nordhavn was immediately onto and covered all costs. The water was not leaking on departure but after 48hrs of continuous running……everything worked well which on a maiden voyage for hull No.1 I think is amazing.
Seriously, look at the complexity of a boat , a brand new first delivery, if the 2 problems Mark has had are the only ones , it will be a fantastic result. Sorry I think Nordhaven has done an amazing job. Very impressive. And looks like they rectified things quickly. Well done 👍
Absolutely not….we are so happy with the boat. Anything wrong gets fixed, no questions. We always knew there would be teething problems with the first build.
Congrats, on the boat naming, may you have many miles of sunshine and fair seas back home to New Zealand. I'm assuming you are taking the long route through Panama home?
Would you expect those snags to have been checked before handover? What’s the warranty on a new boat? Do they pay for an engineering at the port you’re in?
Awesome guys. Enjoying your travels. Stay safe.
Always the plan

I have to inform you that you are not allowed to wear socks in shorts mode. 😁
Fair comment but when you can take bare feet out of shoes without pulling out the inners I will do it!
Is it worth marking/painting bolt positions to see if it goes loose . Also maybe try blue lock-tight to prevent loosing due to vibration. I used it on motorbikes all the time, especially on KTMs it could vibrate to pieces
Good thinking…thanks
Love the design of boat name
Thanks so much
35:54 "Problem with SEALS?.. (Like sea lions?)... No problem!" - what's what I would expect to hear in response 😅
Yip
ALL screw clamps loosen over time on a boat. Vibration is your biggest enemy!!!! You must check all fittings and hose clamps on a regular basis. You need to set down and make yourself a maintenance plan and schedule.
The list grows everyday…..so much to do eh?
Keep it PG, but following the leg tan situation with interest
They will get there….promise
Greetings Mark. Love your channel, I am vicariously enjoying your experience. With regard to your Gen Set cooling system, is it possible to fit an outside header tank and filler? It would be a lot easier if you had to do a check in a seaway, just a thought to help a fellow Kiwi. Best wishes to you and your family. Noel. Zulu Mike Victor 1070
Don’t know but will ask…thanks for touching base
Nordhavn should have done sea trials for a month before ever turning your ship over to you. Hope you don't have any more problems. Safe boating .
Figure a month is just too long to expect but some more would have been good
didnt consider a Flemming?
Seen how much they are? Also big engines so very expensive to run.
Seems like a lot of work to keep your boat going! So much money for all the break downs! 😢
Honestly it’s ok…..really are minor issues
Sad too see a brand new boat with these kind of fails. The water leakage .. didn’t they test the system on the boatyard? Those loose screws, kind of a Boeing thing 😅
I assume they did. I advised a friend getting his boat soon to methodically check the tightness of every screw.
Hi guys, can’t believe how expensive it is to stay there per night at $300 Mark I love your sense of humour Australian and New Zealand we are completely different to other people in the world keep up the good work love the videos Clifton from Australia from the big island
Big island but still off the coast of NZ
Lol
The legs caused me to subscribe
You have a problem!!
What is the sound track called?
Not sure sorry
Not 100% sure but with the gen looked like you removed the radiator cap ....should have a plastic over_ underflow container that you can just look at ??
And the joys off new anything... teething probs
Sorry tell me more?
@@AwanuiNZ Hi Im suprised it does not have a overflow / expasion tank connected to the radiator to enable easy and safe checking of the Water level
It seems really really loud in the salon 😮
Not at all
@@AwanuiNZ it was a a specific point in the video when your good lady had to raise her voice, I was just surprised as I hadn’t really noticed before and was wondering what was different at that time, sorry for not making my question clear, the episode was a while ago, I’ve had a binge session and I’m up to date now 😀
Probably the engine room door not secured….she purrs
They have automated car washes do they have automated boat washes? Have an excellent day
Oh boy that would be so wonderful
I want a nordhavn 57
I like them but do like the classic NH lines
Yeah that does seem odd that both seals failed at the same time
I reckon
@@AwanuiNZ There should be a relief valve on the system to relieve the pressure before the seals blow out. Or possibly the cooling was not working and the hydraulic oil got so hot the rubber seals were destroyed.
Why have John Deer not put the oil lipsticks facing into centre line of the boat same as other engine manufacturers such as Volvo MAN do it would make life so much easier.
Sorry meant dip sticks
Yip it would be easier…not sure why not
Hi you all , yes my first thought was that exactly , I run two Volvo 75s , the dip sticks are just across from each other , I wonder if there’s a mod that could bring that one back across two the middle , great video mark 😁😁😁😁👍🏻
JD does offer optional dip stick locations as well as remote oil filter option. So it depends on how the order from JD was specified. Also the JD power view does display fuel consumption real time and has a totalizer display which I found handy to calculate overall load factor.
25l/hr ,about 2400 dollars for a 48 hr cruise,wow
Not nearly
I would expect much more from Nordhaven than your customer service. Can no-one build a boat??
