God, if the date is correct, Trent is 25-26 here. That’s amazing. He’s always so been mature, thoughtful and well-spoken. Can you imagine even the most mature 26-year-old artist coming across like this, these days?
Rich's face at 5:48 when Trent says it's pretty much a one-man show and the camera slowly zooms in and cuts him out of frame... And then Trent says maybe in a couple of albums he'll "find people that are really worthy of collaboration!" No wonder Rich left.

[ CJ SAWYER ] Hello, the dude to te left is Richard Patrick, a former and touring guitarist for Nine Inch Nails for two and half years, and he can be seen in the music videos for "Down In It," "Head Like A Hole," "Wish," and "Gave Up." His only recorded contribution-a droning guitar sound-can be heard at the end of "Sanctified" on Pretty Hate Machine.
He quit not long after so he was probably thinking the same thing lol (Also, Vrenna was on a break from the band at that point so Rich was the only other original member).
Trent is a really amazing artist, he is a genius at what he does, we need more talented ppl to bring down the big pharma and the establishment holding us back from true liberation of our soul's music touches on the sublime and perfection of the artist, Rise Up! we can change this horrid world we live in, let nothing hold us back creating music is our weapon against the fascist world we inhabit for now!
There could have been an influence in their style and sound at one point, Down In It sounds more like a Pop Will Eat Itself ripoff than a Skinny Puppy ripoff if you ask me.
@ That's what Trent said in 1994, yeah, but the two songs aren't sonically so close there's not room for any other influence. Especially in early 90s interviews, Trent tends to overemphasise references with industrial cred (Skinny Puppy, Ministry) while downplaying ones no longer seen as cool (e.g. Depeche Mode, Gary Numan, Bowie, all of which he did say later were hugely influential). That said, I was wrong to say PWEI were definitely an influence; I'd mistakenly thought they were on Wax Trax in the US, which Trent said he listened to religiously, but they were actually on Rough Trade. It's probable he never heard Box Frenzy before recording Down In It and any similarities are just due to the shared influence from hip-hop sampling culture. (FWIW on the UK scene, Trent also said he hated Manchester bands and house music).
Funny how way back then Trent was saying its not like you are up there competing with BON JOVI,,,,NINE INCH NAILS EVEN BACK THEN WAS WAY BETTER BON JOVI. LOL!
Richard spoke some truly powerful words here, wouldn't have been the same without him
he looks so innocent here yet he had a primal scream in him. Great talent.
12:03 "Yeah." - Richard Patrick, 1991.
He’s so so incredibly handsome even with sunglasses on. Even at 57 now has aged like fine wine.
The Pet Shop Boys are looking sharp
🤣
Bruhh

Richard acts like I would after having a joint and realizing too late that my buddy is being interviewed and is too late for me to get out of frame
They both look like Trent Reznor
The Nine Inch Twins
Trent forced Richard and Chris to start looking like him so he could fulfill his fantasy of fucking his clone.

Nice to see the rest of the interview. The other version was all choppy and weird.
