I should admit that I find your interpretation the most musical out of everyone I've heard. Everyone kind of just rushes through the piece while you put a lot of soul and thought into your sound. Thank you!
@@benjaminloriot3733 I think his is more technically impressive, but I think it's too fast, and that makes it difficult for me to follow the story beats. The voice of the father, son, and Erl King just gets lost.
My favorite interpretation of Der Erlkönig! I can clearly hear the different voices of the characters. I can feel panic growing in the father's voice as the story goes on, and I absolutely love the way you play the Erl King. First time he speaks, his voice is uncannily similar to the boy's, except full of disonance, like he's doing a poor immitation of someone familiar to the boy. The second time, the Erl King tries even harder to lure the son away from his father, using a melodic and playful voice, like a stranger offering candy. The third time he speaks is the most beautiful, seductive even, like the song of a Siren. Finally the Erl king catches the boy and attacks! The boy cries out and the father is horrified. The father can see the clearing in the trees, it's close, he makes a mad rush and clears the forrest, they escaped the Erl king! .... but the boy..... is dead.
So much to like here. Respecting Schubert's original tempo and not treating it like a speed contest; super clear voicing and dynamic choices that reflect the underlying lyrics; keeping the hoofbeats consistent throughout, including in the notorious double-staffed harmonics section; not abusing ritardandi and rubato to smooth over technical challenges; and importantly to me, coming the closest out of anyone to obeying Schubert's intentions in the tremolo section by not slowing down to a crawl like many violinists seemed inclined to do, taking the (what I consider to be dubious) "tranquilissimo" marking at face value. I'd prefer even less of a tempo differential but most people, including Hahn, Leong, Ning, Barati, Frang, Lee, Repin, Kremer and a litany of other huge names, do far worse, often sounding as if they're interpreting it in double-time, or even slower still. Brava.
Wow I’m at a lost of words! I love your interpretation of this everyone else (besides Hillary Hahn) plays this at an extremely fast tempo which takes away from the musical integrity of the piece. You give every note the attention it deserves. Great performance Irene and I hope to see more of you in the future :) Merci!
Beautiful performance of this very demanding work. The dynamics were perfectly judged, the melodic line always clear, the tempo just right. Bravo Ms. Duval!!!
@ I noticed that there are very few painted renditions of the story this music is paired with. I had never even heard of the story until I decided to look up a bit of the history on this wonderful piece you've played. I found the music and the story both to be compelling enough to create a painting that to some significant degree follows the poem. I am sorry if I made it seem as if I was going to paint you! Though you are definitely worthy of it.

@@varka181 Oh, that's a wonderful idea! Yes, this story has so much in it to be expressed - so dramatic and moving. You really didn't make it seem like that so no worries!! And Erlkönig is a far better subject than myself. Good luck with it!!
Hard to say because it pushes a few technical skills to the edge, but a lot a skills are not needed for this piece. So it depends on what your personal abilities are. For example if you have kind of a big hand and you are used to doing big intervals, and have a good finger independance, this will be a lot easier to sight read. The bowing is not that hard - for someone who has the level to begin trying this piece. The harmonics + accompaniment part is just purely insane for anybody though, I guess. Also, vibrate on the melody is just completely sick. But I think you don't have to be a violin god to make something not too ridiculous from that piece
La meilleure version de "Der Erlkönig" en violon que j'ai vu.

Thank you so much !!
I fully agree. Besides that the video shows admirably the intensity of the playing, both technically and expressively. Really amazing, and moving.
Hilary hahn rushes the piece for you ?
Beautiful interpretation though
Ning feng do a version very very dramatic and beautifull

Beautiful music. Wish there was more like this! Keep on doing this.

Could just say Elf King.

So musical!!! Beautiful and well done!!!
Awesome!
That is a beautiful violin. :-)
...I just discovered you today after the "Wigmore" piano trio concerto. A totally unique talent/violinist/artist, male or female.
Thanks so much!
@ You're welcome!
fantastic playing !
Best interpretation next to hilary hahn!! maybe a bit more!
Thank you so much !! :))
Hilary Hahn is not human...
When your pianist calls in sick so you have to do the whole thing yourself
Do you give zoom lessons? Wow amazing Irene! You are right up next to Hahn on this. Are you a professional soloist?
zéér goed !
Genius! Thanks for posting!
GSUS H CHRIST, THAT WAS AMAZING
Very good performance!!
Violin looks very beautiful, who is maker?
:) the violin is a François-Louis Pique
one of the most difficult pieces in the violin-reportoire i guess.
Does anybody know around what violin rcm level would this be?
It is out of the conservatory level wise. You could call it "a level far above the levels"
But if you're still looking for a number I'd say level 25 or upwards
It's more of a challenge rating than a level, and a CR that high doesn't really mean anything specific other than "bloody near impossible."

hilary hahn level, better than most other performers
clap clap clap.
