Gotta love that they ( mostly ) used a rock-style openingnumber. Getting you pumped up for the game. "To make the end of battle" also works great as ringtone.

I understand people can have different taste in gaming, but I just can't help but feel sorry for gamers who have not even tried Ys or Trails games. They are missing out on one of the best jrpg series of all time. These games resonate so much with me and I love every moment of it.

Playing all the YS games you find things that are in common. 1. It takes place in the East 2. All villains belong in the same organization etc. of some sort searching for some relic. 3. All ancient beings are somehow related to each other as came from an ancient civilization long forgotten. 4. The origin of magic derived from the same ancient civilization. 5. Adol destined to save all of East.
You forgot degens who always go on making a deal with ancient devils only to miserably fail and letting us to clean up after them. After Adol kicks their asses obviously
If you look at the maps for Ys, the world is actually an alternate version of Western Europe. Some of the countries/region names are slight variations of real names. Some examples of this are Romn which is Rome, Ispani is Spain, Afroca is Africa, Gllia is France, and Britai which is Britain.
I hope we'll get something like ys vs sora no kiseki again someday, ys-style fighting game with both ys and kiseki characters from the modern games would be awesome.
Woah, that's actually the first Ys related theme I ever heard, though I didn't know what it was from, at the time. I more or less played through the entire series a few years ago, with it in the back of my mind, expecting it to run into it again... Never got it... So it was from some crossover the whole time? Damnit! x)
Ys Oath of Felghana and Ys Origins are my favorites. Would love to see a Ys 5 remake in the style of them. I don't think the Ys 8 style would work for Ys 1 and 2 because Adol is by himself.
@Motoko Chan Ys IX is a good game, but it's definitely a step down from VIII. I suspected it was a funding issue, and several sources confirm this. I hope they get things sorted for X as well. Should be a milestone in the series.

Monstrum Nox doesn't have an opening because having actual character animation instead of flash tweens in Lacrimosa of Dana's opening blew out the budget

Falcom is also hurting without the extra funds of the global market. Covid had also spiked development costs due to Japan's public health policy, and the need to work remote. In what can only be called desperation by both companies, they partnered to localize Ys VIII and now Ys IX. The initial translations for Ys VIII was so bad,a public apology was issued and the game was re-translated, re-dubbed, and re-localized from scratch. This only happened because of the steep budget cuts and attempts to cut corners on development and localization.
To me, the best Openings in order of music and quality of video is: YS II - Even if the animation isn't great they did an awesome job with that one, Then Ys Origin because tha Guitar and Violin just gets me every time, Ys Memories of Celceta, that game opening gives me the chills, Ys Seven and Ys Lacrimosa of Dana. I love Dana's opening but it's one of the most serene openings, quite celestial, and I like it yeah, but Falcom shines when they make really amazing bangs like Origins and Ys II. I love them all though.
Played everything but Lacrimosa so far. I defeated last boss in Origin for Yunica but a bug kept the ending from plsying every time. Haven't cleared Ark of Naphistism cause my psp died before i could. Currently playing Memories of Celcetta....Damnit Falcom, you're burning through my wallet!
Uhhh, you didn't start with 1987 at all. That's pretty misleading. The oldest original game you have here is Ys VI, everything else is remakes so there's nothing here from 1987.

I'm an American and started my Ys journey in 2011 with Origin and Chronicles. Have played most of them now. I truly wish I'd gotten to experience them back when you did. Ys 1 and 2 for the PC Engine/Turbografx CD would have blown me away as a kid in the 1990s. The West never got Ys 4: Dawn of Ys. As good as Ys 4: Memories of Celceta is I've heard Dawn of Ys is one of the most incredible experiences and I hate that we missed out on it.
The openings were always passion projects done by their developers in programming downtime. With IX, budget cuts, and the sheer size of the game, made that almost impossible. I hope they patch one in later, but they may just be saving the budget for X
Yes sir, one of the best and oldest JRPG series of the video game industry, everygame has it's unique combat system and mechanics I strongly recommend you play in the canon order but you can also play by launch order.
Ys 6 on the PSP is FUCKING GOAT. The game is better on the ps2 but goddamn the opening on psp is GOAT. Ys 1 and 2 is my favorite but it is also the first one I played and both opening are great. Ys 7 and 8 are classics OP too. Celceta ain't bad.

Ys 2 opening is so creative. It's not just a mix of quick cuts, it also has a very cool suspense build-up and omg, that lightning at 5:01.

私はゲーム歴41年ですけど、これに出会って価値観が変わったのは現実です。PCエンジンCDーROmで出会ったんですが、何回クリアしてもこの感動は私の宝です!
私もイースシリーズに衝撃を受けた、一人です。移植作品と完全版は良かった。