Never that simple especially for Hull 1
If you can afford a Nordhaven, call the guys to clean your boat. Much easier!!!!
Drive? Like a car? I thought this video was about a boat.
Good point……..Mark gets to steer? Mark gets to pilot? Marks in command?
Nordharven sadly lacking Mark you should have been returned tens of thousand of dollars just for the water fittings.
Don’t see it that way
Turkey now has 4th highest inflation rate in the world. Watch those costs!!!
Yip it’s amazing…they need to happen politically what happened in Argentina. We now in Greece and good to be on our way. Mind you diesel $3NZ per litre!
I'd be a bit disappointed paying that much for a boat and having such minor problems that could be a major problem if you hadn't investigated.
Honestly it’s ok…Hull No 1 everytime has issues. Nothing has been unsurmountable.
I think the negative comments are from people who are naive about boats, it doesn’t Matter if it’s the first or 20th boat they will all come with minor issues, it’s a mechanical thing. It must be tough living in that perfect world.
Haha good comment
All new boats have teething problems unfortunately. But this is way beyond anything normal nor acceptable!
Thanks for taking the time to comment though it’s good to get all views.
lol stay out kfc with those chicken legs and don't burn
Somehow think they would get rejected!
@@AwanuiNZ love the boat {any nordhavn really} and the videos safe boating to ya
As a retired Marine Engineer, it really frustrates me because these problems should not be happening from a reputable boat builder. It’s not teething problems, it’s crap building, and poor quality control procedures.
Mmm ok I hear you. They have been very receptive to any issue and fix it promptly…that’s a tick from me
What a Nordhavn nightmare...the chronicles of poor workmanship just keep coming.
Absolutely not…I hope we have not given the wrong impression. The quality of build is amazing we are very happy
nordhavns quality control isn’t that good.. they test before handover for several days, and they still fail. I saw the videos from the 120 court case. Absolute rubbish quality. That owner won his $13m court case
Check again he lost and badly
@@AwanuiNZ did you see the video? Did you see how badly that boat was put together?? Hey Ive followed Nordhavns for years. And if you get past the sales pitch, well. Anyway.. you handled the small failures on your boat with grace and humour.. good on you, hope you have great times :)
Thanks so much…we agree to differ
@@AwanuiNZ we arent disagreeing at all my friend.. you made a video of you fixing things that would have been tested by the manufacturer as source, tested by the builder on installation, and tested at sea.. then you made a video of you fixing parts that could have cause you serious trouble at sea. So by fixing those components, we actually agree…
That is terrible atention to detail. Nordhavn should be ashamed
looks like they dont have quality control, as long as the boat floats and the engine works, they dont triple checked the small stuff or details and they just brushed it off..
They absolutely have quality control, maybe vibration loosened these. I am going to check each week to see if they loosen again
Not sure possible for a screw head
if this is the finish product of Nordhavn boats, then i wont buy one these brand new, there should be some sort of quality control.. looks like they just commissioned and released, as long as it floating and the engine works, they dont do any triple checking on the small stuffs.. looks like a rushed work, like what happened to the AURORA N120.. no peace of mind for a the new owners..
but i wish you luck awanui NZ.. lovely boat.. just poor quality from the makers..
i am in the yacht business and i can tell you that i dont care who makes the boat, they all have small issues when they are new. boats are hand built and thats the way it is. you generally take delivery, use it for a bit and then come up with a punch list of items that need to be taken care of. the company takes care of it and then your on your way. its nothing liek buying a car. what you speak of with the 120 aurora and what you see on the internet about it isnt the real story. thats been totally twisted and edited to twist it all around. alot of illegal stuff went on by the original owner which i won't get into here.
Agree 100%
Third World workers, no way would I buy a NEW BOAT
Okidoki your call…used boats have their issues too. Anything mechanical means teething problems.
New boats, dont you just love teething problems
I do
As a customer who know doubt paid a small fortune for your lovely boat, having to fix Nordhaven’s craftsmanship issues?
Well done 👍
Too many failures. Have you talked to a lawyer?
Absolutely not….we are so happy with the boat. Anything wrong gets fixed, no questions. We always knew there would be teething problems with the first build.
Congrats, on the boat naming, may you have many miles of sunshine and fair seas back home to New Zealand.
I'm assuming you are taking the long route through Panama home?
Oh yes. I went through when I was six so it is absolutely on our bucket list
Would you expect those snags to have been checked before handover?
What’s the warranty on a new boat? Do they pay for an engineering at the port you’re in?
Anything wrong they cover, no question about that. After sales service is amazing.
@@AwanuiNZ cheers mate. Fair winds and blue skies!
🇹🇷🧿 merhaba How much is this boat including everything?
Just what we could afford to be honest
Can you get a SEAKEEPER in a nordhaven ? Way better than fins...
Too late….I guess you could
NORDHAVEN'S QC NEEDS SOME RE-THINKING...
They pretty good…..nothing is a problem to get sorted. maybe we could have asked for a little more commissioning.
