What a wonderful moment. Good on Penguins fans for Welcoming Phil back to Pittsburgh. Also good on Phil for being kind to fans despite wearing an Arizona jersey. Classy moves all around. This is why I love hockey. 🙂🏒👏👏

We love ya Phil and won’t ever forget ya bud! Without the Thrill there’s no back to back Stanley Cups in Pittsburgh. Let alone the first one (4th in franchise history). He was a beast and elevated his scoring in the playoffs and one could argue he deserved the Conn Smythe in 2016. The HBK line for a moment in a time was the best line in hockey

I think he is gonna love the role he has with the coyotes. Phil must feel pretty good where he is at in his career. Way less pressure there. He went to Pittsburgh and proved a lot of of his critics wrong. Really one of the players I respect most. Always been a fan.

True; he never missed a game. But he also never blocked a shot. Never raced back to the defensive zone to turn a 2-1 into a 2-2. Never stood in front of the net to battle for a rebound. Never worked in the corners. Don't get me wrong, I loved Phil and I am eternally grateful for his time in Pittsburgh, but let's not overlook the reasons WHY he's never missed a game.

Late to the party, but I bought tickets to this game, specifically for this reason, about 6 months in advance.
I kid you not, the only reason we all stopped cheering was because the ref finally dropped the puck for the faceoff. They waited longer than usual, and we had no intentions of stopping if they would have let us keep going. Absolutely amazing.

Toronto needs an enema. They think of themselves as the center of the hockey universe, but all they do is put unreasonable expectations on their players. I mean, they practically drove Phil out of town; Hell, they retained half his salary to be rid of him, because they expected him to be a leader, a captain, and that's just not Phil. The Pens acquire him and just let him do his thing, instead of forcing him into the role they intended for him, and voila, a Stanley Cup and what should've been a Conn Smythe-winning performance. So who's really the problem? Phil? Or Toronto?

People who make the NHL on the other hand are on a completely different level, might as well be from another planet compared to normal people in terms of hockey skill. You still need much better than baseball athleticism but the extra weight can be useful if your body fat% is low enough

It's a nice reaction from the crowd, but nothing like what they gave Flower. Which honestly confuses me because for his four years there, Kessel never had the fans turn on him, whereas fans were ready to run Flower out of town after his playoff struggles in the years following the 2009 Cup. Not only that, but Kessel was instrumental for the 2016 & 2017 Cups - and really should've been the 2016 Conn Smythe - whereas Flower was largely absent in 2016, and benched in the 2017 conference finals. Don't get me wrong - I've always had Flower's back - but the difference in crowd reaction here is perplexing. No Phil Kessel, no back-to-back Cups.

I have to agree that Phil needed a change of scenery. Phil - in a lot of ways - was like a poor man's version of Ovechkin: an absolutely lethal one-trick pony that didn't want to do anything other than his one trick. It wasn't until Ovechkin finally committed to defensive play that the Caps were able to get over the hump, and for whatever reason, he's gone back to his old ways. The Pens simply didn't have a strong defensive LW & D pairing to cover for BOTH Malkin & Phil's defensive liabilities and it came down to one of them having to go. That was never going to be Malkin.
