We rented a house for 11 years and when it came time to move out we knew that we weren't going to get our security deposit back due to damages that were caused by my son and some of his friends. Our landlord never gave us an itemized list of what repairs needed to be made and how much each repair cost and I could have taken him to court for that but I knew that the damages were more than our security deposit and if I had taken my landlord to court then he most likely would have countersued for additional damages.
Wow, I would never knowingly leave such damage - just be use you lived there 11 years doesn’t make it ok to leave damage behind. That’s not normal wear and tear. Take pride in where you live.
I clean houses and it AMAZES me how dirty people are, some don't even own toilet brushes n I'm like ummmmmm u don't ever need to clean it, or they will keep cooking over n over on a dirty stove bcuz they wait until their next cleaning

Turned out the ''tenant was subletting to lots of non Londoners [shall we say], all left our newly decorated house in the worst state ever, dirty footprints and hair oils on walls, new carpets so dirty, they had to be changed, kitchen burned, ceiling caved in after not using a shower curtain and more. Then the 'tenant' stopped paying rent to us and kept it all for himself, declaring it was his house! Needless to say the police sorted him out, we sold the house and got not much back, and vowed to never ever be landlords again.

I understand what the plaintiff was saying. It wasn't that he was expecting the Landlord to stay while the cleaners cleaned. He wanted the Landlord to be there to point out all the areas that he thought needed attention so that the place could be cleaned to his liking. None the less, he should have done a thorough inspection of the place when their furniture was out and have the cleaning done, with or without the Landlord present. Plaintiff messed up. Hopefully he learns to take the necessary precautions next time round 🙂

Both landlords and renters should take pictures of how a place looks when it is put up for rent or moved into and how its condition when the renter leaves and the landlord should takes pictures of all damages caused by the renter.
Word to the wise, even if you can afford it, just pack yourself. My husband is in the army and every single time the army has moved us (aka hired a company) we have ended up with a ton of stuff broken or damaged somehow. The most we've ever broken or damaged doing it ourselves was 2 picture frames and box of glass dishes I intended to donate that ended up in the truck and even those were mostly intact minus the plates on the top and bottom. Always move yourself!
You had a different experience than I did. I packed my own things. Multiple times the moving company asked me to pay them to pack, to keep things safe. Even on the day they picked my stuff up they asked. They the crew proceeded to throw table, chairs and other furniture in top of the boxes. Many of my boxes were crushed when I got my stuff.

As a child, I only moved once, and I was probably like 5 years old, so I don’t really remember it, and my parent still own the home that I grew up in. Since then, I’ve moved many times, but always with the military, so our things are *always* packed for us. As for packing remotes, smoke detectors, etc., the packers will most DEFINITELY pack whatever you leave out if you’re not careful, especially overseas, where they will literally wrap and pack your garbage can full of garbage. 😂 We’re always advised to place the things that we don’t want packed into a locked room, or out in a vehicle.
