LOST HUMMINGBIRD FOUND! The Vilcabamba Inca Exists!

- The Vilcabamba Inca was considered to be a lost bird. John Weske described a specimen he procured in the 1960's and no other physical or photographic evidence has been presented since. We took the challenge and briefly were able to photograph and video this subspecies of the Collared Inca. In three days of searching the area, we were able to spend about ten seconds with this very shy and rare hummingbird feeding on flowers.

Super exciting,, I am happy for you!! When I saw Vilcabamba I naturally assumed you were in Ecuador. It seems like all of these counties have towns of the same names!

Awesome find and congrats 👏🏻👏🏻 At what approximate elevation is this? From the interesting drone video, the landscape looks bleak and drab, until you see the gorgeous flowers that attract those hummingbirds and Voila!!
Ca. 1600 Meter
