Best DTM Cars after the 80s. Spectacular looking, but still strong enough to suffer some bumps without DNF! Sad that they gave up these concepts for more and more wings and stuff. Really miss Astra, TT and CLK.
Fun Fact:During the Opel campaign in new DTM (the brand was running since 2000 until 2005),cars like Astra (2000-2003) and later Vectra GTS (2004-2005) were using a very modified Oldsmobile L47 block, the same 4.0 L NA V8 engine used in Oldsmobile Aurora, but in DTM this engine was modified by Spiess Tuning.Yes,the same company that tuned the former Opel Formula 3 engines Basically the Oldsmobile Aurora was involved in IMSA GTS-1,IMSA WSC,Indy Racing League (now Indycar Series) and DTM.Surprising
Man i miss the Oldtimer GP, 2018 and 2019 were amazing for us. We took part in the GLP-Race and on the Trackdays. I love the early 2000 DTM-Racecars. Astra V8, Audi TT and the Mercedes. Amazing battles and great looking cars ^^
Because it has an 180 dregree flat plane crankshaft, which is very popular among racing engines, especially European. The famous V8 rumble comes from the 90 degree cross plane crankshaft.
Throttle response with a flat-plane V8 is superior over cross-plane. Cross plane may have better low end torque but that's not so essential on relatively smooth German and Central European tracks
From the sound alone I would never guess that has a V8, or even a flat plane V8. Kinda interesting, every other flat plane V8 does have some I4 notes at some point in the RPM range, but you can always hear the extra cylinders come at higher RPM's. This sounds like an I4 from idle all the way to redline. Pretty sure every single exhaust pulse is being used to extract the exhaust gas from every other cylinder, and there was some serious engineering of the header collectors to make that happen. I bet the exhaust headers look crazy on this car.
This was based on the Astra Bertone Coupe, which itself is a nice looking Opel. And these were the last times when Opel was still making cool cars, it all went downhill after the early 00's.
@@JamoZNL And cheap quality ones too. I watched a POV test drive video of the new Insignia, and the guy scratched the footwell panel of the centre console, and it sounded like a cheap car plastic, not very convincing from a supposedly premium car from them. Omega was the last properly build car in their lineup imo. It's a really shame since some of their cars do look great on certain aspects, but fail to impress in terms of how the build quality feels, they used to be really good on that department in the old days.
@@d-d-i I agree. Last week i was looking to buy a upgrade to my 2006 Renault Megane and the Opel Meriva and Zafira from around 2011 were both decent options, but after a little test drive i decided they were not for me. Almost no luxury and a really cheap feel all around. The interior looked like it came from 1996 and everything about them just screamed boring and cheap. I ended up with a C4 Picasso, and although far from perfect at least it has character and it's own style. Something you can't say about a modern Opel.
You know having experienced a similar car to this in Blur, I was expecting something gnarly and angry sounding when it raced. Like a Judd V8 sounding V8. Was surprised hearing how almost non V8 sounding it is racing around.
Back when DTM still have that "rubbin' is racin'" mentality. And so the car is designed with that in mind. And that V8 man.. Flat Plane-crank V8.. *Unique*
Bonjour j'espère que les dirigeants de la marque au blitz changeront grandement leur stratégie sportive car Opel manque grandement dans le sport automobile notamment le DTM et je les verrais bien en WRC aussi

RIP DTM (1984-2020)
Why 2020?
@@-Barracuda-426 for the first time ever dtm is running cars that aren't unique to it as a series (they're just using gt3 cars)

Opel V8 with Astra Coupe wow this sound amazing
Actually quite quiet for a V8, looks amazing though :)

Really doesn’t sound like any other V8 to me, very cool! Love these things 👌

Gran Turismo 4 and TOCA Race Driver 2 for me,really good games and Opel really looks very cool
early to mid 2000s DTM cars are amazing looking
The First 2-door coupe era,the Second one was since 2012 until 2020
Great as always
The last Opel great race car (?),with the Vectra GTS
Also Opel Astra OPC hatchback in NLS first SP classes are kinda cool too
All these DTM cars sound fantastic.
I've never heard one in person before. It almost sounds like it has a 4 cylinder. Flat plane crank?
Yes its a flat plane crank v8
Kinda always been the thing for dtm to have very weird sounding v8s
