Just been on Nebraska's fan group for 2 years, so listening to Osborne is exciting. Left Alabama after following for 40 years looking for a classy school that Alabama has lost in the 15 years. Nebraska fit the bill and icing on the cake with rhule. Character over championship. A championship ring in life won't get you as far as character will.
Amen, Sabin is a great coach but he’s never going to be a Tom Osborn, Bobby Bowden, or a Joe Paterno… but I hope I live long enough to see Matt Rhule be mentioned with those men, with no exaggeration or reservation. Good Luck Coach Matt. ❤
@nohemitoobad Alabama started 15 years ago putting players on the team with aggressive mentality, but it brought problems to the team and problems on the field. Saban lost control of the team 3 years ago, and last year, it showed. So many things on the field happened that showed they had lost their classiness. This has become southern teams mo, and I admit it concerns me when rhule gets players from this area. I don't want that infection to get into the nebraska team. Watching Nebraska play, they are classy and play with character that the southern teams have lost. That's what drew me to them.
That was superb. Those are some fine people. A funny story about Coach Osborne. He came to San Diego one year the Huskers were playing here in the Holiday Bowl. He spoke at an event and I was given the huge honor of being Coach and Nancy's transportation to/from his hotel and the speaking engagement. The event was at a very high end multi-million dollar estate and when we got to the driveway with attendant, there was a barrier that needed to be moved. Coach said, "I'll jump out and move the barrier!" I had this big smile on my face and said, "No way Coach - you stay right here!" Then I asked the attendant to move the barrier. No surprise, right! Coach Osborne is so genuine and such a nice guy - exactly as you have seen him at all times. Truly a down-to-earth Nebraskan. It was a highlight of my life to have met him and I can't begin to understand what it must have been like to have been coached by him. Thanks Coach for all that you have done.
I'm not drinking the Kool-Aid. That takes too long. I'm taking it intravenously! I met Coach Osborne once in about 1988. I was so nervous I could barely talk.
".....and Good Luck Matt......" Coach Tom getting the last word in and it's passing good thoughts and words to the new coach. Class act sir. And yes, Good Luck Matt! The Sea of Red is with you sir!
I live in Texas now from Philadelphia, I am using This Talk to my Sales Team in Investments. This is a life skills talk, every bit as much as it is a football talk.
So impressed with Trev for doing this. Equally impressed with Coach Rhule in his ability to show the proper amount of reverence to Coach Osborne, NU’s past & tradition, while also laying out his vision for the future. There’s truly a Unity of purpose from top on down, a blend of tradition & future, that we haven’t seen here in a long time. Now let’s go win some ball games…GBR!
Coach O more relevant than ever. Everything's so understated. My brother was a walk on who earned a scholarship later, but he told me Coach knew your whole family's names, unbelievably sharp.
Only half way through and this is alredy gold, no wonder Trev thought Rhule was the right fit, look at how many similarities exist between Rhule and Osborne it's honestly striking.. Being physical, the weather aspect, process, innovation, point systems, unity, etc.. They share the same mindset! You can tell Osborne has a lot of respect for Rhule already and I think he believes he can take the program in the right direction, I'm chugging the Kool aid.
LOL Trev was responsible for slicky ricky getting his as* handed to him early and costing Neb a lot of money by not waiting a couple of more games with Frost.
Thank you Trev for putting this together. This was pure genius. I can listen to Coach Osborne all day long, he still has the juice for me. It sounded like Coach Osborne gave Coach Rhule his blessing. That had to feel good for Coach Rhule. GBR
I talked to Tom on the phone in a call in show on Sports Byline. Right before our Championship game...I believe it was the Miami game. Asked him a question and actually gave him my take..hahaha was a lot younger and a lot more cocky, but what a class act he was. I can actually say for a couple minutes before the big game I got to speak to the legend. Certainly a bucket list check. Thanks Coach for all those great years and thanks Sports Byline..a great show in its own right.
People don't realize how smart Coach Osborne is! I remember playing for him and he had this nagging ability to be able to predict how the game would go or how a play would work against certain defenses. All we had to do is execute our assignment and behold he was correct. If it didn't work, then it was because one or a few of us missed our assignment. God Bless you, Coach! Coach was a father to all of us! Love you, Coach!
That was special!! Really enjoyed it!! Hard honest work is what I most respect about Nebraska Football, the fans & Tom Osborne. Good luck Coach Rhule. Blessings on you, your family & coaching staff! Thankful to have you all on board!! GBR!!
What a great interview. I really like the message that I am hearing from Coach Rhule. I am optimistic for the first time in a while about the direction.
Wow! I used to teach leadership classes for the company I work for, and this video should be shown to all future and current leaders in their respective profession. Much respect to Coach Osborne, Trev, and Coach Rhule! GO BIG RED!
What a great interchange between two “real” men. I believe there are a lot of similarities and I wish Matt success. Foremost, as a leader and example to young men. They will go into life with a great foundation.
This discussion is so authentic and heart warming. I miss hearing and seeing T.O. such a great man. These stories and direction are what we have missed at NU for so long. I really hope this starts us on the right road, sure seems like it! GBR.
We sometimes forget that Coach Osborne was successful because he was willing to learn, adapt and innovative. He didn't stay still. He didn't live in the past. He certainly kept aspects of the game and process that worked while looking for ways to overcome roadblocks.
This was a great idea. Loved hearing Dr. Tom talk about the formation of the unity council and how that brought about a culture where the team kept each other in line.
When the time comes the entire College Football World will know that the humility of this man we all know as simply "Coach" goes far FAR beyond what's publicly known and written about. The kindness of "Coach" knew no bounds. His contributions to the game of College Football will be felt and still yet to be revealed will cement his name as one of a very few of the Greatest of All Time. We were so very lucky to have him because he TRULY represents all that is good about Nebraska.
@@IRONHORSE427RACING Absolutely. He cared so deeply about his players and was often the only father figure many of them had really ever known. I feel like however much credit he's given for everything he's done, it's not enough.
Man if everyone from Nebraska had Tom Osborne’s mentality, everyone will cement their legacy as a young athlete. Volleyball’s ladies already have a great team. But 80,000 fans in memorial station watching Nebraska win championship will be an amazing story.
Matt has two things out previous coaches maybe didn’t have both of, both a presence with how he conducts himself and a sense of humility that shines through in his interactions. Pleased he is our coach now and hopeful for the future of the program I love so much, in Nebraska winning isn’t enough, and if that’s been a downfall then I can accept it, in Nebraska you need to win the right way. You need to go through the process and you need to stay present in the moment. Every day. It’s something I try to take from coach O and I think it’s obvious from this interview coach MR is about it as well. It’s easy to be good, but it’s damn hard to be great and being great means being great all the time. GBR!

Great video, thank you for this! Coach Osborne seemed to latch onto what Rhule said about being a good listener nowadays. Tom brought it up a couple times afterwards, just thought that was interesting lol. GBR ☠️

Have to make a comment, with Coach Rhule at about 4:40 saying that the receivers cut-blocked DBs on our downfield blocks in the old days (late 1970’s)…nope, we smashed ‘em in the face play after play after play! I guess some of the smaller wingbacks might have cut-blocked-but not the TEs and WRs.
