Hey everyone, I appreciated Coach Osborne’s willingness to be open/honest with his answers while still being respectful. He didn’t duck anything I asked him 💪
On a side/personal note, Coach Osborne was the only person I’ve ever interviewed who hadn’t thrown the bones at the end of the show…Until now! #TTB ☠️☠️
Just a heads up that this interview was recorded literally right before the recent conference expansions happened.

I was an usher in a wedding ceremony at Sheldon art gallery back around 2012... I took Nancy's arm and walked her and Tom down to their seats. Coach Osborne was so polite and in his classic understated tone just said "thank you, sir" to me, and sat down.
As you stated, I dig his capability of being honest and respectful. The understated-ness of his personality is equally endearing and representative of what I think Nebraskans aspire to be and be viewed as; consistent, strong, hard-working, self confident..... yet also self-reflective and non-bragging.
Anyways, he is a solid man and one hell of a football coach!
Keep up the good show, Adam.

He will go down in History as one of the (in my opinion thee best) Coaches in College Football PERIOD.
I'M however very biased and not ashamed to admit it. I grew up in Hastings and my Grandmother and his Mother were on the same Church Circle. We know the Osborne Family on a very personal level and can say there is not a finer man anywhere on the face of the planet.

      * in all Saban's NCs at Bama, he has never beaten an AUB team that finished with at least 9 wins.

Always pleased with Your efforts and your experience and knowledge with Husker Football! We've all been spoiled with Coach Osborne's ability to get the best out of his team's and I must admit we all were hoping for success under Coach Frost (I know I was) but sometimes thing's from prior coaching staff's don't work because they have more to do they even the Fan's see or know about. Any former Football player knows it's hard to win these day's because there's so many more good talent around the country. But I wish Coach Frost my Best(will always support a Former Cornhusker and more importantly a former National Champion) and I hope he gets an opportunity to Coach at a high level again because he is a quality coach regardless of his record with our Beloved Huskers!! And what some people don't understand is the hardest job is coaching for your home school because the expectations are so high that very few can actually accomplish it! I believe in Nebraska as a state and a people and Coach Osborne got alot of Husker Fan's spoiled with Winning National Title's but Look how many Year's it took Coach Osborne to final win what he so deserved!!! And finally I believe in Coach Rhule and I pray for the sake Of Cornhuskerland, He get a chance to win (like we hope for) and has the opportunity to stick around because turning over coaches every few Year's is almost A Death Sentence because No Great Coach will want a job that if you don't reach ridiculous expectations then you'll be fired! Noone wants "Fired" behind their good name!!! Go Big Red and Good Luck Huskers this Football season

Great interview with the #1 Husker legend, Glory to God! I don't remember the 80-83 teams as I was too young but hearing and remembering how we always seemed to have to play Miami or Florida State or Florida in their home state or even home stadium in sports was an unfair advantage and should have never be allowed to happen. The NFL does a neutral Championship site for good reason and the college Championship and bowl games should never have an advantage to 1 team over the other. Watching the Huskers from the early 80's through the 90's was an honor and a privilege that came from growing up in Nebraska with Husker power running through my veins. I grew up in Nebraska and lived in Florida and played college football in different weather and I know the effect on the body especially when you have past injuries.
You seemed to have completely missed the point and are referencing things that don't apply, bravo 👏
Weather affects games and players, home field has a proven advantage when it comes to crowd effect on winning percentage. Crowd can make it hard for opposing team to hear play count and so on.
I do remember spanking Miami and Florida both in Florida for 2 of our 3 National Championships in the 90s, how do you like them apples?
My point, since it went over your head, was that in a bowl game or national championship, neither team should have home field advantage or state advantage . A team from Cali shouldn't have to fly to Florida to play a Florida team in their home stadium or state. It should be a neutral site always. Weather is something players have to overcome and Nebraska did and our trophy case proves it. Thanks for playin

I once heard him say his biggest regret about the loss to Florida State in the 1994 Orange Bowl was not getting the team flu shots before the game because a lot of players came down with the flu and were throwing up even right before and/or during the game. However, can you tell him the flu shot does not protect against the stomach flu, it's only the respiratory flu it prevents, and even then with only 40 to 60 percent success?

There wasn’t just one thing. I believe this really started when all of us were set to get back to the glory days, and then the Akron game got canceled for lightning. Then, having been so prepared it threw off everything. The next game we saw the new QB do what we thought he would do, destroy, and then an injury. Then we were sitting ducks all of a sudden already shook, every plan was thrown off. Then we lost. And then lost again. Lost some more. Then all of us started to lose faith and hope. The excitement wore off quick. We believed were right back where we were. Shooting blanks hoping they’d stick like every other season. Then COVID hit. Then we only played a few games that season. At first we were on. Then off. Then we got back on. But we still lost. We lost to lesser teams, with lesser reputation, with lesser brands. Plus we were begging for wins. Begging and begging and begging. There was no recovery. The dream scenarios were lost, and then we all waited it out and eventually we got what we wanted. Another fired coach. Our stadium was filled with 90,000 doubts for 4 hours every game, every game. Every stadium we went to was full of confidence and the teams also showed it. We played soft, in the mind, the game is 90% mental. I bet our guys could compete speed per speed matching any position in the NCAA. I bet we could lift as much as any Alabama player. We could run as fast. Even faster, player for player, it’s all mental. There were barriers that certain coaches can work their players through, Tom is one, he’s a psychologist. Saban is another he’s a sport psychologist and in sports administration, I think chip Kelly. Look at any of theee other great coaches and Google their college degrees. They’re using them. Frost has a finance type degree. Pelini had a business administration degree, a leader role, education psych masters for Rhule, urban Meyer psychology degree, great coaches use their education to help the younger generation. Frost probably never would be able to break down what’s wrong with their player and then push them past themselves.

What went wrong with Frost, boils down to lack of head coach intuition, not experience.
He went for it when it made no sense. He played into a pass heavy mindset and ignores building up the foundation of the line on both sides of the ball. He got caught in off the field issues and held past long grudges. He valued skill players too much and kept bad coaches, which undermined his ability to be a successful head coach.

The main reason Frost failed? Look no further than his Defensive Coordinator, Eric Chinander. You can't win games when your defense is giving up an average of 30 points a game.
Has anyone ever checked if Iowa graduate Eric Chinander was on the Iowa payroll during his 4+ years at Nebraska? 😄

    • @krunkformula

Chinander didn't fumble the ball with the chance to win against a top 5 Michigan team. Not to say Chinander was good but he is not the only person to blame. Offense let the defense down plenty of times during the Frost era as well. Offense, defense, special teams and clock management all had failures that lost us games

Dave Rimington the Lombardi and Outland Trophy winner that year, whose name is used to honor the best Center in America now, was called for 3 holding calls and 2 offsides and he was the Center! How can a center be offsides? The whole game was poor officiating! So, we should have 4 more National Championships which seem the powers that be made sure Nebraska lost!

    • @mas5867

AI says: In American football, a center can be called for an offsides penalty if they move before the snap and make contact with a defensive player or if they move the ball before the snap. Offsides is a penalty that occurs when a player is on the wrong side of the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped. This can happen to any player on the field, including the center.
