      Miss this guy on the Leafs. Only guy to consistently put up points. Classless Toronto media lighting a fire under his ass only to drive him out of town. I'm glad he won the cup, and go figure, the very next season after being traded.

      Exactly. Organization is just a cesspool. Socially awkward doesn't equal a coach killer or a quitter. Joke fans and media needed a scapegoat, and he was the convenient target.

      And we we're trying to build a team around him and you don't build around players like Phil.

    • @seanmclellan7094
      @seanmclellan7094 8 років тому +10

      That's a joke. If you actually believe management did a reasonable attempt at building a team around him you're an idiot. Who did they bring in that was close to his talent level? Noteables include: Lupul, Phaneuf, and JVR. Over the course of 6 years? Is that acceptable to you? Because other than JVR, none of those players would be first pairing or first line players yet they were the best the Leafs had to offer in those 6 years. That's a pathetic attempt at building around any player let alone Kessel.

      It was definitely a fun roster and those guys seemed to love playing together. The early 90s Pen' s roster will always be the best in regards to pure talent. It might be one of the top 3 teams ever constructed with Ron Francis, Stevens, Jagr, Lemieux, Joe Mullen, Straka, Murphy, Doug Brown, Coffey, Samuelson, and Tocchet.

      From 2015-2018 I used to have hockey debates with the doormen at my old apartment building & I said this Penguins team was the best team I'd ever seen in NHL history.
      But even this Pens roster would have issues against the 2022 Avalanche roster.

      So - did you tell the shitty Toronto media to shut their yaps? Of course Pens fans are going to make fun of ya. Toronto paid a good bit of Kessel's salary while he went on to become the leading scorer in teh playoffs.
      So management must have been happy to get rid of the fat hotdog man as well. And we all know the best way to build a team is to get rid of the best player on it.
      Thanks though, we kinda like the guy. Maybe you can see the cup when he brings it to Toronto.

    Pittsburgh never had problems in regular season but always had problems in play-offs and they couldn´t pick better player for the elimination fights. Kessel is Play-off beast even he had no many in his career. His stats in Play-offs are great (23 goals and 20 assists = 43 points out of 46 games)

      Quit living in the past, kiddo. Babcock, Shanahan and Lamoriello know how to treat their players. The days of Ballard, Burke, Wilson, Ferguson, Lieweke and Nonis are long gone. Unless you like living in the past. That's cool, too.

    Not sure why anyone was surprised with his performance. He had a history of elevating his play when playoff time came around. He did it in Boston. He did it in Toronto. And as this video suggests, he did it in Pittsburgh.
    Also, he was robbed of the Conn Smythe. He was better than Crosby for at least most of the playoffs.

    Way to take clips out of context to make it seem like Phil hated his time in Toronto. 0:41 he was talking about the Toronto media ripping on Dion Phaneuf for the Leafs failing.

      You miss him but you're glad he's gone? Is it because toronto sucks?

    • @davidmccalla6799
      @davidmccalla6799 8 років тому +3

      Musicrecords10 No it's because Toronto was a shit ass team in his time here and we needed to finally go on a full rebuild. Plus we we're building around Phil and you don't build around players like Phil. It worked out in the end since we got Matthews now and he might end up being a better player then him when it's all said and done. Kessel was pretty much a great player at a wrong time.

    You have to realize that many fans are idiots. He was his own person and more introverted and individualistic. Some people can't stand that. Some fans always blame their best players if the team loses. I remember the trade Sundin crap early in his career. Phil was nothing but first class here in Toronto. A gifted scorer who can generate offense by himself. I am happy for Phil, he put up with so much nonsense here.

    Stop saying that leafs should be sad that he did so good. We all know that he was our best player. It's just that he wasn't a player that would fit the team. I'm happy he's doing well in pens
