    Next time you start to lose grip with an open diff vehicle like you did in this video, try staying on the gas and then use your left foot and push on the brake.
    This will put resistance on the wheel in the air spinning and apply some torque to the wheel that has the grip. This is an old school version of traction control and it does work on occasions.

    • @joshm9003
      @joshm9003 3 роки тому +1

      Tires wouldn't have mattered as much as a locking diff. Once a wheel lifts on open differentials all the power goes to the wheel with least resistance such as the wheel in the air. The knobby tire would still be spinning in the air getting no traction to it since these trucks lack suspension articulation making the back end work harder than it should.

      That's not always true. A proper low range transfer case, great suspension articulation, and clearance help a lot. The f150 is a boat anchor on the trail because of its size and weight. The Tacoma is the opposite way more nimble and has a greater low range gear set. Not hating just stating the facts on this. That's why an f150 would be better at towing than the Tacoma would.

    Like how they didn't put such a huge tire on the Tacoma to where it would overwhelm the small engine. At the same time all that money spent on fancy bumpers, that rear flapper camper, wrap, etc could have been put to front and rear diff lockers. Made that truck a real billy goat with the lockers.
    Also I wish Toyota still made small trucks like this 1995-2004 Tacoma. Yes this reg cab/medium box/4wd truck is a beast off road, but I owned a 2wd reg cab/medium box and loved that truck. It sat so low that my short 5'6" self could reach into the bed from the side. Something my 1993, 1988, and 1985 2wd pickups were also awesome at, that bed was so low it was easy to load/unload.

Take it to a dealer and for an hour of 'power train diagnostic' they can turn the cruise from 'off' to 'on' in the computer. All the needed parts are there expect the switches in the steering wheel. The dashboard already has the cruise control light in it and it will light up while in use. I did this in my old 2004 F150 XL. It was the best $150 modification I've ever done to a vehicle.

    For 33's and a 4 banger auto, you want 4.56 gears and throw in a cheap rear locker. The locker is a while your in Rome upgrade, so not needed, but while it is no extra labor to install might as well. Love the Toygoata :) (FYI: Toyotas are expensive AF after Corona not cheap projects anymore lol.)

    for off-road defiantly take a look at adding an e-locker to the F-150. there are several options online, most cost less than $900 in parts but labor will depend where you take it.

    That F150 is actually the truck I'd prefer. The drivetrain is bulletproof, can tow more, carry more gear and is cheaper. A lot of that terrain could have been conquered with a minimal amount of momentum. You can't go off-road with awful tires, open diffs and an empty truck bed, creeping along and expect to go far. Throw some decent tires on it, 400lbs in the bed, and a limited slip diff or rear locker and I think it would go everywhere the Toyota did. They are both ifs. Put half that 15k in the f150 and it would spank the yota

    I am a huge Toyota fan! I hope Toyota NORTH AMERICA watches this video and has their epiphany and offers Toyota trucks with optional true off road tires. I had to buy steel rims and get Durtracs for my Tundra TRD OFF ROAD. The Michelins it came with are great for hiway and good gravel roads but when snow and mud is to be encountered, nothing beats Duratracs or some equivalent off road tire. How hard can it be to offer tires right from the dealer that make the off roader an off roader?

  • @Nickwillfixit
    @Nickwillfixit 3 роки тому

    Noticed a lot of times a little more speed and no drama there is a time to use momentum and not softly softly, pretty sure none of those obstacles would have stopped me, and a few in my Nismo Duke and using a slightly route.

    Spartan locker, good AT's, that F150 will go just about anywhere it'll fit. Mine sure did. Never gave me a major problem either.

    Idk man, Baby Yoda especially with that retro wrap looks sick, but for about the same/similar price, you're already approaching 1rst gen SVT Raptor territory. The OTHER F150.

    I’m not 100% sure but I don’t think the older f-150’s ever came with a locker, a locker and a set of tires and that thing would have pulled right through. My 2005 Silverado has a g80 and it helps a lot. I didn’t like the auto locker at first in my Chevy but I realized most of the time it has engaged before I would have had time to engage it myself.

    You guys should remove the front sway bar on the Tacoma if you haven't already. I have almost the exact same truck and it made a big difference having the extra articulation up front. The on-road handling isn't noticeably different either.

      It's a weird thing that happens whenever you get into or own a Toyota, you start making excuses for it.
      Complaint: 4Runner and Tacoma have terrible drivetrains.
      Toyota apologist excuse: but they're reliable!
      Complaint: Tundra/Sequoia/4Runner are old as dirt and incredibly behind the competition.
      Toyota apologist excuse: simple = reliable, less to go wrong. (Doesn't mention that Toyota has modern tech throughout its passenger car/crossover lineup with no problems).

    As long as they’re spending that kind of money on that truck I think an air compressor and at least a rear locker is a no brainer. They should have held out for a 1st gen TRD off road with the OEM locker. Other than that it looks cool and is capable but without that locker it leans a little bit towards the mall crawler side. A locker would bring it up another level.

    Seems like a rebuilt lsd or a diff lock, KO2s and a cheap 2 in lift solves all of the Ford problems for maybe $2.5k. Add alum skid plates for another $500. You have your cheap FX4.
